K, Cam - this is a long-ass message and I'm not sure if it'll all fit, but: here goes ... Ahoy! I realize this is more than a bit random, but- Steve McCrea is retiring at the end of this year. I thought it would be nice to collect letters (or drawings, photographs, collages, favorite drink recipe – you get the idea) from former ALPHA students. My goal is to have this ready by May 21st. If you could please take the time to write (or color, or draw, or paste, etc) something that would be great. It doesn’t have to be long, or intense, or all-encompassing - but I know he really appreciated this when I did it for my graduating class in 2000. It would mean a lot to him, and I know that he – and the program – meant a lot for me. I will probably make a book (or if I get none-book shaped objects a decorated box) for everything. I believe the distinction for "song" and "record" is a throwback to an era when "records" were actually still being regularly released. Back in the early days it was possible to go into the studio and record a one song "record", you remember those little 45's? I think the analogous format is the "CD Single." So, you can win best "song" which is simply the best song no matter where it comes from, and also win best "record" which is really something like "best single." I think...I could be wrong, but this is how I understand it.

Don't go with US Celluar. My Dad uses them at work and says it is the worst service he has ever had...he complains about it EVERY time I see him. In a nutshell...you can't use them indoors nearly as well as most other phones. (hey...this is the third note in a row from me...way to go me!)

Meant to tell you this earlier: out of the blue, last Tuesday, my dad suggested he and I watch this movie he got a long time ago that my mom didn't like, but he thought I'd love. It was Aguirre. So we watched it Thursday night. How fucking random is that? Also, I'd recommend seeing "Big Fish". It's a good story, and, in my grossly unlearned opinion, cinematically well-made.

That was the very first issue of the CF Times. I noticed a couple in the Cup on Saturday too. I suppose it's a nice idea, and I guess it's going to be a monthly thing for a while, but it was pretty highschool sports-heavy, and wasn't all that different than the Tiger Hi Line, in content and form. Sad, really.

I've seen Grave of the Fireflies and loved it. As for Spirited Away, I started watching it and although the movie was good from what I had seen, I passed out before I got too far. It's still on my list of movies to see.

Thanks for clearing up my historical error. The page has been editted. Anyway, I seriously hope Dubya's victory goes down in history as illegitimate. I think it points to how archaic the electoral college system is. A democracy is supposed to be a system where the will of the people makes decisions. The will of the people (through the popular vote) was for Gore to win. I think that election shows how faulty the system is. Anyway, Dubya has no chance of re-election in 2004.

I read your alpha alumni's diary today "teen-know-it-all." Anyway, it was amusing to say the least. That guy did come across as a little arogant. I liked his argument that "at least approach the Bush administration (regardless of how dumb you think Bush is, he has some damn smart people around him) with something other than a preconviction that they're wrong." What a lame argument. Did he forget that Bush was the one that picked the supposed smart people surrounding him? Can and idiot make wise decisions?? I don't think so. It made me smile anyway...thanks for the humor.
