[12.24.2004] Whoa, haven't written in here in nearly 3 months. Hehe... first off, Merry Christmas. XD
Anyway, regarding your most recent entry, it's probably not a good idea to make generalizations about a population somewhere (your friends at TJ) long after you've left the place. Although there were definitely the selfish folk (you'd have found them at any high school), there were plenty of selfless people (you'd have found them at any high school too), some of whom you possibly don't remember. It's not fair to them for you to deny their existence... because they were definitely there. Not to bash on your writing or anything because I myself am not a selfless person, but I feel as though those who are deserve recognition. Just my two cents.

[09.25.2004] CT is a very rare person but not one whose accomplishments should instill hatred or jealousy in you (she's actually kind of inspirational). It is very easy to be jealous of someone like her because it seems as though she is perfect in every way and that everything is going right for her, but she does not go through life without hardships. CT has led a very interesting life, not all of it peaches and cream... Things will also look up for you too, Clara, but only if you let them. Just as there are companies looking for people like CT, there are companies looking to recruit people like you. Cheer up... find an extracurric/activity you enjoy and pursue it... even if it seems like you don't have time for it, you can make time. Apply for research positions that sound at least somewhat interesting... and then suggest some projects more along the lines of what you would like to do and hear what the recruiters think about your ideas... Maybe they'll take one up!

Finding your diary entry is for me what finding an oasis is for a man who has been lost in the desert. I only pray (if I may do so) that I have not found another mirage.

Does Cornell offer Chinese? Most universities that have a Chinese program also have a class for speakers who don't know how to write. You could try to fit that class into your schedule if Cornell offers it...

Just stumbled across your diary-your descriptions are very eloquent and well-written. I'm in college too, I start back soon. I've never been out of the country, alas, though I'd love to. Well, I've been to Mexico, but seeing as I live in Texas, that doesn't really count. :P

And Happy New Year! Yes, both notes were from Dec. 31, 2003. Argh, I wish D-land would put dates on these. You know, like a real guestbook.

Argh, productivity. But I'm glad you approve of the layout. If only of its existence. =) Hope your trip in China gives you what you are looking for. If tragedy should touch you, may you face it with strength and beauty.

Oh man, so much has happened between my last two entries. I failed to mention anywhere the drama that occurred among all my friends here involving my roommate. It turns out, she's a manipulative, malicious, immature, egocentric little twerp whose only concern is herself. She spreads rumors about other people and lies to make herself look better, and makes people feel sorry for her so they'll like her more and feel bad about dissing her after they find out the truth about her. She talks shit about my friends to my face, and she's told lies about them to her other friends with me in the same room. (She's told people that Sangwoo had tried to rape his girlfriend once, that Ki had asked her out and that she'd turned him down even though neither was true, that Kyungsoo hated her even though he doesn't ever see her, etc.) And all this shit about me being the best roommate she could have? It turns out, she's been talking shit about me to my friends, about how she can't sleep because I'm awake late at night doing stuff so she can't fall asleep, even though I'm the one going to bed before her and SHE'S the one who's making me lose hours and hours of sleep every night, even though she's the one who flirts on the phone with guys really loudly in a high-pitched, squealy voice from 2 to 4 freaking a.m. in the morning. AUGGH. XD Sorry. Just felt the need to explain. Oh, and she's one of those really sensitive, easily offended types, so if I told her she was annoying me, she'd have more to tell her friends about me, and she could probably start a really bad rumor. sigh. I've learned that almost everything she says is a lie (because I hang out with the people she talks about, and I get contradicting stories all the time). I can't stand it. She's so... callow, to say the least.

Oh man, Clara! That's so freaky! So the profs there go online and check students' papers for plagiarism? That reminds me of this article in UVA about a professor who wrote some sort of program that looked for strings from research papers to see if there were any sites on Google that had those strings... freaky.

You still have me. I'm here now, I'll be here when you turn 18 next week, and I'll be here for the year after, and the years after that. Even if our closeness fades as we leave high school behind, I'll always be here.

No, no, no. Remember all those reasons we had for going to Cornell? They're still there. Besides, I was talking to Kelly Geoghegan (sp?), and she said that Karen Sosa from '02 was unhappy there because she was lonely. Bad stuff. Hard to make friends. Clara at Cornell will be much happier! [2003.07.03]

Okay, I saw your note on Becky's page. Do you still get d-land notifications? Anyway. Sex every 3 days ... see, I think that's a lot since the point is, it's AVERAGE. So seeing how most people AREN'T young and in love, I mean, a lot of people, then, have sex WAY more than once every 3 days. Because the 40-and-older group probably contribute significantly to the population, but they would probably drag down the number. And teenagers, while sex-crazed, generally find it harder to do it more frequently, if only because of parental supervision. So the 20-somethings must be going WILD. And that's a disturbing thought. So I won't think about it anymore.

I went to school Tuesday b/c Zheng told me to. His mom was making him (if he'd stayed home, she would have made him work on college essays). I ended up not going to mentorship. XD Should've just slept in.

The choice to make a destructive choice is still a choice. Screw work, because we hate it, and this is our rebellion. We'll take the consequencs, but THEY CAN'T CONTROL ALL OF US. Really, very 1984-ish. Make the choice. They can't take that away. Despite everything ... that's still ours. I think that's why we do it. It's not because the book is so fascinating (although it may be). It's because we want maintain some control over our own lives.

Oh, IKEA catalogue! That is one heady ambrosia. By the way, thanks for your very esteem-lifting comment on my story. I don't know what came over me ... but a lot of stories I used to write (read: silly Les Miz thingies) were that combination of weird not-humor and twistings of canon. I'd actually like to write a serious thing one of these days, but ... Anyway, thanks!

I feel kinda stupid leaving a reply for myself, but it's really for you Becky, it's really for you. =)
See, I listen to Launchcast, and the song came on and I gave it a 100 (the highest score; the same score I give Linkin Park and Eminem). I may have heard "I Do" but I'm not sure. It's a good song, a really good song. I like the melody, and once I found the lyrics, I thought it was a better song.
Actually the concert wasn't that bad at all...as evidenced by my 12/10 entry, but I still think my dad was unduly stubborn. *sigh* I agree with you. Asian parents...

I don't really understand people either. o.o` Ooh! And you listen to Lisa Loeb??? o__O You're the ONLY person I know who's listened to "Stay"!!! XD Okay, so I only really know of two of her songs ["Stay" and "I Do"], but I really, really like them and am surprised that no one else does... oh well. Silly Asian parents are stubborn.
