well... if you have my luck, lemony snicket won't be able to make it. his representative, daniel handler will be there instead. when mr. snicket was supposed to come out to puyallup, he couldn't make it, because he'd been bitten in the armpit by a bug whose latin name means "bigblackbug whobiteslemonysnicketatpicnics." hopefully, he won't have such unfortunate luck before seeing you.

I am so completely and utterly JOYFUL that you were born. Happy birthday (can't remember if I'm slightly early or late, I only remember you share it with John Wayne).
Enjoy your trip as much as you can, maybe one day we can learn mandarin togther.
Thank you so much for the scarf from India, I plan on wearing it at my wedding.
I love you, travel safe.....

I completely know what you're talking about - the fear that live concerts will either suck, or make you hate the cd that you own because it just doesn't compare to the live sound at all.
anyhow, I wanted to say hi. I know it's been a long time. I'm living in Maine right now... traveling as much as possible except only in the U.S. and Canada due to budget constraints.
I am well, and I hope you are too!

I'm sure that you're very much aware of this already.... but...
Asian American Journalists Association protests Details piece
March 26, 2004
Daniel Peres
Editor-in-Chief
Details
7 West 34th Street
New York, NY 10001
Dear Mr. Peres,
We're not sure which is the more offensive aspect of "Gay or Asian?" by Whitney McNally in your April issue: its reduction of two minority groups to grab bags of demeaning stereotypes, or its utter lack of humor. But we'll focus on the former. While we can't figure out exactly what the feature is trying to say -- Asian men are gay? Asian men look gay? Asian men would be better off gay? -- there's no disguising the fact that it combinees leering sexual innuendo and a litany of the most tired cliches about both Asian and gay culture with no goal other than to ridicule both groups.
Are we overreacting to a throwaway, front-of-the-book feature in a men's fashion magazine? No. The lack of care and taste isn't the only transgression here.
Humor and "edginess" are not excuses for caricaturing and insult, and the particular caricatures being played upon here -- of gay men as predatory cruisers, of Asian men as exotic and effeminate (yet always scheming) -- are precisely those that hhave been most damaging through the years. Are there any other entire categories of men you would have felt comfortable making fun of entirely on the basis of sexuality? We think not; and we think that your readers would agree with us, and are too sophisticated to see anything funny in the portrayal.
On behalf of the 2,000 reporters, editors and industry executives of Asian descent represented by the Asian American Journalists Association, we ask that you issue an apology to the many Asian Americans who find this story offensive and pledge to take greater care in the future.
Sincerely,
Mae Cheng, AAJA National President
Abe Kwok, AAJA National Vice President for Print

VROOM! VROOOOOOM!
Another great song from that soundtrack is Denki Groove's "Niji." Listen to the cheesy early-lounge jazz stylings in the beginning and tell me that isn't the best segue ever.
Of course I know what you're talking about, and no, I'm not dead-- in case you were wondering.
If you can handle the drift, ride like the wind.

it's funny, but i've been manipulating vocoded samples to approximate human voice for a while... "i made this track to watch c------ c--- dance" uses a modified sample bank built on voice patterns that i'd ganked from other songs... but wow! they could never come close to sounding as clean as the vocaloid algorithm.
speaking of differing voices-- despite claims by another commenter, who you are in your diaryland journal is an accurate depiction of who you are as an individual. as always, victimology runs rampant among the guilty.

well, I guess that does put it into perspective, doesn't it? although, the real mystery is why did he wait until I was in my halloween costume? here I was, thinking that after a little reassurance, I could make him feel better and we could get on with our weekend... and he was just plotting the best moment to break the news.
Oh well, maybe being 23 and single ain't so bad...

You have to be an incredible hypocrite to complain about your own father not taking your interests seriously and not coming through on the things he promised to do and then turn around and, when someone else says the same thing about you, claim it's not your fault – that's just the way you were raised.
I am the woman Malraux mentioned in his explanation as to why he had stopped blogging. And since he took the time to make public a very private, and painful, thing, I figure it was only fair to post the other side of the story.
Malraux was the best man at my wedding. We graduated together from New College. When he graduated from Grad school, my husband and I went, with his family, to cheer him on. I will never forget not only how incredibly proud of himself Malraux was in getting his degree, but how much it meant that we had been there to share it with him.
In January of this year I gave birth to my first child. This is, without a doubt, the most incredible thing that has happened to me. If I ever have anything to be proud of, it is how I raise my little girl. However, it has also been a very difficult time. There was the recovery from my c-section, the long months of colic, my own struggle with post partum depression, and the battle between doing what's best for my child and finding a way to return to my profession. At no time during this point did Malraux even bother to send an email saying, "Hey, how's it going?" When pressed, he couldn't even remember what we named her. It was more important to him to travel half way across the globe on his own personal quest then to share this miracle with us.
For a reporter, it's amazing to me how little what you post, Malraux, is actually true. You've always had this crazy need to prove something that you shouldn't have to. It's like the person in your blog isn't you at all, it doesn't reflect your life. It reflects what you wish it was, or what you want people to think it is. Your post on our fall out is the same way. The sad part about that is the simple fact that I loved you not for who you were – strengths, faults, and all.
Here's how I was raised, Malraux. I was raised to know that if a friend of mine is celebrating her very first Mother's Day that I should at least take the two seconds and send her a cheesy Yahoo card. I was raised to know that when I make an ass out of myself and do something that hurts another, I should trip over myself getting on the phone and apologizing, not send some meaningless email.
I was raised to know the difference between an acquaintance, who I catch up with now and again, and a true friend who shares my highs and lows, who brings color and depth into my life. I was raised to realize that the most important things are not those things I do for myself, but that I do for others. I was raised to love what I do and be proud of my accomplishments, but to truly treasure those who were there with me along the way. Because a long time ago I realized none of what I have would exist if it wasn't for them.

Hi Q--
caught up on your last two entries--for what it's worth, no matter how many months between have passed, I'll always love hearing from you. You carry your friends with you in your heart so close that sometimes I think it doesn't occur to you that they're not tangibly there with you. I prefer that to mindless daily chatter anytime.
I love you, and hopefully we'll get to see each other soon (before Aquairius & I get married)...but if not until then, so it goes. If nothing else, January 2005 @ College Hall.
you in a kilt. be there, babe.

I thought of you when I got stuck in Grand Central during the blackout... I was on my way to New Haven. Luckily the metro north was actually in service, although I waited for quite some time. I hope you are doing well! lime-marinated squid, sounds really excellent... Oh, and I finally received a far-overdue postcard from you which the post office hadn't forwarded from my old address... thank you! Since I am probably moving again soon, I will let you know where I finally settle when I get there. So long for now... have a good day!

Happy now? I'm leaving my smart-assed comment in the notes section for once. Once is all I promise, though. Of course I read the whole thing. 90% of the time, I do, and I certainly read the bottom part in any case. The other 10% I tend to pick up later when I've got time to kill (or just think I do). Anyway, here's the inspiration today: I think you and/or Mr. Fish ought to put up some kind of a meter on your sites that counts the number of people who swear on their magic bits to go see Bubba Ho-Tep when it comes out. If we break 100, we'll about have Bruce's usual theatrical turnout. So assuming some people go who don't read one of the two of you, he'll get to make more movies (and more Ash is always groovy).
