I find your arguments convincing. The "deep lessons" of AB really would have landed with a thud if Spacey hadn't been there being funny. And you are right on about Cooper. So maybe I liked this movie because: 1) I fell for the self-flattery elements you describe (hey, I'm human) 2) Shiny surfaces can make up for a lack of real substance for me, especially if the surfaces are musical 3) I was not exposed to the hype you describe, since I was living in isolation at the time, unless you count my auxillary brains, Nate and Dave.

I like the one where you're firm with the student in a banal-teacher way. You claim to be embarrassed, but don't you feel deep-down kind of reassured, or even proud? Maybe the kids need you to be the predictable teacher-persona and you sensed that and delivered it.

what the hell is up haha? it's harvas, your phantom friend from state college. are you still in the bay area? i'm headin' out there in august, camping on some farm in Davenport (near Santa Cruz). Gonna be in San Fran for a little and wanted some learned tips as to what is cool other than the muy tipico fisherman's warf, golden gate park, haight-ashbury suggestions. Will be in Berkeley too for a little...which if I am not mistaken, is haha's hideaway. yes?
