from greenwitch :
I just posted the guest entry, finally :oP
from greenwitch :
The entry seems to be finished. I had done more than I remembered. I am not sure if you were going to set up for a guest entry (in the gold memeber stuff) or just give me your password. Let me know :-)
from greenwitch :
Ya know I started writing the entry and then got swept up in the farmer's market season. Since A. seems to have an ear infection this morning maybe I will be in the house instead of out today and I will try to finish....
from kestra :
The old template only looked a little "off" in Internet Explorer, but I use FireFox, which it looked really fouled up there. Converting from browsers is not usually a problem, but I think it was something to do with all of the layering. When I looked at the coding, it was impossible to figure out. It's no wonder it took Abe so long. Anyway, I love the new layout. It's even better, because it shows up perfectly on FireFox too. :-)
from greenwitch :
Love the new template!
from greenwitch :
I don't know if it is my computer but your font looks a bit crowded and different...... just wanted to let you know......happy weekend!
from greenwitch :
That was the textbook version of modern witchcraft which may send you off looking at things that may not be helpful. For instance Alistair Crowley was a very interesting character and had some definite influence on the mystical traditions of the early twentieth centuries but his writings can be rather hard to get through. I love his deck of tarot cards though and they are all I use (the paintings were done by a woman). The link between ceremonial magick and modern witchcraft is pretty easy to trace. The use of the pentagram goes back to the Lesser and Greater Banishing Rituals of The Pentagram used by the Golden Dawn. It is an excellent way to secure your circle if you are working in a way that requires it. The concepts of invocation and evocation are also from ceremonial magick and the Golden Dawn. The ceremonial magick traditions often site other ancient systems as their basis and is all very interesting to study but..... Note I am hesitating to advocate that study even though I did just that. I guess what I am saying is it is interesting and useful but not mandatory. A practice in meditation and visualization would be just as useful for magickal purposes. A serious examination of your intent when you set out to do a ritual is of the utmost importance. Long enough, eh? Just my two cents. I haven't read that type of description of Wicca in about twenty five years!

The number of old gods and goddesses can be totally overwhelming! Not a silly question at all. I found that choosing one culture to examine at a time was very helpful For instance I have scottish blood in me so I looked at the Celtic deities. You then might want to have a look at the greek pantheon. The egyptians are rather complex but the myth of Isis and Osiris is one of many earlier versions of the risen god (ie: Christ). What will happen after a while if you look at each culture individually is you will see the paralells from one culture to another (Artemis in Greece is the "same" as Diana in Rome, Demeter and Hera are also corresponding Goddesses) This link will give you a list of Goddesses from various cultures. Find one that hits you in the gut and go from there maybe...http://www.mothergoddess.com/completelist.htm Please forgive the Goddess emphasis but I think I mentioned my feminist leanings ;0)....... Another direction you can come from is a particular symbol that has deep meaning for you. Find the corresponding Deity and use that as a beginning. One of the great beauties is that you can do this any way you want.... no doctrine to get in the way. Let me know if I can be of any more help.

Did you know the line, "Suffer not a witch to live," is actually a misinterpretation. It was meant to say, "Suffer not a Poisoner to live." Since witches probably had knowledge of poisons, that's how the two terms got switched around in the translation...
from adam-selene :
now that is very interesting. times seem to have not changed at all. i don't think we'd see hangings and burnings like in the 1800's, but the feelings and resentments seem to be the same. all i know is that wicca makes sense to me. live and let live, acceptance, the power and beauty of nature...yeah that's the way to live. is god a woman? i think so. the male mind could not create the world we live in. it would be a vastly different place if it were so...and trust me on this cuz i am a male! so to the author of that last entry, to my wife, greenwitch, kestra...eveyone, enjoy the faith that you have that 90% of the world may be wrong...just keep believing, keep living, keep loving.
from greenwitch :
That bit of brainwashing described makes me have to ask you....have you seen a video called "The Burning Times" ? Explains alot about why whitchcraft is damned to hell. Makes one think a bit more feministly (is that a word?!). Check it out if you can......Whitches have mostly been women and we hold a power that scares the crap out of men. That is why a certain gospel is all about restrictions on what women do and how they look and how absolutley evil they all are ( remember Eve, it is ALL her fault and women have to PAY)
from greenwitch :
Responding to your note to me....yeah that is A. She LOVES goats!
from greenwitch :
A lovely blessing. Blessed be.
from greenwitch :
Very well put piece about words and their power. One of the reasons that I won't let the word "stupid" into my house.

Hi! It's Kestra! :) I just wanted to let you know that I signed up for a new diary! Well, I haven't added anything significant in the way of new material, and I just threw up a quick template. I promise to work on it more later, but I thought I would leave you a note to let you know that it's been created now! :) It's the username I'm signing with, by the way, just in case that isn't obvious. :) Bye!
from greenwitch :
This may seem obvious but then maybe not. Have you read Z. Budapest? She is one cool lady. I did a work shop with her and the energy was fantastic. I always find something inspiring in "The Grandmother of Time" and "Grandmother Moon". "The Storytellers Goddess" by Carolyn Edwards is another favorite and an easy read to familiarize yourself with some Goddesses. Each Goddess is described through a fairly short myth/story. I have used this book when working on rituals for symbolism and inspiration. It will also be the book I use to discuss Goddesses with my daughter. As you may have guessed by now I lean toward the feminist but fully acknowledge the God forms also.
from greenwitch :
Cool space! I look forward to reading. Blessed be.
from fairylove2 :
