I am glad to see that you are "back." However, I have been reading your stuff at mindcast, and I've been really enjoying it. Anyhow, a martyr, eh? Sure, I agree. It's just too bad that we usually don't recognize them before they are gone. I wonder if he got any enjoyment out of life at all? Did he enjoy music? Or colours? Anything? How can we know? I assume that because he was a "vegetable," that he had no way of communicating either his pleasure or pain to anyone. I think if I was suddenly imprisoned in such a body, I would go insane. And yet, what if I had lived my whole life that way? How can I know? And why is it, after reading such a touching story, my brain responds in such an arbitrary way, as to remind me of a quote from an old book:
Younger brother: "If he was a vegetable, what kind of vegetable was he?"
Teenage sister: "He was a turnip, okay? A goddamn turnip."
Or something to that effect.

fair enough, fair enough... although i don't know if i can forgive you for putting rush in your list [shudder]... however, your salvation lies in your partiality to vonnegut (asimov i'm not too crazy about)... and yes, i put kafka BEFORE camus for the simple reason that he's a much better storyteller, whereas camus has a nasty tendancy to get bogged down in his own charlatanism at times... sure, the stranger is one of the best damn books i've ever read... but others, such as the plague and the first man, near brought me to tears... i shouldn't have to discipline myself just to get through a book... one more feather in camus's cap though: the myth of sysiphus is one bitchin' essay... i can't read it enough... but where was your class, and your big audio dynamite, and your talking heads? surely you can't be as well-rounded as you claim to be without owning a few such albums? i would have spent all day listing bands on my profile (many of which you put yourself), but painfully condensed it all down to five... but, like i said, your point is a valid one, so i tip my hat to you...
HEY WAIT!!!! WAS THAT A SLAM ON NEIL YOUNG??!?!!?!?!?!?!?!??!
