hey bexx... no modeling. Im still gaining weight to look healthier. The c binge i had last year, had me at 106, now im 120... feel best at 125-130. A few more pounds to go. I know, totally backwards from normal chic psychosis. Im wayyyy better tho, and laughing and smiling with my pm. I gotta get a job, tho. Not sure if my looks are what photographers are looking for. I will keep it in mind, tho. Thanks. take it easy.

Hey Bexx - congratulations! I haven't really been at D'land much, sorry I've been missing out on your news. I've got a couple song ideas for the walk down the aisle - though you're right, it's so fucking hard to find appropriate ones in the indy/punk girl genre. How 'bout Gigantic by the Pixies, Eau d'Bedroom Dancing by Le Tigre, or Velvet Days by Kristin Hersh? None are typical wedding marches, but hey, I'm trying. Or you could go the classy route and play a Billie Holiday or Ella Fitzgerald song. Have an amazing wedding, you!

Yeah Australia has koalas, and you should probably know that they are pretty dangerous. my last entry didn't take me long to write up at all. it just flows from my soul. lots of times i don't really have a plan to write something specifically. the words kinda take over, and become me. writing notes back is fine with me, unless you have aim or aol. i just got aim not too long ago. so if you have that, we could add eachother. i will look up some of the gossip, or that band you asked me if i have heard of. okay? ok. :)
|

living with boys is ass. they won't do anything unless you specifically ask them three times and/or write it down. you just have to get over the mom feeling, and make him a list of things to do. that what's i do. otherwise, it's not fair if you do EVERYTHING.

i've noticed the same thing about modest mouse... their older albums are much more abrasive, and it's seemed to be moving towards the manufactered crap; each new album that comes out i like a little bit less than the previous one. i haven't bought the new album yet because i'm afraid of it.

Hey, I drove from Portland to Bumbershoot just to see Modest Mouse and I was shocked how much new material they played. Their set was at least 60% new tunes. I don't know how I feel about the new stuff. I like how their music doesn't pertain to the 3 minute radio pop crap a/b/a format, however most the new stuff I heard was quite short. I'm hoping that they had shortened the songs so they could play more in their time slot. I really dug 2 of the new songs. One with the lyrics "the good times are killing me" and this other one with an awsome beat which they transitioned into at the end of Cowboy Dan. It's nice to have a Portlander in Modest Mouse, but I still don't know what Mr. Green was thinking when he left the band. I've seen his new band twice now and am not that impressed with it, but whatever. Bumbershoot was great and the definate highlight was Dub Narcotic. Calvin Johnson is the hipest groovester since the 80's to 2003. And to comment on the commercial... I fear the day I see Modest Mouse on MTV!

Thanks for the kind words! I actually don't know if I'll be able to keep my journal up next year. It all depends on where they send me and I'm not going to know that until May. If I'm teaching at a college in China, then yes. If I'm living in a hut in Kazakhstan, then probably not, or at least not very consistently. In any case, I want to try to keep in touch with all of my fellow diarylanders. It's kind of scary to think that I might be completely cut off from this for two years. Are you going to Cat Power this next Saturday? I'm thinking about going.

Hey Bexx! "Bah" was me venting boy-frustrations. That's the noise I make when I'm frustrated with boys. "Bah!" As for Lightning Bolt, the only album of theirs I have is "Ride The Skies" but it has a lot of really really intense stuff on it so I would probably recommend that first even if I owned more of their stuff. They also have a kick-ass tour dvd out. I highly recommend that as well. Seeing them live is a priceless show experience. I missed 90-Day men when they played at Howard's a year ago because I was obviously out of the country, but I heard rave reviews of that show (it was with Milemarker, imagine, at Howard's!)

I only have that timeslot until the end of the semester (next week) so I'm hoping I get a better one next semester. I don't think my body could handle that on a weekly basis. I have yet to get any Liars albums, although I NEED to! We sounded like we were drunk on air or something because stuff that sounds funny to you at 5am isn't always funny in real life.

I'm already trying to devise plans for keeping myself awake because i was never one to fair well without sleep. the show right before me is two solid hours of punk, so maybe i'll just listen to that and be awake but royally annoyed. as for the clay room, i'm an art building poser so i just come in with my art-major roommate. i totally bombed the first two pots i tried to make, but it reminded me how much i love art and how much i hate writing papers. a bit late to switch majors, unfortunately.

Ha! I'm seeing Aloha on Sunday night! I used to see the drummer around the music building all the time. Anyway, Andrew WK is this guy from Detroit who sounds like an 80's power rock hair band, but with really kitsch lyrics and a sonic wall of sound. He does about 30 jump-kicks per song and though he is not for everyone musically, one cannot help admiring his ability to rock and rock hard. Song titles include: "Party Hard" "Party till You Puke" "She is PRetty" etc etc. If it's any clue, he's opening for Aerosmith in Detroit the night before and then playing Howards the next day.

the wheelchair guy, i dont think he could really do anything except control his wheelchair with the little lever. so what he did was just plow over people from behind to get to the front. no one was really impressed but no one said anything because he's in a wheelchair and blah blah. anyway, i was one of the people who almost got ran over when he decided he didnt want to be at the front anymore and suddenly launched into reverse!

Hey! Howards is topping itself by having ANDREW WK play in December. Granted, I'm not a huge fan of his music, but the man knows how to put on a show and he's going to kick the walls down with that super-high jump-kick that he executes so well. Date boy is still on a west-coast tour with *urg* Saves the Day, Kind of Like Spitting and Ash (damn I'd love to see Ash) so I won't be seeing him for another week or so. But he's going to come down and visit me when he gets back (he lives 3 hours away, blast). Hope things are goin well for you. I'm trying to think of any shows in Clevo that I'll be going to, but I don't think there will be any in the near future. I'll of course let you know if I'll be making any show appearances, though!

The "date" went well but now he's doing a west-coast tour so I won't see him for three weeks. He also plays the banjo, which makes me swoon. Thanks! My dad's actually still alive, but he nearly didn't make it out of that one. Looking back on that entry, it seems kind of high-school-journal-ly, ug. Hey, if you get the chance, you should go see Saturday Looks Good To Me play at the Agora Theater October 23 (I'm not 100% on the date, but I think that's it). Unfortunately, they're opening for Saves the Day, but Ash and Kind of Like Spitting are playing as well, so maybe it's worth the inflated ticket prices.

I'd call mr. travis a casual acquaintance. basically, we hang out a bit before shows, but that's the extent of it. I got to see them play in England twice, and my friend jess and I drove to dc last december to see them and we stayed at travis's house. Hope you made it home okay. I fooled a cop because he pulled me over for 78 when just a few minutes before I was doing about 90. joke's on him, man. not sure about sleater-kinney, though, since i've got a fat speeding violation to pay off now.

nope, still no CDs. it takes a bit due to my canadian-ness i'm sure. you know how you can "check the status of your order online" ? my CDs have usually arrived before the stupid thing even says they have been processed/sent, so i really have no idea when they are going to show up. i haven't gotten anymore modest moust stuff, but would definitely like to if i *ever* see the two albums you recommended in a store. but don't worry, i do love the one i bought. gus gus is sort of chill out-y electronic music (i am the WORST at describig music) but at the show they were much more beat-y and faster pasted. it was weird, but good. i do plan to write about it, once i focus myself to!

Mann, Bexx, I could not agree with you more about the Modest Mouse concert blowing chunks. First off, they open with friggen' Cowboy Dan (probly one of my least favorites by them). What a way to get everyone disinterested as quick as possible. Then, after that 10 minute dirge, they follow it up with Night on the Sun (which I like) but is another long non-action oriented "epic". You'd think they'd play their most dance oriented songs for a concert tour whose main focus is having fun. And no Doin' the Cockroach, what the hell is that about? Of course, Isaac was being an incoherent fuckhead per usual. So, Kinky didn't play? That's a pity, they were like a rock en espanol/techno/cumbia mixture, lots of energy (if you're into that kind of thing). And The Flaming Lips completely rocked the house, in my opinion. I'm interested to hear you're thoughts on the others at the show.

B- I like indie movies too, but the closest theater to me that shows indie movies is a billion miles away. (One closeby has an indie one every three years, but whatever) so the only time I watch them is when the library has them. Is that the hotel where Sid killed Nancy? Or was that a different Chelsea?

Hey! well if you go to: http://www.angelfire.com/punk3/allaboutus0/Linda.html except I notice now I forgot one of my favourite all time movies, Trainspotting. I'm stupid. Actually, looking at this page it needs serious editing. I don't know if we'd like all the same movies because I like so many dorky movies and old movies and movies people either have never heard of or hated. I like MUSICALS for God's sake, and its not like I'm some triple threat who sings along and pretends to be one of the characters. I just like the songs. I like contemporary musicals, I've seen Hair so many times I basically have it memorized and I saw Godspell... Have you seen The Doors? If you haven't you should. As if you couldn't guess, it's about The Doors, mainly Jim Morrison. It's weird and good. Wow, I forgot a lot of things. I loved This Is Spinal Tap, My advice on movies never to see: Jeepers Creepers or Scary Movie 2. And never pay to see Not Another Teen Movie. Looking at my list of favourite movies and thinking about the ones I forgot depresses me. You've pointed out what a dork I am. What movies can you reccomend?

i just wanted to tell you that i am SO enjoying the modest mouse album. it is great. you are right, never ending math equation is the best song. i also like broke. and i figured out the song that makes me want to have sex with him *the most* is all night diner. that song is nuts but something about it makes me want him! rarr. i'm really sad now that i don't have AOL and we can't talk beyond diaryland notes. crap.

I got my Standard Grade results today. They're national exams, I think they're a bit like SATs in that respect, but you take them when you're sixteen. I took Art was one of my subjects, and I got an A! Wow. I totally thought I'd failed the Art History exam. Yey!

Ay, it's me again. Sorry bout the delayed response, I can be like that. So, I heard from a friend of a friend who was friend's with someone who went out Isaac that she was mistreated and abused and all that. There were too many middlemen for me to really confirm the validity of the story, but he's such an odd fellow that I could see how it might be true. Me and you have a pretty similar taste in music, the kind of stuff that people misapproriately label as emo which in turn makes us wanna punch them in the face, ha. I'vve never heard Hovercraft though. The Mrs. Eddie Vedder part is what has me running away in fear.

to answer your question - uh, honestly, I think anorexia is definitely more to do with one's mind. Once you've started to see yourself as too fat, common sense get's thrown straight out of the window, and you get sucked in despite your beliefs. Okay, obviously the media shoving forth a tiny, emaciated figure and saying "Hey, women, this is beauty" is totally screwed, but when I joined that ring I was pretty screwed too. Never really thought about this before :)
<br>
Ooh, and thanks for leaving me a note! There is life around my diary! (faints in shock) Also, Amelie is an exellent film. I love the part where the tourist commits suicide - it's so refreshingly quirky :D

|
| from
ladygoodman : |

when my mom took one of my kittens, our older (4-5 years old) cat did NOT like it. it took a looong time to slowly introduce them to one another and there was much smacking and hissing and fur raising. mind you there was no peeing, but it was difficult. at first we had to keep the kitten in a carrier so that the older one couldn't "get at" her during their "meetings". even now they are not great buddies, but the older cat can tolerate the younger one and that is as good as it's going to get i think. be patient! i'm sure it will work out in time.

you should definitely check them out. they sold out both their shows here in l.a., so i'm guessing they're quite popular...they're also getting airplay on the crappy alterno-rock station here, so i have this feeling they'll be playing bigger shows next time they tour. the crowd was kinda lame, but they put on a good show.

No, unfortunetly, I have not seen them in concert. Although they are coming to my city pretty soon...Sept. I think. How 'bout you? Are they any good? I think they are the only band that I really like that I haven't seen in concert. :( I saw "Y Tu Mama Tambien" and I thought it was great. Nothing can seem to compare to it. I try and base my opinions of movies along the basis of that film and they can't compare at all!!! I also saw "Amores Perros" and I thought that was great too. I have been really getting into foreign films lately. How 'bout you? Do you like foreign films?
