I think that is a great entry, Lisa. I loved reading it because I have thought so many of those same things myself. I wish I had more concrete answers, but I really don;t. I, like you, know lots of people who have had their lives wrecked by drugs and the lives of thsoe around them. The scariest drug out there is meth and kids are doing it the most. It makes me scared for the kids we teach and the kids we will one day raise.

I know I'm not what you'd call a walking advert for the drug-addled life-style just at the moment, but that's beside the point (she says). Do you include alcohol as a drug? If so, then fair play, but if not I'd say that as far as drugs go, the same things apply. People take them for a variety of reasons to do with having a little lift, feeling different, making an evening go with a swing, like having a drink, but with a wider range of feelings. Speedy things give you lots of energy, downery things relax you, e's make you see the good in everyone and everything plus you dance for hours (that's my fave). Most people who use drugs, like most people who drink, do most when they're young and don't have responsibilities, then tone it right down as things change. People who can't bear to be alone with the thoughts inside their heads get into trouble - with booze, smack, coke or whatever. I've known people who've been using heroin recreationally - ie doing it now and again - who've overdone it and woken up one day with a craving to get more and they've just resisted it, because that kind of addiction was not what they were after. And I've known people who have become addicted, not all of whom are with us today, so I'm not saying it's all good by any means. But look at the lives that are ruined by alcohol as well - and all the rest of us that just enjoy getting a bit pissed every now and then. Dunno what the answer is and I hope your entry wasn't inspired by anyone too close to home. Love, bossy big mouth anna xxx

I know what you mean about next term, but I think it's just what happens in the holidays. I feel, as I always do in August, that I will NEVER be able to control a class of disaffected teenagers, how did I ever think I could be a teacher etc. That's where I am now. But it'll be OK, and you will be OK too, betcha. Aisleyne to win!!! Or Glyn. I liked Pete a lot for a long time, but I'm thinking he's a bit spineless. I wondered why your cars were both still at home I drove past this morning and was going to ring you from work in case something had happened! People are going out for Craigs bday tonight but I can't afford to go :-( like not at all afford it BUT if you're not going either it would be great to see you and find out who has been backstabbing WHY you're off work and also WHY don't you move into my house so I can see you more :'-( when you first moved in we even started eating meals together and my house was always full of lisaandkevin and now it's all empty and I feel like you're a million miles away. Don't worry about not having an interview yet - it will come. Keep doing your supply teaching and doing a wonderfully amazing job and soon people will be asking for you and if a job comes up they will want to hire you! And as for moving your wedding up, I think that is excellent! You guys love each other and want to get married sooner - that is great. Well done you, getting back in there. This is a bossy note, sorry. It's a different bloody world, being supply, and although I wouldn't like it for long (and I don't think you would) it's a good place for some of us, some of the time. Nobody takes any notice of you, which is kind of lonely, but also liberating. Have some of your own work with you for different age groups and if the work set doesn't respect your needs as supply, then you owe that teacher nothing. Do what you like, try out different things, have fun with the kids, see what works for you. No one will notice and you'll gradually get yourself back into it. I found it a real breathing space, though I did spend my lunch break texting cos I didn't have a friend, boo hoo. Sorry this sounds so Auntie Anna, but, well, sorry and all, but I am now your Auntie Anna as well as Mandy's so this is what you get. Night night, love xx

I read through your entire entry and found it very interesting to read [obviously!!] because I wanted to compare what your subbing [supply teaching -hehe - maybe I will start saying that one now] experience was like compared to mine. In regards to lesson plans I have had notes scribbled on a sticky, I have had a hand written lesson on looseleaf and have had explicit lesson plans all typed up! I guess it really varies and depends on the teacher. The whole two times I had a sub last year, I left seating plans, left everything out that was needed on my desk, along with a typed up lesson plan. But I knew I was going to be away, I suppose it is different if you are sick and have to call in the morning of. Then you dont have time to plan everything and leave everything. I am sure you did just fine today!!! I am gald you stuck it out and kept it together. That is wonderful that the kids liked you so much. I often find other teachers sort of ignore you.....but whatever, I am there to do my job and then leave. And you MARKED??? I never mark, unless that is specifically what I am getting paid for. You are a way better supply teacher than me. :P I hope you will have more experiences and that they will be more positive for you. Oh, and I can't believe that you guys don't have Thanksgiving over there!! I never knew that. That is so crazy. I love Thanksgiving, the getting together withfamily, eating yummy food and all that good stuff. Anyways, this note is suuuuuuuper long so I shall go now. :P

and now I read back an entry and have more to say (yes, I obey moo's every word blindly, then see where I've lept, or leapt, for that matter)... most important - confidence comes back by doing what you are afraid of doing.... you have knowledge, you can teach, you just have to get you foot into the classroom and start... after the first few minutes, let your desire to give knowledge take over, be there, let the students curiosity lead you through your lesson plan... it's like sky diving or learning to swim or performing brain surgery or anything else, once you start you must finish because you can and want to... forgive any mistakes (learn from them) and do better each day (and feel the confidence grow)... or if another job comes along that you like better than teaching, great... I hope things work out for you and your family... death and tazes are part of life and to have a happy life we must find ways to deal with both... not like them, but accept them and enjoy the rest... being a friend of moo's, you're obviously marvelous, so let your love light shine and you'll be fine... I wonder if you noticed the pun "get it off your chest" (pardon my amusement, I love language... and being me, I might consider wearing a T-shirt with the words "please avert your eyes" next time... I'd probably not put the guys name on the T-shirt... probably :)

I just lucked out completely. I bumped into a woman I'd trained with last summer and told her I was doing supply. She was just starting in a PRU and I told her I'd always fancied that (yes, I was that woman. I said those words) When they needed one day a week supporting a particularly 'challenging' boy, she thought of me and I did that for a while. PRU's here are run by Out of School Learning who also run hospital teachers and the clerk in the office asked me if I'd give this a go. If only they'd pay me it would be perfect. Though I do miss my classes of baddies. I saw this terrible girl I used to teach, Janine, yesterday in the hospital, a real shocker of a girl and she spontaneously threw her arms round me in front of her mum and her boyfriend. They looked stunned rigid when she said I used to be her teacher - why wasn't she snarling? It reminded me that actually, liking the kernel of good in juvenile delinquents is quite rare and maybe I should be working in that area. If I can find a place to do it that doesn't eat me up emotionally - too old and tired for that. Sorry this is such a long note. Love Anna xx

I really really blew it at my last school (swearing at that class, for example) and it all spiralled out of control, but I did supply and gradually got my confidence back because if you mess up on supply, never mind, learn your lesson from it and then off to somewhere new.
