from kortnay :
Hi!
from bloorviaduct :
Interesting, you know 'Discovery' was always my favourite Daft Punk album- they seemed to take a departure away from the repetitive club dance beats and go a little more Supertramp if you know what I mean. Ironically (for me anyway) its the only album of theirs I downloaded and didn't pay for...
from lwnpartyrebl :
I'm very, very excited to see you.
from megansekiya :
i'm not actually sure which song Wake Up is, that's the sort of album i listened to entirely or not at all, dig? but i know in one song there's a part where the Voices don't make their full ascention until like the last time around and i was thinking, maybe that part hadn't happened yet or something? just an exuse to say hello and let you know how anxiously we are all anticipating you...
from pennyjane :
i spotted a man who looked very much like you, but to my dismay, he only just looked very much like you. that night.
from pennyjane :
Shit! It's the 13th now, and shit! I missed a dance with daines, but oh dear daines let me tell you, a dashing day by the river with minimum dollar wine or beer, it's the summer time and it's time i had a fellow to follow such a crime.
from lwnpartyrebl :
I would LOVE to see you. I really miss you! Plus I am very excited about the art on your webpage and would like to order some prints!
from bratcore :
dude. sweet. thanks. (and, as terrible as it is to say this... i barely noticed.) hope yr well.
from megansekiya :
if anyone is deserving of a breakfast nook, it's you, buddy!
from megansekiya :
or does a breakfast nook have to be off the kitchen???
from megansekiya :
p.s. is that some sort of BREAKFAST NOOK?
from megansekiya :
i have jealousy!
from lwnpartyrebl :
i'm always talking about how i miss you. it's true! i was wearing your baby blue shoes the other day. they fit just right. your house is beautiful!
from zamblam :
Dear Mr. Daines, the house looks great! It puts castlehaus to shame!
from torrence :
yr house looks beatiful, mister.
from likeaforest :
i just faxed a couple of applications for this place i saw this morning which is so obviously the apartment of OUR DREAMS.
from rustybicycle :
ps. if you want to hang out and/or get ahold of me, my telephone number is 225-0425.
from rustybicycle :
hey mike. i've realized that you can't really get ahold of me due to the failure of my diaryland notes, but i truely do still want to hang out. unless of course you are trying to shun me, in which case, i'll be shunned. also i am wondering what is going to happen to your silkscreen (and talents) when you move? i am deeply interested. thanks.
from rustybicycle :
i only just remembered that you are back now. please let's hang out, i need some craft time.
from likeaforest :
update your journal already!
from likeaforest :
http://similarminds.com/cgi-bin/city.pl
from bratcore :
Actually, i sort of lied. it was a "silver poodle" but it always seemed more grey to me...
from likeaforest :
i would call you right now if i wasn't a complete flake and somehow managed to misplace your number again!
from likeaforest :
i was STOOD UP!?
from rustybicycle :
yo mike. now that you've sparked a little interest in helping me make a craft site, i'm going to bug you all the time about doing crafts with me. please? you're the best craft partner.
from likeaforest :
i did!! it means i have a full month to find someone who wants to go see mary timony with me. (why is diaryland so lazy about sending me emails letting me know that people have left notes, lately?)
from likeaforest :
o, our new message thingy is making a mockery of me!
from rustybicycle :
sorry to bug you again but could you pretty please do that bag when you get the chance?
from rustybicycle :
hey mike, i was wondering if you have put a design on that white bag i gave you yet? i would really like to start using it for school. if you really don't want to do it anymore that's ok, i'll come pick it up and drop off that duffle bag you lent me. talk to you soon.
from likeaforest :
also, i should've been more specific: when i asked for a bird picture, i didn't actually mean for you to go to the trouble of coming up with the html for it, too!
from likeaforest :
it isn't what i really had in mind, but it's actually sort of nice. i like the edge of the book an awful lot. is the picture itself very old? also, i thought you might be interested to know that i just found out that i am apparently taking an emily dickinson course next quarter! also also: i had a dream about you. we were in new york, reading comic books, i think.
from likeaforest :
i've been meaning to ask you! do you maybe have any nice (old) pictures of birds? i have been sort of wanting to change the picture on my journal.
from likeaforest :
o dear, me too! it is sad that between the two of us it is only aim that really can put its foot down about proper bedtimes. (the zines are already in the garbage. i wouldn't have thrown them away if they hadn't been a complete mess.)
from likeaforest :
somehow everything was moldy and warped and stuck together, so i pretty much had to.
from likeaforest :
i just realized that i think i failed to grasp the point of the simultaneous entry idea. o man.
from likeaforest :
alright, an email has been sent to your hotmail account. i would've read/responded to it sooner, but today turned into a bit of a FIASCO!
from pennyjane :
you fucking gomer!
from stephenbank :
is that THE GUITAR to go with THE JACKET
from likeaforest :
your printing press came and it about weighs 500 pounds!
from pennyjane :
boys these days FORGET how to write a fuckin' love letter.
from likeaforest :
sir! you are never online!
from likeaforest :
so i was walking out of class with a student and we ran into his girlfriend so he stopped and introduced me to her as PROFESSOR braun, which was sort of weird and endearing and hilarious. (i thought you should be the first to know.)
from torrence :
Mike! Noone can access the jbk site? why is this?
from papereyes :
You were in my dreams last night, and I feel closer with you now.
from likeaforest :
so, um. that's a no?
from likeaforest :
hey, could we maybe make a PHONE DATE for this weekend or something?
from pennyjane :
man, i really love that song.
from megansekiya :
IT WASN'T HIDDEN.
from withkerth :
leaving things till the last minute and then just sitting down and doing it all in one night is the way I operate as well. Often i think that life would be easier if I were more of a "go-getter" but oh well...i guess we wouldn't be us if we weren't like that... we are awesome. you more so than I.
from torrence :
I HATE YOU, MICHAEL DAINES!
from lwnpartyrebl :
DUDE. that was my childhood bakery too. i would very often go there with my mum to get a merangue, and the nice ladies would give me free cookies. they have good rum balls too. what did you get?
from likeaforest :
(not to shamelessly copycat you, but i think my recent entry stole your line.) also, i could've sworn i saw janet weiss today. seeing how it most likely wasn't her, it struck me as a sort of odd person to imagine seeing outside a coffee shop on 17th st.
from pennyjane :
man, markus is sure taking a beating for buying the wrong bread.
from onemoredub :
Markus needs to learn the importance of GRAINS in bread.
from bratcore :
Then don't read it, sir.
from bratcore :
Lisa seemed very certain that there were, in fact, no bookbinders left in calgary (she had to send her paper to edmonton to get it bound.) I'm just messenger-ing. meh.
from likeaforest :
also, what's up with this ominous "if you're open to the possibility of disappointment" business?
from likeaforest :
yes, a phone call! most any time would work, as i'm telling myself that i'm not allowed to leave the house for the next few days in order to finish this paper. thursday night would be best, but really, sir, i'm at your disposal.
from likeaforest :
this is random but i have been meaning to tell you for ages: strangely enough, i don't think i've even ever heard dragon #1.
from likeaforest :
yes, really! he and kim gordon live in northampton (the neighboring town) so i'd see them around at shows sometimes and stuff, too. also, sir, you are never ONLINE!
from rustybicycle :
hey mike! i'd like to see you soon and tell you what i thought of your tape, etc. call me please, i don't have your number.
from likeaforest :
(the house looks pretty great.)
from stephenbank :
Hmm, I would have figured that people thought it pretty romantic to hitchhike somewhere to see a girl, that seemed to be the general consensus in calgary. While it probably would be entertaining to make up stories for each driver, perhaps I can explain what I mean with an anecdote. A couple summers ago when Sarah Phillips lived near you, I would just bike back and forth between her house and mine. Once on the way back, on 32nd ave, I got my front tire stuck in between the curb in the road, my bike flipped over and my back tire hit me in the back of the head and I was on the ground for a while. This lady and her daughter in an suv picked me up, and asked me where I lived, and when I came to my senses a little more, they asked what happened. They had expected I was hit by a car or something, and were pretty worried, I told them I crashed on my bike and they were dissapointed. They felt pretty swindled.
from stephenbank :
well, I'm rolling the ethics of lying about why I'm hitchiking around in my head, like saying that I'm going to my brothers wedding, and aside from the moral queasiness, that'll just lead to more questions, and be really strange and uncomfortable. Did you tell people you were going to see a girl? what was their reaction? Yeah, Baltimore is a pretty terrible place in every way. My mom came with me to Phillip Glass because she heard he was from Baltimore, and during his little interview, he said that Baltimore was an artistic wasteland and he got out of there as quickly as possible. It would just make sense to say "I'm going to see my brother/grandmother/uncle" while hitchiking, hence Baltimore.
from stephenbank :
in terms of having a goal...well I was thinking prospective chaffeurs might be a little miffed if I told them I was just going somewhere for the sake of going somewhere, and the only place I would really have anywhere to go would be baltimore, which is a pretty terrible place in a lot of ways. I might just wait until I have a pretty good reason to go to somewhere (say, when one of my friends leaves for school) and then get there as quickly as possible.
from stephenbank :
well, reading and hearing your experiences has me about half convinced that I should go hitchiking.
from stephenbank :
so was it worth it?
from likeaforest :
that entry makes me really scared and impressed. also, i am seriously going to have to start using that "i've always wanted to sleep with a canadian" thing because i don't think i've ever heard a better pick up line in my life!
from rogerlincoln :
Your book printing/binding venture sounds so much fun!
from recklings :
dude, can i borrow yr digital camera when i get my records back?
from onemoredub :
Yeah, it sounds a little ROBOTIC to me.
from whenyouare :
I work at a vintage clothing store and, while hanging dresses today, I noticed that one was strikingly similar to what the woman on your diary layout is wearing. Just thought that was kind of neat.
from stevecoffey :
SO YOU'RE THE REASON I COULDN'T GET SHIFTS AT THE LIBRARY
from withkerth :
congratulations! everyone knows your posters are the best!
from withkerth :
hi mike ! yes - i was serious about lido beers ! what do you think ? maybe Thursday evening of next week ? is it annoying you that i'm leaving a space between all of my question marks etc ?
from withkerth :
dude! i canNOT believe how fucking awesome that layout is! duuuudddde! thank you so much! you just made everything so much better! xo! come by tomorrow to the shop - i'm in meetings all day so i won't be able to come downstairs...? is that cool?
from bleed-tears :
sounds good
from onemoredub :
I just remembered that lunch is at my brother's apartment (at least, that's what I think!), and he lives very close by. I will let you know if those plans change, though.
from withkerth :
awesome. totally no rush. I'll be away for a week starting sunday anyhow, so i won't be updating. I'll be back Sunday the 20th, so maybe it will be like a surprise for when I get back!
from likeaforest :
so pump up the volume is totally your new favorite movie now, right??
from likeaforest :
hey, what's your address again?
from rustybicycle :
the things you do are super cool, mike. like screenprinting and working in a library and hitchhiking. you are sort of a dream. haha.
from withkerth :
nonono! i really like this one:http://home.online.no/~kgroenn/colargol/bilder/Image18a.jpg sooo cute! oh! could my words go in between them somehow?
from withkerth :
i really really like the 18.jpg picture of him in the Pictures section!!!
from withkerth :
http://home.online.no/~kgroenn/colargol/engelsk.html see that little bear named Jeremy? I love him. Some thing simple, like maybe him on the left, and then my words in a kind of square thing with rounded off corners that is kind of attached to him, and then the background just like a solid color that looks nice with jeremy, and the fonts for my "notes" "archives" etc to be something really kind of sickly sweet? do you know what i'm sayin? love, Twyla.
from rustybicycle :
hey, do you ever find things in the books? like old bookmarks or notes, et cetera. it is always exciting when i come across those sorts of things.
from megansekiya :
if you still want to do something tomorrow leave me a note or something, i won't be on the computer tonight.
from stevecoffey :
Hey Mike! Can I get those CDs back sometime !
from likeaforest :
also, when are you going to update your journal already, mister?
from likeaforest :
yeah, you can definitely call! also, you know what's kind of TRAGIC is that this weekend my roommates are gone and i have the place to myself!
from likeaforest :
yay! you're alive!
from likeaforest :
sir, that photo is a little WEIRD! why is your friend in the picture all bloody!? also, i am very sorry to tell you that you forgot your asparagus. j.
from withkerth :
hi mike. how busy are you. do you need another $25 gift certificate for Megatunes? plus a whole lot of love and admiration from me? please advise. ps. i saw pictures of you dj-ing with no shirt on, short-shorts and tube socks. so great!
from megansekiya :
i'll murder you when you get back, WRITE LONGER ENTRIES YOU COCKFACE!
from megansekiya :
i'm keeping a diary of all the times i smoke or want to because i'm trying to quit! today i said: a cigarette rolled out of butts fr. the basement, such a buzz, feel like little mikey daines!
from likeaforest :
hey genius, i don't have your number!
from megansekiya :
604.708.4102
from megansekiya :
ATTN: i have to meet you an hour later than i said last night, about quarter after four.
from onemoredub :
Today I work from 6-11, and I'd be delighted if you came in! If it's nice, you should come late, because I bet the gelato shop is nicer at night. I agree about those albums, but they seem to want music that is mostly instrumental and not very intrusive... we'll see! My plan is just to listen to New Order all the time.
from megansekiya :
YEAH! MINIMALLY INTRUSIVE!
from onemoredub :
Dude, are you going to be around at the beginning of June? Here's the thing... if you are, we should plan a ROAD TRIP to Vancouver because MISSION OF BURMA is playing there on the 4th! Jesus I can't imagine how great it would be to see that band!!
from megansekiya :
that poster gives me the creeps! the though of travelling in a covered wagon makes me sick to my stomach i think it would be TERRIBLE.
from likeaforest :
so what you're saying is, you've embraced the poster's trashiness!
from withkerth :
oooh! so awesome! may i have a copy?
from lizbot :
holy shit mike! i'm going to run out of room on my walls!
from janet-nadine :
I knew it was you!
from megansekiya :
YOU CREEP
from lwnpartyrebl :
ditto.
from withkerth :
mike. is the All Ages 80's Dance Party poster yours? fucking brilliant man. we put it up on the bulletin board, not on the front counter. the bulletin board is reserved for extra special things, like that fucking poster. Fantastic idea, as well! xo!
from pennyjane :
yep!
from pennyjane :
i totally hope i see you soon!
from recklings :
you are no annie lennox mike daines!
from recklings :
who is your annie lennox?!!?!
from rustybicycle :
well at least i'm not a fucking lug.
from janet-nadine :
I'll be at the Echobase.
from withkerth :
MIKE! are you there? could you please call me at work as soon as you can? I need a wee bit of help with a project and was wondering if you could assist! 229-3022. also, the new Deerhoof is here - was that you that was looking for it?
from janet-nadine :
Whenever it's good for you. I am available most days after school.
from janet-nadine :
Yes!
from christinam :
My play is Saturday march 6th at eight. 1703-1st NW Info: 276-1657. In case you would like to see.
from stephenbank :
neat!
from stephenbank :
so the Gary Bonds version is better than the sleater kinney version?
from pennyjane :
shit, really?
from onemoredub :
Well, here's the thing. It counts a play as a time where a song finishes. Maybe for some reason you wanted to hear the end of Wait a Minute a lot?
from lizbot :
silkscreen on aluminum foil?! high-five mdaines! that's crafty!
from pennyjane :
thank YOU kisser face.
from likeaforest :
dear sir, i think that the picture of the trio of stomachs is very much in need of some sort of wacky caption.
from likeaforest :
o man. was that just a cheap ploy to use my last name again? so not cool. also,'elect to read amicably' is just about the oddest thing ever.
from pennyjane :
is THAT how you spell podiatrist?
from lizbot :
where did you find good fake tuna?!
from withkerth :
FRIDAY THE 27th at 6:15PM? can you drink then?
from withkerth :
mike - go tomorrow and have a look if you like, I won't be able to talk to you, but if you want, come on Tuesday and we'll be able to do it right then & there! or I could hook you up with a GIFT CERTIFICATE which is also handy! what do you think?
from withkerth :
also - you still haven't told me what CD you want?!
from withkerth :
good morning - i talked to kim at the show - she has class until 1pm, but I have to be at work at 3pm ... so is that rushing things? If you want to collect your debts so bad I could just give you $$ for beer without me???? pal!
from onemoredub :
Also, if you have any blank cds, could you bring one over when you pick me up? There are some songs I'd like to have tonight...
from onemoredub :
Sweet dude! I was TOTALLY worried when I heard that they sold out in MINUTES.
from megansekiya :
one time i told sydney to serve me the tea she thought like, embodied me or something. (it was like lipstick tea! how fabulous!) anyway you should do that too.
from pennyjane :
duder, you can be a tart around me, ANYTIME.
from megansekiya :
i'm thinking about taking this diary business serious could you make a layout for me sometime?
from stevecoffey :
daines! are you at the computer! you go online/offline too quickly!
from withkerth :
i can't tonight, but saturday I'm totally down! see if kim's cool for Saturday!
from withkerth :
MIKE! i am in love with you (not in a creepy way, don't worry!) it's so awesome! what CD do you want & when should we drink beer? just name it. Except for i'm busy Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of this week! awesome! thank you so much! (is kim mad at me?)
from withkerth :
dude! it's awesome - do you still have my password and stuff? or do you even need it? I don't know what needs to happen. i'm pumped. thank you so much!
from withkerth :
UGH! if you can change those stars to Hearts you're the winner! They're both fucking rad though, dude, and I will take you both for beer (do you drink beer?)and you can each pick a CD! Thank you so bad, for real! it's awesome!
from onemoredub :
You know, based on the 2 Au Pairs songs I've heard, they're totally fucking awesome !! God, I am so excited about DJing at this damn show.
from onemoredub :
If I don't hear from you by 4:30, I'll meet you at the show. We should try to be there early, because the show will probably be full by about 6 or 7.
from onemoredub :
Well, we can always go to Kinko's and fix them up... there were only about 60 handbills anyway, and there will probably be TONS of kids at this show. They are only letting about 160 in, but we can certainly handbill outside the show, etc. Anyway, I'm at the Elbom Room right now, so tell me where you are and we can arrange to meet.
from onemoredub :
Will you go to the show tonight? I think watching Knucklehead would be really fun !!
from withkerth :
something pink-ish & unicorn-y... with black and some funny hearts... cheesy, yet cool. You know? should I tell kim that it's ok then. It would be better if you did it because you did my last one etc... you know? and you could just change it all... is that cool?
from withkerth :
I did ask Kim, but she never replied, so I guess she's too busy to. I don't care who does it, I just don't want someone to say they will if they're to busy...but I want SOMEBODY to - it you don't want to (which I gathered from your "i suppose" reply) I can totally ask someone else, so don't worry about it!
from withkerth :
mike. are you too busy to design a new layout for me? Not that I don't love this one, because I do, it's just that it's been over a year...I need a change. If you're too busy, that's cool. I will repay you in the form of Compact Disc(s)... let me know.
from onemoredub :
So, the thing about Joe Sacco is that he's getting fucking better ALL THE TIME. I bought his new book, and it's awful, because I'm all, "oh wow, this picture here would make a great show poster!"
from onemoredub :
The new used one, that is.
from onemoredub :
I should be at the bookstore between 2:45 and 3:00
from likeaforest :
is that a picture of who i think it is? sooo typical!
from megansekiya :
DUDE! FUCKING AWESOME! I'VE DREAMED ABOUT THIS DAY!
from withkerth :
MIKE! that is so great! have you done it? does it cost anything? how long does it take? I can't wait. I had a dream where you had this hilarious balloon, and it was huge, and we were all at a bar, i think it might have been Outlaws, but I can't be sure because I've never been to Outlaws, but i imagined it to be Outlaws, and you were like "EVERYBODY! come outside to watch me launch my balloon" and everybody went outside and you let this balloon go, and that was pretty much all to your part of my dream... I sped off in a white sports car, though...
from janet-nadine :
i'm listening to "let it be" RIGHT NOW!
from recklings :
that is so so strange! also i am SO glad you put this layout up.
from megansekiya :
FUCKED UP, MAN.
from lwnpartyrebl :
god, those two sound like me and erik. yuck.
from recklings :
this new layout you made is WHACK!
from kortnay :
Merry Christmas Mike Daines!
from onemoredub :
Can you bring that shirt to Echo Base tomorrow afternoon? Thanks...
from bratcore :
oh. yeah. i changed it. something about how the buttons weren't there originally, and i didn't really feel like changing them after i had backwards-ed them, and i guess i still don't. thanks, though.
from zakcula :
I don't know if you've heard my show ever, but today I played some Neutral Milk Hotel for you.
from christinam :
How i wish the shows that go to Seattle would come here, Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks played there last weekend sorry for leaving so many notes.
from christinam :
if you're seeing them in Seattle you're seeing cat power too :)http://www.sleater-kinney.net/Templates/news.html LUCKY! have fun
from christinam :
are Sleater-Kinney touring with cat power? where are you seeing them?
from christinam :
is that neutral milk hotel?
from likeaforest :
?!?! how in the world did you find this page! you are a magician! ...unless you were given the link, which would perhaps make a bit more sense. o, i can't believe it's a livejournal! that nearly makes me want to cry. as does the fact that i have to write a paper rather than sit here and read it all day. hmph. ps. o man. i cannot believe you used my last name.
from onemoredub :
You know, I should have seen PW on that tour. Luckily I have a recording of the show in Toronto... the crowd really likes "I'll Be You" I think, because there is a line about CANADA in it.
from zakcula :
Good idea. I think quizilla is taken but you should do that. I just came up with a million dollar idea the other day, I let you know what happens.
from withkerth :
i put together the Boxing Day Box, and it's so cute, man! i strung it up and hung it at the front desk, and it looks so awesome. you are the smartest guy in the world.
from quiettown :
...huh?
from spoonbender :
i want to be friends again
from quiettown :
Okay, somebody's been spending way too much time on allmusic.com.
from lwnpartyrebl :
it is indeed about invitations! i'm not done school untill four today, i have a ten minute break at 2:50 during which i'll be hanging out near that metal spining thing. i'll drop by cjsw before i leave at 4 just in case. i guess i'm just a little insecure about internet communications right now....i like to see people.
from a177 :
detatched?
from lwnpartyrebl :
hey! i have a interesting question to ask you. will you be at cjsw at any specific time this week?
from dancecraze :
Not "stately" in an unapprochable way, right? ;)
from kboyer :
Yeah, those are all just fake diaryland accounts I use to impress girls.
from papereyes :
thank you.
from kboyer :
Mike those look just terrific.
from withkerth :
shit dude. whoever thought of that fucking JBK thing is a fucking genious. I applaud whoever came up with that. great work!
from withkerth :
hey Friendster! just add me - my email addess is [email protected]! i can't wait to leave you a testimonial! wicked.
from onemoredub :
If you're at school tomorrow mdaines, you should look at the door to CJSW for an AWESOME Veal poster. I think it's by the person who you first saw that did silkscreening on brown paper...
from likeaforest :
gah! max beckmann. now i do feel silly. they had a special room dedicated to his work at the st. louis art museum that i used to spend lots of time lingering in. so nice.
from pennyjane :
what? is she coming?
from likeaforest :
i saw cat power once, a couple years ago. well, i didn't literally see her, as the stage was rushed by crazed smith girls as soon as she came out, so i was forced to just sit there and listen without once catching a glimpse, which, as you might imagine, made for a rather odd show. also...who is that painting by? i really feel like i should know this, but i can't quite put my finger on it...
from onemoredub :
My favourite one with Nate is where he's all, "Speaking of inalienable rights..."
from recklings :
daines, i don't have school on tuesday.. do you?
from onemoredub :
Lord how I hate leaving messages to myself. Phone me around 10 or so to let me know what's going on.
from onemoredub :
Shawn can't come tomorrow. What time do you want to leave at? I figure you can just pick me up at my house, because it's on the way south.
from nessus :
I was wondering how much it would cost for 4 patches, and one t-shirt (white, with black design on the front). All patches black and white. The pathes are the Atari Teenage Riot logo, the Digial Hardcore logo, the Einstrzende Neubauten logo, and the symbol of The Process Church Of The Final Judgement (also the symol I'd like on the t-shirt). I have high resolution .jpgs of all of the images, unfortunately I do not have the hard copy versions. If need be I can print them out.
from nessus :
Can you silk screen t-shirts?
from onemoredub :
These were on Calgary punk for the mac version of soulseek. http://members.cox.net/akbackup/ http://www.sensi.org/~ak/pyslsk/ http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macos/20985 http://decorum.i8.com/
from onemoredub :
Yes I think we ought to. Which day is best for you? If we went on Sunday, would we be back in time for JBK?
from janet-nadine :
that's super cool.
from likeaforest :
drats. you've foiled my plan! consider the mixtape a work in progress (although admittedly, a bit of a slow one, since i've been going around promising mixtapes at the drop of a hat lately.) but yes! a mixtape. if you have any strong preferences, please let me know. otherwise i'll assume that it's quite alright to fill both sides with as much lame-o emo stuff as i can fit. wee.
from zakcula :
Holy crap that's a fantastic dream. You should definately call your new computer Cher and maybe give it a wig.
from likeaforest :
!!!! kangaroo gloves!
from aves :
Did you design that DOA poster in my store? Will you show me how to do that?
from lizbot :
that's the best ebay auction i've ever seen.
from megansekiya :
i think getting ridiculousy drunk in some ridiculous place/wandering is a good sort of idea. i'll call you after school i think i've got your number somewhere.
from megansekiya :
i have no costume either because cold and a fucking foot of snow are not conducive to pumps/tights/miniskirts et cetera.
from megansekiya :
WHEN?! WHERE?!
from withkerth :
yeah, when Flea played the trumped last night I felt really bad. I hated it.
from stevecoffey :
communication on the internet you know

from stevecoffey :
do you use msn or icq or aim or of that
from dancecraze :
Haha, I read "RIVR BTTM" as "RAVR BTTM" and thought, "He has a raver bottom? What's that?"
from withkerth :
dude! they look awesome! SHIT FACE would be funny.
from likeaforest :
oo, and suddenly i'm feeling terribly crestfallen about living in a place too warm to wear gloves that say KANG AROO.
from onemoredub :
Also, how fucking intense is a knife to the heart?
from onemoredub :
Actually, I'm pretty sure I've read that story before.
from onemoredub :
Will you be at the show on Thursday to sell posters? Doonesbury is very good sometimes, I think.
from withkerth :
mike! thanks again! that was awesome! i think you should totally set up a booth selling those little gloves. you could call them "dainty daines"... !!
from sarus :
umm...best idea ever. -sp
from lizbot :
mike! i think you took my gloves! it's ok though, i have yours, we can trade on thursday or something.
from a177 :
There's two versions?
from withkerth :
dude! perfect. is there any cd's that you've been wanting lately? just wondering... also. should I do anything to prepare? like prepare the screen or anything? will you bring your lightbulb? are you allergic to cats?
from withkerth :
ok...i don't work on Monday - but I have swimming class from 6 - 9... what time are you done your stuff on Monday? or maybe we could go for Tuesday because I only work until 6?
from a177 :
I quoted "Can't Hardly Wait" last night in my diary; but then after taking your quiz I realized I was "Bastards of Young." Thanks for setting me straight, Michael Daines!
from withkerth :
hey - do i need to prepare anything, like 24 hours in advance or anything? do i need a special lightbulb? can you call me when you have time? 283-1434 or at work 229-3022! dude! thanks!
from withkerth :
hi! ok! whenever you have time I would love to have your help! call me, and we'll talk about it! 283-1434. Good luck with your school stuff! i'm excited about this! you're the reason i even want to try silkscreening, you know?
from withkerth :
mike. we must make a date. I have a silk screen thing, with all the supplies, i just don't know how to do it! will you teach me?!
from janet-nadine :
i have about one hundred in my kitchen.
from onemoredub :
Meet you at 3 in the CJSW offices?
from dancecraze :
Thanks! That older.html problem was exactly what you said it was.

The thing is that Bill Graham can put on ANY SHOW he wants. Christ.
from onemoredub :
For the DOA poster, you should use the picture of Ronald Reagan from that Joe Sacco book I lent you...
from bottleup :
The Mac Plus came with 1MB stock memory, expandable to 4MB. There was no internal HD, but it was the first to have a SCSI port. I think our Mac Plus had a 40MB external HD that was roughly 18x4x12" tall. The original 128k and 512k 'Fat Mac' had, respectively 128k and 512k memory and only a FDD... so, either 700kb or 1.4Mb storage-- I don't remember when double sided floppys came into common usage. So old school, I have a hard time remembering all this. The Macintosh II was the first to have a HD included, it was 40-80MB. Max ram was 20MB. This was in 1987... I'd be interested in seeing that chart, too.
from lwnpartyrebl :
also: nice boots
from lwnpartyrebl :
written on my knuckles: lil' jinx thanks for the posters mike, they are great. best way to remeber a show with nakatomi plaza...
from withkerth :
so great! are you mad to know that I brought the poster home and put up here instead of at the store? I HAD to, because everyone wanted it, and if i didn't steal it right then, I would have never got it! sorry, but it had to be done!
from withkerth :
mike! i am looking at the nicest poster i've ever seen - are you responsible for it? Nakatomi Plaza? dude, if it was you, I applaud you! you're brilliant!
from withkerth :
EMERALD GREEN COWBOY BOOTS?! even though I've never seen them, I am already insanely jealous! good work!
from kboyer :
My chance for diaryland infamy foiled by google. How typical.
from lizbot :
are you going to the night gallery this tuesday?
from christinam :
:)
from kboyer :
I use the term only because the room I'm in in decidedly art-deco and the apparition seems to make constant appearenes along the walls. Probabily the wrong connotation, but oh well.
from kortnay :
Heya. Hrrrmmm... could I email you some sort of design? Do you know if it could be ready by the 10th?
from pennyjane :
i expect you at the game on saturday at 12:30. no excuses mr.
from dancecraze :
Oh, haha. Drunk notes are fun!
from withkerth :
good morning - hey! where do you get the ink for your silk screens? mona lisa? i want to make panties with these little linocuts and i imagine i'd just use the same ink as silk screening? wouldn't I?
from dancecraze :
Derrr. "Why" I've added you, not "if".
from dancecraze :
Oh, you know Danielle? That's pretty cool. Calgary's a pretty small world, huh? But about if you've met me: I still have no idea. I hope I haven't forgotten about it if I have! I'm not sure what you meant by "what gives?". If you're wondering if I've added you to my list of favourite journals, it's not because I know you, it's because I randomly found your journal and liked it a lot.
from kortnay :
Hey you. What would I have to do to maybe get you to make patches for Joule?
from whenyouare :
I go to school in the day, so that works conveniently... I shall have to get back to you on this, though.
from whenyouare :
That sounds like it would be nice. My schedule is crazy right now, though, this will have to be planned carefully!
from whenyouare :
Thankya, sir.
from zakcula :
Oh man. I'm a total wierdo. Sorry about that.
from onemoredub :
So there's this new Woody Allen movie out today, and it seems like it would be good... the only problem is that DIANA KRALL is in it at some point.
from zakcula :
I think you are a very smart young lad. I'm not so old myself, but it's nice to tell some other young guy that's he's smart. Maybe we could kill some women some time, or least cause lots of blood loss. Or no, let's be nice guys who get fucked over lots, but we'll play Golden Tee at Melrose lots. Great.
from whenyouare :
Sorry for the abrupt termination of our conversation yesterday, the computer seized for the 5th or so time that night and I didn't want to bother restarting/connecting/logging on etc. Send me an email or a note when I can pick up some patches! Prices would be nice, as well.
from zamblam :
AweXome... also I need to ask another favor: you wouldn't happen to have Dave McAffrey's phone number would you?
from onemoredub :
Yeah, that song's really strange... Do you still have that Otis Redding patch you made? I'd sort of prefer that to a shirt, so that I can put it on the back of a black hoodie. It'll be my Memphis hoodie, since Big Star will go on the front...
from dancecraze :
Hm, I don't think you have.
from whenyouare :
I have patience, if I need to wait for more to be printed....
from whenyouare :
How might I go about obtaining a patch?
from recklings :
you gotta make a patti smith t-shirt for my b-day!
from kortnay :
You're a talented boy Mr. I like them alot. I even saw an adorable indie rock girl wearing a modest mouse patch that you made.. and I got all excited.
from likeaforest :
a boy who can sew handbags?? can we get married?
from zamblam :
http://www.aestheticapparatus.com/images/posters/lg/watt_lg.jpg - Unless you dont think it would transfer well onto a patch.
from lwnpartyrebl :
come to my party.
from zamblam :
Duder, Mike Watt and the Secondmen are lined up to play with Red hot Chilli peppers on OCt.27 at the saddledome. Unfortunately the date has yet to be confirmed..but it's on the red hot's site... So I'm pumped like ninjas on fire.
from onemoredub :
When are you at school? Maybe we can eat lunch together sometime, Michael Daines.
from withkerth :
oh shit... i think you're so great! i always think i see you driving, but it's never you.
from recklings :
i have of course heard this band and that song in particular! i asked because i listen to it quite often and thought i might have. anyways the new layout is pretty rad, dude. and april march are a good band.
from stevecoffey :
The Hell's Devils
from recklings :
did i put NMH on your tape? also, it would be awesome if you went to SAIT, i <3 my school.
from stevecoffey :
How's the silkscreening business?
from likeaforest :
ps. incidentally, its awfully nice to see that you decided against forsaking all your fellow diarylanders and are continuing to update after all.
from likeaforest :
o man. "another" diaryland weirdo? i feel so terribly run of the mill.
from rustybicycle :
would it be possible to get my camera back within the next few days? we could plan to meet somewhere.
from zakcula :
Well then good to see you. All I can really say is: ug.
from megansekiya :
oh god thank you! (i'm back back back and unemployed so when do you want to hang out? what are you up to? i'll see you friday probably for sure at shawn's?)
from zakcula :
Hi. Nice to see you. I think I saw you last night! Hahahahahaha.
from withkerth :
why do you say you were a total sketchcase? i thought it was funny because you and me were the only ones laughing at the weird things everone was saying... Like when veronica was talking about "american wedding" and she said "they're all good jokes!" and we were like "what?"
from hoopla1975 :
please call me at work so I can explain the machine. 220-2697 HAVE FUN!!
from whenyouare :
I'm assuming that "tomorrow" means "sunday" this time. And that'll be okay, unless you mean "saturday", in which case our plans are falling through almost as we speak!
from whenyouare :
Tomorrow? Is that Friday? Saturday?
from whenyouare :
2286868 Saturday to Monday.
from zakcula :
I love it. Thank you. What's next?
from recklings :
i will scan them and e-mail them today.
from zakcula :
Great. If you don't drink then I can barter something else. Also, good work on Holly's page.
from recklings :
i would like to discuss a patch from oz illustrations. i got an awesome colour photo book.. with really good pictures of scarecrow, tin man and tik-tok [the robot or whatever].
from whenyouare :
Choose a time and a place, I'll be there. Well, within the next two weeks.
from hoopla1975 :
man oh man I did what you said and it's just getting worst
from pennyjane :
make barretes! wow, i've never spelt that word.
from zakcula :
Hi there. I dont' know if you like to do these templates, but if you do I am wondering if you could make a cartoony monster scarey template for zakcula. I have some talents and we could barter something. I make a damn good mix CD, but I also can buy someone some good beer, and there are other things.
from hoopla1975 :
I will be at the roasterie at 4:30pm. if you are around come down.
from hoopla1975 :
false alarm! it's up and looks great!
from hoopla1975 :
Hey Mike, I think the template looks AWESOME, but can you please check it out. I copied the code and pasted into diaryland and it is coming up really screwy. Thanks for all your help and let me know about those buttons! Holly
from whenyouare :
Obviously, this is an unfortunate occurance that must soon be remedied. By going for coffee, perhaps?
from whenyouare :
Believe me, I'm more to blame for an unspectacular conversation... I don't think I could have asked worse questions. They were robot questions. I walked away thinking, "What in hell did I just do..."
from lwnpartyrebl :
i'm not unemployed! i work at a tea store and i sell renovations. and i'm a student. but anyway, yes. please come to my house. P.S. at U.E.S. i was in center. what(house?) were you in? and do you know about steve coffey? i think you were in east, i'm not sure. maybe steve was in south?
from janet-nadine :
that's what i figured.
from onemoredub :
I'd like to see you, Michael Daines. Also, who do you talk to about getting a job at the library?
from hyperballadd :
all my life, waiting for somebody.. ahhhahhaahaa... oohhh yeah!
from janet-nadine :
is it possible that kyle cheadle's birthday is the 23rd of september? because if it is, he has the same birthday as ray charles, bruce springsteen, and john coltrane.
from hoopla1975 :
Maybe we could do a trade. I have a button machine for the next month. You can send me images and I can make buttons up for you and leave them at the roast. My e-mail is [email protected].
from hoopla1975 :
Thanks Mike! I really like anything from www.obeygiant.com or fifties pin up girls. What program do you create it in? I know HTML and how to use dreamweaver, but they won't let me upload jpegs.
from withkerth :
how about just 15 for now?
from jforester :
i don't know mike. i think you might have been correct. do you have msn?
from hoopla1975 :
Hi Mike, Twyla said I should e-mail you about getting a better template. Can you help me? Thanks, Holly
from withkerth :
hey! you should have just called up to me! i'm never too busy to come down and talk to you, mikey! i'm there tomorrow 10 - 6, too! the patches - how many did you make? and Pat can only afford to give you $730. he can postdate a cheque for another $560 for the middle of August, but that's all. Let me know if that will be ok. (i'm just kidding, by the way, he can't afford that much! wouldn't that be funny though??)
from likeaforest :
i understand about your wariness toward ms. dickinson; there is a bit of a sad girl mystique around her that can leave a somewhat unpleasant aftertaste. but a patch would be lovely! although i've been looking at my clothes all day and nothing has jumped out at me as lending itself to being patched. hm. and incidentally, "baltimore" may sound melodious to far away ears, but don't be fooled. i've seen it many a time with my own two eyes, and i can tell you first hand that it ain't much to look at.
from janet-nadine :
when is your birthday, mike?
from rustybicycle :
hey mike. i have been thinking that we should combine our many skills and start some sort of business. more specifically, a clothing/accessory business perhaps? heh. let me know what you think.
from jforester :
am i really a charlatan?
from likeaforest :
i like that there's question marks after my possible occupations, it makes me feel all mysterious! good guesses each -- i am one, and soon to be the other. also, i'm terribly envious of your emily dickinson shirt; if only more of my own clothes were inspired by dead poets, perhaps i'd be much better dressed.
from megansekiya :
i want it! and also to see you.
from recklings :
no i used the other program, uleadphotoimpact. basically, i index coloured the image, and bitmaped the original then selected only the black and put it on top of the indexed colour.. it was actually a lot of steps but that is it simply. i havn't done it on photoshop so i don't know how well it will work.
from recklings :
didn't use photoshop
from recklings :
tip me.
from recklings :
i actually thought it was excellent because you were referring to world/inferno and that's so cool to me.
from jforester :
good day, mike.
from kortnay :
You're getting good! I'm imperssed.
from rustybicycle :
so, incase you need to contact me today for reasons such as "i can't find the building", you can do so by dialing 803-7074.
from withkerth :
mike daines! that looks great! so awesome! great work! you're such a talented young man! so, again, what do you charge, and i'll tell pat, and then i'll tell you how many to make? Is that right? cool? what? let me know! it's awesome!
from janet-nadine :
i was actually only in vancouver for two days and a night. i'm in kelowna right now. ick.
from rustybicycle :
no, but i frequently spot engineers on the c-train. for some reason, i am very good at scoping them out. and that is NOT a joke.
from rustybicycle :
jesus, mike. you are so right. boy, do i ever feel stupid. anyway, thanks for the suggestions.
from megansekiya :
eau claire! also: i'm pissed off about the email because it was longish and good. i'm clearly not coming to the stampede breakfast because it is one o'clock already and i am way up in the suburbs with no transportation whatsoever. i'll see you at the show though.
from megansekiya :
dude i wrote you an email and sent it twice! do you want to hang out tomorrow? im working at the ice cream place from 11 till seven or so. call my house?
from pennyjane :
Yay!!
from a177 :
Yeah, it's called "Bad Grammar." No but just kidding. I think what you are speaking of- "he died for a kiss me quick" - is a form of a zeugma. A zeugma would be, "She stole his heart and his wallet" for example. What you are saying is just changing the location of the subject in the sentence. So I think it could be a form of zeugma. It IS improper grammar, though.
from love-monika :
I hope you have a good summer and see you in two months.
from megansekiya :
o.k., i might be going camping thursday-saturday and i'm going to find out tomorrow about this. so IF NOT how about the end of the week? i'm so excited about all the talking that'll happen! p.s. do you want to get insanely drunk sometime this week?
from zamblam :
I'll get back to you on that ASAP.
from recklings :
you have told me this before but it is a very big hassle to take and return it and you said you would need to get permission and that you would need it back in a few weeks so i would rather not go through the ordeal for like a week with an ok monitor just to be pissed off when it is gone. if you assure me it isn't a hassle, then i will take it because i actually could just get this website done and then have books to read and wouldn't be such a big deal. sorry, call me about it please.
from withkerth :
i'm scared to go into Junkstar Vintage! i don't know why, but I don't think i'll ever go there. is it scary there?
from withkerth :
i must say i've really been enjoying this "trashy" new way that you've been writing your diary! what are the patches of that you make? the Minks? if they're Minks patches can I have one? buy one?
from megansekiya :
hey bro do you wanna hang out? YES? YOU DO? OKAY WHEN? p.s. i have every intention of following through with the summer kick-off plan, maybe next week?
from spoonbender :
wax mannequin Wed. 18th at I've Read That bookstore with Cities and Plains. $5, doors at 6 pm.
from onemoredub :
Well, you might be better off trying to find the LP version somewhere, because it would be a lot easier to work with...
from onemoredub :
I think I will go to the game tomorrow anyway. I dunno, still might be able to play. Really I'm not sure if you can make a good t-shirt with the photos on the liner notes. I'll bring it anyway though. See you tomorrow!
from withkerth :
oh, & here's MY contact info for whenever you want to go for that beer! 283-1434.
from withkerth :
hello! yes, we should definately grab a beer "after work" one day... ok! thanks for the info, yo.
from withkerth :
mike! hi! how are you! i have gathered information about the double helix, but i don't really think it's all that outstanding. I'll tell you what I know later. I need to know if you know contacts (phone numbers) for those darling Minks? I've got a show that i would enjoy them to play. xo Twyla
from nessus :
I'll certainly lend you the CDs if you want, the only reason I mention the scanning is because I scanned them I was able to enlarge them. As they appear on the CDs they are very small and I don't know if they'd be enough to work with to make a patch from.
from onemoredub :
Unsure at this point... you should bring your car to Shawn's just in case.
from onemoredub :
Are you driving?
from onemoredub :
Will you come to Edmonton with Minks patches? Please do! Also, I remembered that it was your birthday at some point today, but forgot to do anything about that. How does it feel to be 20 years old? You were totally born 11 days after Speaking in Tongues came out!!
from nessus :
ATR does have a logo, and I've scanned it and the DHR and Einstrzende Neubauten logos. I'm not sure what process you use to transpose the images, but I have some source files in any event. If you need me to upload them to my webspace I can. Also, I wouldn't mind making a JBK patch.
from lwnpartyrebl :
p.s. happy birthday!
from lwnpartyrebl :
for silkscreening: be very careful if you are using fabric paint. it is hard to determine which types will RUIN silk screens and which will not. do you have a dark room?
from nessus :
I was kind of thinking of asking you to help me make an Atari Teenage Riot patch among other things.
from onemoredub :
Also, yes, that was Wire.
from onemoredub :
The thing about Perfect is that the album "7 Days A Week" was never released! I got it from the INTERNET. Maybe I can make you a tape or something. It seems very short.
from onemoredub :
You should listen to my show today, because I will play a song by Perfect, a band that Tommy Stinson started up after the Mats.
from sarus :
ok, so the mdaines patch, you don't have to worry about it until end of july/early august when i come back. -sp
from stevecoffey :
You're so good at making patches!
from onemoredub :
So Ted Rall obviously likes Saul Steinberg: http://www.ucomics.com/rallcom/2003/06/05/
from nessus :
Lately a lot of people seem to be lying to complete strangers, fabricating these unbelievable stories. Now I sorta wanna do that. Maybe at whatever job I end up at next.
from recklings :
it's quarter to THREE mike!
from kboyer :
At first I didn't see the split between good and bad points of the New Yorker so I thought you were mocking Steve Martin (I can't help but like him). I don't mind some of the short stories in the New Yorker but whenever I read it I just feel my time could be better spent going over back issues of Harpers or reading a book. There's just so much crap that I don't really want to hear about. I don't care what's going on in New York for the most part, and I've really stopped caring about the effects of 9/11.
from rustybicycle :
what do you mean which one?
from rustybicycle :
ps. you could also show me that silkscreen? (tee-hee)
from rustybicycle :
here's the thing. tonight i have to study for a big final oral presentation in spanish, and tomorrow i am supposed to go out with my dad to see the kids at outdoor ed. soo.. perhaps you should do the first bit (ie. getting the dandelions), and maybe we could get together on friday for the rest? let me know.
from recklings :
i want an SK one please!
from stevecoffey :
You're AWESOME
from onemoredub :
I have a good Otis Redding picture that I should get you to make me a t-shirt with. It is blown up a lot, so it has that look... but I still like it. Also, we should make a JBK show poster based on the following model: http://www.radiolondon.co.uk/rl/scrap60/fabforty/march67/march6704/flier.jpg
from onemoredub :
We should busk on Friday or something.
from rustybicycle :
provided that bicycling is still an activity that you enjoy doing, we should go sometime this weekend.
from megansekiya :
i really should have gone to the show last night because i really miss you boys (by you boys i really mean everyone outside my three friends and people who live in my house) and i would like to do something, yes. anytime after june fourth i am absolutely not restricted by anything, in terms of obligations. and that's really a very exciting thing.
from rustybicycle :
what a nice thing to say! it's a shame we didn't.
from withkerth :
yes, i think i will be at the Minks show! i'll see you there. did we ever discuss how you felt about the Modest Mouse show? Also, what do you know about the Double Helix?
from onemoredub :
If you are concerned with the state of media today, you should help Mark and I when we start up our news radio show.
from kboyer :
Thanks for dropping the money off.
from onemoredub :
This is one of my favourite entries of yours, Mike. Sometimes I have troubles deciding who I like better between The Clash and The Replacements, but really it's probably The Clash. I think The Mats stopped believing in themselves by the end, which is why they starting trying to write more commercial music which diluted what they did best. The Clash also started to write more commercial music, but it seemed as though it was in line with their own musical interests, and they were still very creative in the process. Not sure how Combat Rock could be seen as a "sellout" album... listen to Ghetto Defendent, Sean Flynn, or to a lesser extent, Red Angel Dragnet for christ's sake!! Besides, The Mats never had the initiative to put out a triple LP. That said, Alex Chilton is a fucking good song.
from megansekiya :
totally sprained my ankle last night at basketball, might be a fracture somewhere. i swear i was coming to soccer on saturday, but it could be a while now.
from onemoredub :
Maybe I should get VERY DRUNK on Saturday and say that... I guess that would be hilarious!
from lwnpartyrebl :
please mike, come with me! my grad is the day before, so the timing is pretty good. i can sleep on the way there, however i choose to get there...i think i will go regardless so isn't that a good reason to join me?
from guerillarock :
Could you make a heading for email as well? People might not be subscribed to diaryland and still want to make requests. The email is [email protected]
from kboyer :
Well it's comforting to know at least my vocal range wasn't at fault.
from guerillarock :
Thanks dude !! If you listen on Wednesday, maybe I'll play you a song. You should pick one...
from onemoredub :
Well, we're playing this show in Edmonton, as part of some festival in June. Some dude wants our album cover to go with the program guide I guess... just email it to me.
from recklings :
the thing with that is i really don't see you often and i am worried i would not see you in time to get the camera back to you.
from onemoredub :
Durr, message in my notes... One more unrelated thing, do you have a decent sized jpeg of our album cover?
from onemoredub :
Oh, and the show is called Guerilla Welfare.
from onemoredub :
Perhaps you could design a logo for our show or something. There is a red/black scheme there, based on my limited knowledge of html. Something with these colours would probably work... heh
from guerillarock :
How would you feel about making a template for our radio show? (Pascal + Lisa)
from megansekiya :
1/i'm thinking about doing that in a very serious way. right now im playing basketball but it will be over in about two weeks. i think it is something i should do, but i just saw my notes and i think today it is too late (it's also snowy). 2/yes, sir.
from onemoredub :
I have a Jack Lee song called "Sex", and it's fucking punk rock.
from kboyer :
Tried to get your attention from across fourth street today. No luck.
from onemoredub :
But I certainly do have Mats bootlegs! What a good live band...
from onemoredub :
If I had money...
from onemoredub :
One day, one of us should buy this, http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2527473454&category=25893 and burn it for the other...
from punos :
Thanks for the writing, Stan.
from withkerth :
mike - last time i was at work we had no modest mouse tickets left, but i'll check today, we might have got some more - i'll keep you updated...if we do have some, i'll get you one for sure!!
from withkerth :
did you come and pick Bonnie Prince Billy, or is that another Mike?
from themark-up :
AWESOME=MIKE DAINES you're definitely for good.
from withkerth :
you can go and pick one out even when i'm not there, and then just tell whoever is working "um...can you hold this for me please? my name is mike - i'll pick it up tomorrow" and then leave me a note and tell me which one you put on hold, and i'll buy it and bring it home for you! good idea, no?!
from stevecoffey :
Yeah!!!
from withkerth :
duuuuuddde! i love you! thank you so much! i still haven't paid you - is there a certain cd that you want really bad but just haven't had the money to buy? let let me know... and also, thanks for taking the note with my password off! that was some sharp thinking! you're so awesome. think hard for some cd that you really want! tell me!
from kboyer :
Thanks.
from stevecoffey :
It's funny how I live a block away from you!
from withkerth :
mike. i screwed shit up. i don't know how. how do i fix it, man? look at my diary. it's a template that i wanted for a different diary i was setting up, but somehow it went to withkerth... ugh.
from onemoredub :
Next time I see you, remind me to bring Marvin Gaye's "What's Going On". I think we should learn some of the better songs on that album for busking. You could improvise with Marvin Gaye's melodies, and I would do the same with James Jamerson's basslines.
from onemoredub :
What are your favourite songs on that tape?
from sarus :
yeah. for sure mike. i was planning on letting everyone know when i had it all worked out. -sp
from sarus :
I don't have the info yet. i couldn't get my id this week. i am trying for next week. i need recent id, and all i have is a grade 8 id. eep. -sp
from withkerth :
i DO worry about being too sensitive. i can't help it. i worry about E V E R Y T H I N G. it's becoming a problem.
from nowait :

from newell :
and there's an essay behind it all to say: an antagonistic relationship between us would be really funny, if only because it would be irrational on both sides.
from janet-nadine :
you sir, can sing.
from onemoredub :
I don't have a license for that or anything, but maybe that's still a good idea. Please visit my home on Friday night, unsure of the time at this point.
from yellohorange :
i want to put you in a jar. but you know not in a creepy way or anything. I swear.
from onemoredub :
Well I'm done school at noon that day... if you're in later than that, we should have lunch or something. Not too late though, because I have this paper to work on, etc.
from onemoredub :
Tell me when, and I'll do what I can...
from onemoredub :
How was Watt??
from recklings :
hmm, i would like any zine you would like to buy. and if you find any good records at all especially robocop kraus, the ark or world/inferno because yeah! i hope you're have a good time.
from recklings :
i had a dream last night that you didn't go to vancouver and that spent the money on ear peircigs instead.
from kboyer :
Thanks Mike?
from janet-nadine :
sue me!
from onemoredub :
Also, I'm sure careless in leaving notes (re: in my own notes section...)
from onemoredub :
It would sure be awesome to see mwatt, but I think I have previous commitments this weekend...
from christinam :
perhaps if you could give me a call later that would be the greatest 2818580...
from christinam :
i love that book!
from onemoredub :
I forgot to ask, which Nerves song would you rather have on a mixtape?
from onemoredub :
I think I'll make you a mixtape, Michael Daines.
from rustybicycle :
why on earth were you expecting a lion eating a snake? i thought a man covering his head was a good representation of "no! wait!" my attempt at making things seem less awkward was when i said, "i don't really mind not talking. the silence is kind of nice." ha-ha.
from rustybicycle :
let's pretend that thursday night wasn't as awkward as it was.
from janet-nadine :
verily.
from janet-nadine :
you are fascinating.
from faunawolf :
Do you still have ICQ? My new name is smate.
from lwnpartyrebl :
i wanna go on a trip soon too.
from themark-up :
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
from janet-nadine :
my body totally hurt too.
from bratcore :
ouch, mike. ouch.
from punos :
i'm a short lived (24 hours) acquaintance of a friend of yours that was introduced to me (3 summers ago) through another acquaintance who became my girlfriend. but i've never met you before, i just like your writing and share some similar surface interests in music etc. all in all, the thought of why/how i got to be here writing this leaves me feeling a bit odd.
from pennyjane :
Oh you didn't, approppriately. It was a figure of speech i suppose. A bad one i guess.
from bratcore :
just so you know.. the last entry's last line was a joke. don't murder me, please.
from a177 :
You know you don't need to talk about it to anyone to make it valid, right? I mean I read that last entry and really respected it. I could listen to you talk about code for a while I think, but I couldn't say anything back. But it was kind of inspiring about code because it strikes me as a type of psychology. So keep talking, I actually want you to. Maybe you should explain the code more. Or show me what it does. Because I kind of don't get it still.
from pennyjane :
you were screaming it! how could i not.
from pennyjane :
i know. know, i know. i know, no i know. gosh i'm so glad i ran right into you even pretended to kick you.
from pennyjane :
you will. you will. you, will, will you? will you, you will.
from a177 :
so whats with the code then
from themark-up :
OH FUCK! my real address is 102 Birch Drive Apt 321 762 8598 that's my mailing address...darn it all
from themark-up :
Mark Black/PO BOX 382/BANFF, AB/T1L 1A5....are you sending me a bill?
from bratcore :
only one of them makes my mother angry. and since when would anyone want steve & i to get back together?
from bratcore :
or, kissed a bit could just mean kissed a bit.
from onemoredub :
Is Don't Tell A Soul an infinite album because some of the songs just seem to drag on forever?
from lwnpartyrebl :
hi mike.
from aves :
Hey! I don't mind paying you in cd's, but I also understand that cold, hard cash is really good too. If you wanted cd's, I could buy 3 for you, which works out to be around 30 dollars. This would be absolutely no problem. Either way, I'm happy if you're happy. Why don't you come in this Sunday when it won't be too busy and I can help you find some good stuff (I may have some Replacements kicking around) or I can give you a cheque. Whoo!
from kboyer :
"He's thirty-eight years old, never kissed a girl"
from aves :
Hey! I just saw my new diary! Thanks so much for the great design!!Did you come by on Friday? I tried to wait around but I was sick and had to go home. Sorry if I missed you. Send me an email or leave me a note and we'll get stuff figured out. Thanks again.
from aves :
Word up. Hey. Guess what. I don't have any cheques yet. I guess I'll have to go on Friday to my "home" branch. Mark my words, though, you will be paid. So yeah. Don't come in on Wednesday (unless, of course, you want to! I mean, maybe you might want to look at cd's or something. This I don't know)because I won't have any of the bling or ching or whatever, you know?
from withkerth :
holy balls. that is the raddest thing I've ever seen. you are brilliant, my dear - just brilliant.
from kortnay :
Holy fuck that is cool.
from themark-up :
FORGET IT!!!!! JERK I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU TOLD ADAM SEABOURNE THAT I'M A BAD KISSER...
from themark-up :
I miss you so much. Please call me or log on to msn soon, please....
from themark-up :
WE ARE BREAKING UP. WE'RE THROUGH!!!! THSI TIME FOR REALS
from themark-up :
I can't do this anymore, I really can't. I don't know what's going on anymore, but I know I can't luv you right now, it's just not right. I'm sorry, this is just too much, we have to break up.
from themark-up :
YOU BASTARD! i can't belief you told everyone that, fuck, I should have never trusted you, call me
from themark-up :
You're right, this is silly to fight over, let's never fight again. I'll stop by your house after school. I luv you too much.
from themark-up :
I'm sorry about the fight last night, I just don't know if that's what I want. Im sorry so sorry, we need to talk.
from themark-up :
You're terrific (I got the letter you sent), I'll see you at the dance tonight.
from themark-up :
I luv you so much, things are so great, my little muffin man! I hope this never ends. I'll call you tonight, but if I don't call by 9:45, don't be mad, just call me, it means my sister is on the phone, but she'll get off if you beep in.
from themark-up :
I was wondering if there's a chance you'd go out with me, I've liked you for a while, since 8th grade really, and I guess I've only gotten the courage to do this now, but will you go out with me?
from aves :
Hey! That's so great! I totally wasn't expecting this! Anyway, I do work at the T'wax. You can drop by either Sunday or Wednesdays as I usually work by myself. If you want, we could work out a trade for some cd's. Cash is cool too. Whatever. We shall discuss.
from aves :
Hey, you know that layout you did? The one with the computer chip type things? Can I have that? That may seem a little forward/obnoxious, but I am of the belief that I could probably get more things if I just came out and asked. Oh, and another thing...I stumbled upon your diary through Freemanson's profile, and I just wanted to say that it is good. A good diary, and a good layout.
from janet-nadine :
not this september but the one afterwards.
from kortnay :
Mike - I love that layout.
from bratcore :
mike- sometimes i wish that i dreamt about you more, or remembered them when i did, because i feel like i'm a bad person for not reciprocating.
from onemoredub :
So I left you a note, but being clueless, did so in my OWN notes section. Forgive me, Michael Daines.
from christinam :
we are due to hang out.
from christinam :
I'm in town right now and for the next few weeks, give me a call.
from stevecoffey :
Didja scan them pictures?
from onemoredub :
Why don't you get a haircut sister?
from bratcore :
+ i remember one time, you said that i had a talent for BELIEVING IN THINGS. and i'm not sure why, but i don't think i'll ever forget you having said that to me. i can't say that i'm sure how to take it, but you know.
from bratcore :
crazy shit, dude.
from withkerth :
hey mike - what are the chances of major danger playing at My First Moustache Productions first birthday party? do you know? can you help a girl out?
from stevecoffey :
Mike did you scan those pictures ?!
from stephenbank :
Right, it gave it the feeling that there was something special about the message (sarcasm in this case). I was planning on alphabetizing my buddy list, but I realized I had missed two people and didn't want to put in the effort to start over.
from stevecoffey :
Mike we should play GO online
from stephenbank :
I could feel the sarcasm of that note.
from megansekiya :
i really do intend to.
from bratcore :
you're never home!
from kortnay :
I liked that entry.
from onemoredub :
I think we should go to the U of C media library to watch videos featuring John Coltrane and Charlie Parker sometime. We could also make photocopies of Saul Steinberg drawings for mix-tape covers, because I'm sure that would be effective.
from kortnay :
Hehe.. it's okay. Found out today that I am going ot Edmonton anyways... so alas. Maybe another time a road trip is called for? xo.
from recklings :
i'm sorry i wasn't online.. i'm going to write you electronic mail now because i have more to say then this can fit.
from withkerth :
mdaines! thanks for letting me come to your party - i hope you have a joyous holiday, and also = Beth told me to tell you to drop your resume off at the Gallery if you're still interested in a Bussing Job... So... yeah.
from christinam :
yes
from recklings :
i'll call you soon. i wish i had gone to Andrew's last night, i'm sorry i didn't see you.
from lwnpartyrebl :
mr daines! we still have to "do" that book. i think it could take a long time , so we have to be prepared. what does your household need for christmas? hey, are you having a party or something?
from christinam :
i like!
from withkerth :
beth? Beth is very rad. she quit though, I think,so maybe you should get in at the Night Gallery!
from christinam :
i hope to see you soon...soon soon, not just soon.
from recklings :
i realize it is creepy that i am replying right away, but i have msn and i am on it so i get e-mails when i get notes. anyways, i was talking to derya [roboticamour.diaryland.com] and she really was interested in taking pictures for websites, and i have friends who would, so we could start small having small contributions. i am really into this still so we should talk about it further.
from papereyes :
Quite sorry the job didnt work out, but seriously I could never imagine you in such a filthy environment. MrDaines you are a great great man.
from recklings :
i've been leaving a lot of notes latly, but i wanted to say that i really liked that entry and all of them and i think you are a great writer, because i get so into it, or something. i don't know. anyways, we should talk about this web design thing if you havn't already started working on it.
from withkerth :
oh... i want to cry thinking of you going back to Area 51. please don't go back there. though I bet you do look sharp in that sleeveless t-shirt.
from recklings :
well, it's not going to happen anyways, but yeah i guess i should ask cjay.
from recklings :
i'm writing a story and i was thinking of making it into a book actually and then i realized that it would have to be fall and it isn't so i'd have to wait a year and i dont know! anyways, you're good a photography and i was going to ask you to take pictures for it, but it needs to be fall...
from xbratcorex :
my dearest mdaines: it's a line from a KTMWQ song. it is not something i would call a reflection of you. that's why i put it by your name. i guess it was stupid, but i wasn't thinking that it would be taken badly or meanly. i'm sorry. it's being moved now, sir.
from recklings :
oh! i am just so glad you liked it! i realized there were a few songs i really like i didn't put on but i like every sk song so. anyways, i'm so glad you like it and i'm glad you enjoy them!
from xbratcorex :
no.
from kortnay :
Have fun Mike. I an highly jealous of you.
from stevecoffey :
What the fuck is that?
from onemoredub :
Today I bought "Remain In Light" and should probably listen to it again tonight, since I fell asleep on the bus. Do you own a copy of Stop Making Sense? I'd sure like to see that film!
from recklings :
it's Ashley's actually.
from wateronsand :
that movie made me feel sick
from pennyjane :
i want to come to dinner sometime, man.
from recklings :
haha i had to look up malapropism. it is funny that i did that, i just wish it had look like i wrote that purposfully, but oh well. thanks for having me at your house, and thanks for the wine. i wish i could have talked to you a bit more, but there was a bit too much going on.
from xbratcorex :
not a DOG SOLDIER, though.
from pennyjane :
did you and your face get that modeling business sorted out?
from lwnpartyrebl :
dude! i am coming to your party and i even don't have to work the next day. you are on for tetris! although i realized i suck.must practice. and we have to read/listen to that insane book/cd of yours one day....seee you saturday
from whenyouare :
You boys are so wonderful, equalling I am everlastingly grateful. I ran into Kyle, he told me, we'll be showing up next week (the 16) at around 11 AM.
from kortnay :
Sarah has the Cash box, you should give her a call. I believe she has them both. Call her.
from withkerth :
hi there. i just wanted to say thank you again for designing my layout. it has made me nearly pee everytime I look at it ever since you did it. which was a long long time ago. in my opinion, it's the greatest layout i've ever seen... i think you're super. thank you.
from onemoredub :
That's certainly one of the best songs in the canon of music
from themark-up :
it's ok, share and share alike
from papereyes :
thank you for the fame. you are a pleasure to be associated with. join me at a movie during the filmfest, you have until the 6th... -sophieq
from onemoredub :
He is only a series of points with no height, length, or width !
from pennyjane :
today, i saw you smiling. as you got out of your car.
from megansekiya :
i just added this ENORMOUS picture of myself onto my diarylandpage (HA HA HA HA HA) that i found at YOUR website i hope this doesn't piss you off. i'd like to see you mike daines!
from onemoredub :
You get under my skin, I don't find it irritating.
from onemoredub :
Pinch Hitters practice on Saturday!
from megansekiya :
yeah, i know, and the whole thing's a FUCKING SHAME.
from christinam :
hey, how are you?
from faunawolf :
My howse is in Inglewood. I was born in my howse.
from onemoredub :
Goodbye, and thanks with the IDs, etc. (sorry for not saying goodbye in person [durr, same message in Megan's notes])
from megansekiya :
i came on to diaryland today JUST to leave you the message that you have already left for me. it is wednesday at eleven sixteen a.m. i am free my whole life.
from christinam :
call me tomorrow mike my cell is 585-3771, please? I think its true that when you feel distanced from people you reach out to them. Ive left a great many notes this evening because Ive been sick this week and really havent left my house, which is good because I made a kick-ass mix-tape. Anyways take care -chrisitna
from pennyjane :
Mike! Ah thank you for fixing it for me, i went to reply on icq and it froze and now it wont log on!? Thank you very much. :x
from pennyjane :
Le Le Le Le Le Low. Are you coming to the folk festival Mike? Because Hayden is playing, and that's how i met you.
from megansekiya :
so i decided the "boyfriend forever" notion was definitely not for me. the idea of having a boyfriend for an extended period of time actually makes me want to die. actually i kind of decided that the "boyfriend" notion wasn't either. i'd really like to wear a gaudy wedding dress and have everyone coo over me and i really like the whole WE ARE LEGALLY BINDED NOW thing because sometimes when i'm thinking about it it makes me giggle, so i guess i'll balance my options. "i just called to say i love you"x2
from christinam :
hmm, the future entails so much, i hope you're in mine too.
from scout177 :
I should say that I mentioned you to the reporter from the New York Times, but not in the interview with him.
