Sorry to hear about your dad, Megan. I'll keep y'all in my prayers!
Before working in circuit (criminal) court, I was in chancery (civil) court for seven years. I know EXACTLY what you're talking about as far as what humans truly value. It's awfully sad that the children get caught up in the middle of it all...they did not ask to be brought into the world. After working in both courts, it will definitely make a person wonder just how much longer this world can exist. I'll stick to my little bubble, thankyaverymuch. :)

So glad you liked the soup. Isn't it an easy recipe? To answer your question - our neighborhood itself doesn't have a drive-in. We go to one of the few remaining drive-ins in Massachusetts (Mendon Drive In - www.mendondrivein.com) which is about 9 or 10 miles away. People bring lawn chairs and blankets and snacks, the kids play frisbee in the rows until the movie starts, and no one sits in their car, they sit in their chairs to watch near their car. The kids go from family to family seeing who has the best snacks, and they come home dusty and tired. It is really a nice thing to do. The drive-in has two screens, and one screen generally runs family fare (this weekend it is Shrek 3 and Surf's Up. The second screen is more PG 13 and R, but generally nothing too racey or violent. Hope you have a drive-in near you!

We had a birdhouse my nephew made me at my old house but a squirrel chewed the entrance hole real big and made it unusable after 4 years of wrens called it home. For a handthrown birdhouse just go to your local "upscale" garage sale. Even in a roomful of junk sometimes there is a gem...don't know why someone hadn't snatched it up for 1.50, it's really pretty. I would love a purple martin apartment, one of these days we will get one. I love to watch them swoop around and pick mosquitoes out of the air.

Loved your entry! Of course, NOW we have hot rollers, blow dryers, but back in the day, if you wanted straight hair it was the orange juice can rollers or ...eeeks!...ironing your hair with newspaper and wax paper. I can still remember that smell. Ick. And the minute there was a bit of humidity, it was back to bushy hair. I finally gave up.

Oh how I can identify...my hair though not curly was always thick and wavy and I too got the "you're so lucky' and "you have such beautiful hair" from "old people". I'll never forget in 4th grade my Mom gave me a Toni home perm and botched it up at that....Oh how awful I looked....still when I see that picture...I cringe. In ever picture of me with that perm...I am crying...gee wonder why. I think parents should let their kids do whatever they want with their hair...even a mohawk...heck...it's just hair..doesn't mean it will stay that way for life. Loved your post today.

I have my own room too. Best decision we ever made. I also need white noise but mine is a CD that plays itself out on my CD clock radio of a spring rain with a pan flute playing lightly in the background. If I wake up, I hit the go button and start it up again. It's like a tranquilizer. Also...if the fleet enema is the worst of the colonoscopy..then it must be pretty bad, cause I can't imagine anything worse than letting a stranger with a hose stare at your bare butt.

Bluefish is a cold-water fish that is very strong-tasting, and a bit oily. It is a real New England treat, and is somewhat hard to find even here. The best way to eat it is broiled or baked with just a bit of lemon and butter. If you have a fish market, the proprietor may be able to order it fresh for you, but I'm not sure if I'd recommend it frozen, it might taste too fish then. Hope you get to try it!

You know who you are deep down in there. I've met her and she's amazingly strong and creative and beautiful. You let others see the you inside more than you know and you may not realize this but you have this light about you that shines all the time. You are so beautiful inside you take my very breath away. There is no other woman in this world I look up to more than you, mom. I know it's so easy to lose you along the way. I understand this now more than ever. I play so many roles in this world that most of the time I put "me" dead last. I hate to put "me" dead last because I know inside of me is some woman that is just as amazing as I think you are. Because of you and what you've taught me, you've showed me how to shine like you. You gave me your strength and your courage. I know who you are, mom, and I really love her. As long as you know you're still in there somewhere, you're not too lost.
Love you.

Also, who you are is what you do every day of your life...your real thoughts when left unchecked and ungarded. You are the way you live your life on a day to day basis....We are all rivers...a drop of water in any given part of the river is never the same drop as it was a moment ago...it is ever changing...yet it is still the river.

Sure - I just think people might be bored by my recipies. Here it is:
1 large can chicken broth (or you can make your own - then have about 7 cups)
2 large boneless skinless chicken breasts
1 cup of salsa (store brand is fine, but home-made is better and we always have some in the fridge)
1 medium onion finely chopped
3 carrots cleaned and cut up
1 can MExican style stewed tomatoes
1 T ground cumin
1 t epazote or oregano
1 t freshly ground black pepper
1/4 cup chopped cilantro
juice from half a lime
4 cloves garlic chopped
1 can canellini beans drained and rinsed
Any fridge bits - peppers, extra onion, tomatoes, etc. if you have them
Dump everything in a crock pot set on low heat for 7.5 hours. Mix to combine. After 7 hours, shred the chicken breasts with two forks and return to soup.
Serve with crushed tortilla chips, 1 T reduced fat sour cream and 1 T reduced fat shredded cheddar or Mexican cheese. ENJOY!

I was a fort builder in every sense of the word. We had a field at the end of the block and we made large holes in the ground with little dirt seats and the holes were surrounded by wood we got off the old barns on the property and nailed together, until Stevie Campbell accidently hit his brother over the head, then our hammer was taken away.

Hi Megan,
I am taking effexor. Years ago I had panic attacks and the Dr. put me on Prozac. That worked and eventually I was weaned off of it.
Then, last November I realized I was having more panic attacks and was sad all of the time. I'm 49, so I knew that menopause could have something to do with it, but after months of therapy, I realized there were a lot of things going on and the therapist told me that I should probably be on medication for the rest of my life".
I really had no other side effects except for the rash, but I'm hoping I can take enough meds to keep the hives down so that I can stay on the effexor. It has really changed my life.
Aren't drugs great? Legal ones I mean! :).

I don't think I've ever tried a lemon cranberry celery jello, but grandmom had a carrot and pineapple one that I always liked.

Hey M - thanks for the good wishes. Mother's prognosis has suddenly improved, and father's surgery has been postponed indefinitely after a 2nd opinion - yay! And those headlines - well, I'm almost old enough to be a leftie from "way back" - so they were all good, to my eyes.
Enjoy Thanksgiving with all your loved ones.

Howdy - thanks for all your nice notes. I actually
get to drive to Maine for the day - 3 hours up, 3
hours back for a 1 hour meeting. I'm not complaining.
I hope to stop at LL Bean.
Andy is 9 and a half (with special emphasis on the
half, as he always must remind me.) He'll be 10 in
April.
Lime leaves are fabulous in fish or chicken soup.
Sadly, I think mine are a bit old. I keep fantasizing
about getting a kaffir lime tree, but I don't think it
would survive, even indoors. I tend to run a funeral
parlor for plants.
Have a great day! Pattypat

Here is a site I use for ideas and beads in knitting. You could add beads to your socks, and by the way I thought socks were hard to knit, I have never tried to knit socks.
http://www.knitty.com/issuespring06/FEATseducedbybeads.html
I like to use the crochet hook to add beads in wherever and whenever I want to. Oh, and I did go to the pumpkin carving site, I did alot of them. Thanks! Happy knitting sock #2

Hi, so your son is into tats and drawing. Good for him. I designed all of my own tattoos. I love to draw, and my son also draws, he is always taking some of my art books home. I had to buy him at an early age, Prismacolors. I like to draw in pencil and/or charcoal. I knit also. I add ribbon and beads into the scarfs I make, then I give them away. In the last few years I have donated my scarves to the Hannah Center, a place for unwed mothers, since I was one myself at one time. Anyhoo, yes you should post a picture of your sock. Do you knit with wool perhaps? I like the cashmere yarns. They are a bit more expensive but oh so soft.

Ever since Mike's latest heart blockage was found and since I am 50 and now just getting around be being concerned about myself, I am reading lables differently. I now think of candy and cakes as "bags of cholesterol"...I envision chicken fat as what cholesterol must look like....bags of chicken fat. It takes the desire for a cakey thing right out the window. A few weeks ago we were at Blockbuster renting a movie. We walked by the candy aisle after making our selection and Mike said "hey, want to buy a bag of cholesterol?"....Now I try to think of all "no no's" as the thick yellow fat. (But I still give in) Try the low fat vanilla wafers...yum! Hope all is well with you my freind. We have had terrible colds on top of this knee thing...just havn't had time to do any emailing.

Hey thanks for checking out the older tat, did you see the other one? I posted three entries for the 11th so far. I am so excited that, with my husbands help I can crop and upload a picture. Yes, that one flower started out 25 years ago, then with each life event I wanted to remember, I celebrated with adding on to that tattoo. The newest one is to celebrate being here for half a century. I haven't even had the tattoo reinked that started out 25 years ago. I also have a viney piece on my right ankle going up my leg, and I have a large piece done on my left breast. So when are you going to get one? You just can't stop with one!! :P

Hi, Your brownie sounded delicious. I can eat 5 Keebler Nilla Wafers at a time without a problem. That is the only sweet I have had since Friday, Jan. 13th, 2006. I only started introducing them in April or so, starting with one. I had C-Def(I don't know the whole long name of it) it was a very, very bad bacteria in my colon and digestive tract. I almost died. So I envy everyone who gets a treat. Though I know better than to even try eating alot of things. I am now allegric to alot of foods. Anyhoo, I am so glad that you enjoyed your brownie!

I love it! Can't wait till I can humiliate mine like that. :) I've spent some time this afternoon showing my oldest one how to figure out his averages on his progress report, and how if he wants to pull those grades up some, what he'll have to do. I think I saw a light bulb go off in his head how every grade really does count. I hope I saw it, anyway.

The other day I actually asked me hairdresser to tell me what color hair I really had. Apparently it is really dark brown with grey streaks. Who knew??!! The world sees light brown with blond streaks.

Hey you write really well. The longer and more I read and look back from the beginning, I more I appreciate your flow and understanding of nature. So I also read some of your past notes, you have loyal readers, and one seems to be one of your kids. Anyway, you wanted to know what my parents think of my tattoos. Well I have tattoos dating back over 25 years. I get a tattoo to signify something important in my life. They really liked the artwork I drew up for the celebration of my son. Over the years they have come to accept and understand that I am who I am. Did you ever watch the show for the search of the singer to lead Tommy Lee's band, SuperNova. You know that woman who made it all the way to the end. The one with all the piercings and tats. My parents really liked her style(artsy), and thought that she was the one that I really liked. Her creativity of voice and just her essence of being reminded my parents of me. So there you have it. Oh, and my parents watched RockStar SuperNova weekly also. They also watched it last year. =^..^=

Mom, I just read your last two entries and man do I miss the counry. I miss home. I miss waking up to hear the dogs barking and the birds chirping and all the sounds of morning at home. The cats being as loud as they can to get your attention, and breakfast cooking. My coffee. Your tea. I miss home. I love you, Mom. Little Mark is crying, gotta go!

It's raining pretty hard here these days too but not to the point of bridges getting washed over. My cat is yoweling all day long too. I guess they know the cold and damp is here to stay. It's days like these where I wonder if I'll ever be warm again.

Thanks for stopping by! If you want those good breakfast smell, I go for a coffee maker with a timer, and a crockpot for the oatmeal. You can set everything the night before, and by the time we have to drag ourselves out of bed in the a.m., it smells like Mom was there even if she wasn't.

Hey you like Bob Dylan. I knew him as Robert(Bobby Zimmerman). He drove truck for Crippa Music Store, between Hibbing and Grand Rapids, MN. I worked at the Grand Rapids store. I swept floors and dusted guitars, counted picks, and listened to a heck of alot of vinyl. Anyhoo, yeah I knew him, I was in junior high at the time, he was a bit older. So I have also read his book, "Chronicles" Volume 1. Oh and Judy Garland was from Grand Rapids. She sang at the Rialto Theater.

Hey there, thanks for reading my journal. I am a read-a-holic myself. So, "The Snow Garden" by Christopher Rice is excellent. It sucked me in right away. I had to keep reading to find out. I won't say any more. I was sorry to see the last page. The book I had finished before this one, was "The Historian" now that one was also a great read. The history of the real Drakula from the narrative of the family who was searching for him. It transcended time in thought. I can't remember who wrote it now, because I gave both my copies away. I had to have a copy at work and at home. Now I will read Victoria Redel's book, "Loverboy." So anyhoo, thanks again, and I will have to take a look at your writing.

As you can see, I "disappear" during our court terms. Between working and soccer at night for both boys, I have to put journal reading on the internet on the way-back burner. I am THRILLED to see you writing again!! You write so well that I swear I can hear the black walnuts hitting the roof. LOVE the 15-minute projects idea, and I may have to steal it for myself. I have so many things to do, but taking a 15-minute break away from transcribing to do something useful would be a good thing. Only three out of 24 passed...my heart goes out to the other 21 who tried. As soon as I finish this term (tomorrow/now today), I have three weeks off before I start another four-week term. And I have close to 1,000 pages to transcribe in those three weeks. By the time the term rolls around, I'll actually be ready to get back in the courtroom just to get away from my computer! Sorry this is so long, but once again, I'm so happy to see you back!
