Looking back over the last 20 years or so, it seems apparent to me that the whole takeover of the GOP started with people like Newt Gingrich. It's the whole "neo-con" thing. They ranted and raved, and made a big ruckus, and their message was very well-defined: This is good, that is bad, we know the difference, and we've done the thinking for you. With that, the GOP attracted a lot of people whom I wouldn't consider "free thinkers." They attracted people who need to be told what's right and what's wrong, in absolutes. In turn, that's what then attracted the religious reich, the fundamentalists who can't think for themselves and are so afraid of making a "mistake" if they do (and therefore go to hell), take the Bible literally and believe in things like creationism. There are no shades of gray with the GOP, and there's no room for dissent among the rank and file. Which is why I left.

Have I ever told you that you remind me of me at your age? Seriously. My parents weren't in the military, and we didn't move around, but whenever there was about to be a change in my life, I set about completely discarding everyone and everything in my former life. Sometimes I just cut people and things out. Other times (not that you do this), I became what my mother called "impossible." I was all about the leaving, and the changing, and not at all about the keeping. I still do that, to an extent. I have absolutely NO mementos from old loves. Not even my prom pictures. Not sure about you, but with me, it's a self-defense mechanism. As in, it doesn't hurt so much to say goodbye to people and places if it's already in my mind that they suck.

I have a box of clippings for my "wall collage" as I refer to it. When I took it down from my mother's house, it took me over six hours, and the skin beneath my fingernails was bruised for over a week from all the thumbtacks. :) And the first collage I ever made? hey girlie...just wanted to say thanks for using my NY layout...as for your drop down menu not working, there is a tutorial on my page on how to fix it and set your links up. just look under the "tips and tricks" section. also...your page takes FOREVER to load because of all your rings. i suggest making a new entry, and placing all your rings in there. then making a link from your drop down menu to that page. otherwise...it takes forever for everyone to see your page, each time. just an idea! take care! lemme know if you need more help.
