I've always been the opposite way. Real-life blood and injury I can handle (so long as it's not too severe and not mine), but gory movies and tv shows ... guck. Can't look. I tell myself that it's because in real life I can do something about it, but it may just be that I'm really, really strange.

Would it be impolitic to point out that there are lots of midwinter holidays, and that you can't always know at a glance which one any given person celebrates? Or that the timing of Christmas and a lot of its symbols (like the tree, for instance) were co-opted from pagan festivals that predate Christianity? I mean, you'd have to be a bit sensitive to be offended by something that's obviously meant as an expression of goodwill, but how would you feel about people assuming that they know your religion when they barely know you? I'm just saying.

Yeah, I know where Kingwood is, I had a friend who used to live there. I live out in Fall River. I loved Jonathan Nasaw's "Girls he Adored", but I can't find any of his older stuff anywhere.
