Whoa...this Ty thing sounds crazy. I think what you should do is sit down with him and have a discussion about it, without letting it turn into an argument or something bad because that probably won't help things (this is something I'm learning the (very) hard way with Matt). I think that he needs to give some serious consideration to whether or not he is willing to throw the life he has now away for something that has a 99% chance of not working out - this stuff happens all the time and very few singers/groups actually make it big and become rich and famous and all of that. If it doesn't work out, what will he have to fall back on? And what does he really know about what it will be like, and the people that are trying to persuade him to move to Chicago? I mean, I don't know the details of the situation but I think it sounds a little bit sketchy - how would four guys halfway across the country hear of him? I think he needs to sit down and realize that he's not just going to go off and have this nice, easy life singing for a living. I'm not questioning that he has talent or anything, but even people who are really good don't always make it, and they end up screwing up the next ten years of their life because they dropped everything to run off and try to make a living in music. I think that if he is really set on going, there isn't a whole lot that you can do but step back and try to be supportive even if you hate doing it and are against it because not being supportive about it might make him more determined to go. It seems to me that he's just rushing into this without a real sense of how things would be with these guys - he might end up hating it, for all he knows. I think that you need to let him know that you're concerned about him going off like this, with what (to me) seems like not a lot of time in between to think about the decision or even come up with something to fall back on. I could say that everything would work out and that it could work as a long-distance relationship, but you would know that it was a lie because it probably wouldn't work out in a way where you would both be happy. It seems like he is asking you to put your life on hold, in a sense, so that he can follow a whim to move out to Chicago, which is unfair of him to do, because while he's off in Chicago doing whatever, you'd be waiting around for him to call or for him to fly out and see you and you would be unhappy. If he does go and refuses to even consider what would happen if it didn't work out or waiting to find out a little more about the situation, I would (if I were you) make it clear that you aren't going to just sit around and wait for him to make time for you in this life in Chicago because, like I said before, it's unfair. I would try not to get into an argument about it, but tell him that as much as you wish that it would work out so that you both end up happy, the likelihood of that actually happening is really, really slim, and that you're not going to compromise your feelings by agreeing to seeing him maybe once every two weeks or whatever (I don't know how often he would be able to see you by flying from Chicago, because I can't imagine that he'd be able to afford doing that - it gets expensive). It would be torture to finally see him and find out that he's having the time of his life in Chicago while you were missing him. And I know that because I have been through the long distance thing and I promised myself I wouldn't let myself get involved in that again, because I'm not the type of person that wouldn't mind not being able to talk to or see my boyfriend when I want to. It's a tough situation because he's brought you into it by telling you about how it could work out and by asking your opinion and stuff, which, while it's what most people would expect boyfriends to do, it's only going to make it more difficult because in asking you your opinion it's sort of like asking you to decide for him, in a way. Not to the point where whatever you say is what's going to happen, but to a point where it will cause arguments if you tell him the truth and he doesn't like what he hears and feels that you're not believing in him/being supportive and all that. I think that you need to tell him that while you feel pretty strongly about it, it is ultimately going to be his decision no matter what your opinion is, and that if he really wants to go, he's going to have to accept that you may not be able to keep up your relationship - he can't have it both ways and this is one of those situations in life where he is going to have to decide what he feels is best for him - not necessarily what matters more, but what feels right, and I think it's one of those things where either way he is going to have to let go of some of his ambitions because it's just not the way his life is taking him. If I were him, I wouldn't dare give up everything because of this Chicago thing which, from the sound of your diary entry, doesn't seem like it's something he's been thinking about for a long time as something that could definitely be a possibility, but him suddenly getting this chance and jumping at it because it's a dream of his to have a music career and he doesn't want to think about not succeeding. Either way, it's going to be a hard situation to be in for you because of the fact that he really can't have it both ways, and I'm really sorry about it. I hope that some of this made sense and that it wasn't a bunch of confusing rambling. And, as always, I'm around if you want to talk, and I really hope that somehow this works out so that you are happy.

H-A-P-P-Y? maybe it would be okay to take a break if he wants to pursue the music thing for a while and see how it goes. secondly, i know from experience, that even if you have your heart set on making a long-distance relationship work, it is hard hard work and often ends in heartbreak. i read what you wrote and you seemed to weigh things out pretty well. you know it would be hard to do the long-distance thing, so why are you questioning it? whatever you guys decide, i want you to be happy! much love.

so this Ty situation seems to me to be pretty easy. and i know you know that. long distance realtionships barely ever work out. and especially with what he is trying to pursue. that is a job that is hard to do when he lives right next door to you. being in the spotlight and in a band, guys have girls all over them 24/7. i can tell you this from experience for i dated a boy in a band. and that's a hard thing to say "no" to. i am sure he loves you. and if he does then maybe this will work later down the road. but if he is going to move to chicago to live with these guys and pursue an active career in singing... i would say my goodbyes now. but only when you know for sure that he is getting into this group. that hasn't been exactly determined yet. but like i said you're young and have so much to experience and great things coming your way... i would hate to see it diminished, ruined, or not even happen because you were stuck in this relationship that wasn't doing anything for you while he is doing everything for himself. don't make things harder than they need to be. enjoy the life you have while you have it. put yourself first this time.

I’ve been reading your diary since before you were with Ty and honestly, I think he treats you badly, I don’t think he really respects your feelings from the things you say I am sometimes shocked by how oblivious and inconsiderate he can be. I’m sure he’s a good person and I’m not trying to bad mouth him but the fact that he has basically made solid plans to move a thousand miles away and hasn’t even really talked to you about it should be a red flag that something is wrong. I know you love him, he was your first in a lot of ways and you will always love him but you have to decide whether you are IN LOVE with him, whether you can handle a long distance relationship and if that’s really the best thing for both of you, and if you can’t go more than a few days without seeing him and feeling neglected think of how months of separation are going to be. No one can tell you what to do; I can just give you a different perspective. I hope it all works out because you are a really great person and deserve to have someone equally as great.

I'm going through the same thing with my boyfriend right now. I'm going to be moving to another town to go to an art school. But I don't think think that theres anyone for me out there in that town, sure theres a school, but not him. So I asked myself a few questions... i agree with you quite a bit, miss ali. i am personally a very straight girl, and i can't imagine having an abortion. however, i am glad to know that these two options exist in the world just in case a situation was to arise where it might be necessary to someone else that i love. i do not believe that it is ever right me to personally tell someone else that they can't do something so as long as it does not harm anyone else (i.e. murder, rape, etc.). Faith in God tells us not to judge. that, too, is in the Bible, and i think that a lot of people overlook that when they get worked up over controversial subjects.

take a comb and just keep going over the hickey. it might (well probably) hurt just a little, but it brings the blood to the surface and it'll go away some.

Have you ever tried putting a frozen spoon on a hickey? Or ice/something really cold? It helps - it's not as noticeable after you do it, but I think you have to hold the spoon/ice on for about twenty minutes. I forget how long I did, Matt gave me a hickey on my back while I was sitting in his lap once and my shirt didn't hide it so I made him hold his drink (full of ice) on it for a long time. I suppose if you haven't tried this before it's worth it to see if it helps. Good luck! :)

hmmm...I understand how you feel about Ty and his cousin. I'm sort of in the same situation as you right now, except I don't want to say anything again because I'll feel selfish for it. But at the same time I can't stand it when Matt calls me and all he talks about is what he did with his friends or ends up ignoring me because he's so absorbed in his video games. Now when he calls me it feels like he's only doing it because he's obligated to and he ends up talking for five minutes and then making an excuse to hang up so that he can go hang out with his friends. It sucks...I think you should talk to him, but without getting upset about it, and tell him that if he's going to call you then he should pay attention to you, and that if he would rather talk to his cousin then he just shouldn't call. Hopefully he'll get the message. Unfortunately, Matt hasn't yet because he's...a guy...and an oblivious one at that. But...I hope you feel better, anyway, and I hope things work out.

I think you should stay with Ty, because he loves you, and Greg, though he may be perfect, was caught between you and Crystal, and ultimately chose her - he had the chance to be with you and gave it up. Not to be a Negative Nancy, but I am fairly sure that your criminal records as a minor do not show up on background checks as an adult (unless they were tried as an adult) I do background checks at the bank and have only seen a minor offense pop up when its a minor I'm checking out. Try a heating pad for cramps- there are also these things on the market right now that are like mini heating pads that you stick on the inside of your pants. They really work for me. Ali, I thought the same thing about long distance relationships. I'm a physical touch person, I've always hated phones, I never thought a long-distance relationship could work out for me- I refused to get in one, ever... But, sometimes it happens (I mean, Nick'll be in Iraq soon), and we adapt to the circumstances. It is the hardest when it first begins (ie what you're feeling right now), but it really does get better. I understand completely (completely!) what you're saying about needing the person right there with you, but I guess I've learned that it wasn't all the way true (for me, at least). i just wanted to give you a slight piece of advice. i used to feel this way about someone in my family until i was unable to have them as part of my life. i thought that all the stuff we had to go through was inconvenient. looking back, i realized that i personally was being selfish. while this may not be the case for you, i want you to realize that this time with your grandmother--while maybe a hassle--is precious and limited. i would do anything to have this person back in my life, and i have to live with this lesson every single day of my life. and i was lucky to even have that time with that person. there are so many people who dont have that chance with their family (like me with my two biological grandfathers). so instead of seeing it as inconvenience, see the blessing behind it. this may be a trip you will always remember... let it be for the right reasons. love you.

Locks of love is a really, really amazing organization. The day after I graduated from high school I donated 22.5 inches of hair to them. It IS really scary, but it's really worth it, too. I think like this layout best. You shouldn't have gotten me started on this, I LOVE reading sci fi! Here are some more suggestions: "The Abyss" by Orson Scott Card, based on the movie but actually BETTER than the movie and I loved the movie. Plus if you don't have time to finish it you can always rent the DVD. I also am a huge fan of Anne McCaffrey, some of my favorite of her sci-fi being "Crystal Singer," "The Ship Who Sang," and "To Ride Pegasus." OK, I'll stop now :)
