Wordpress! Yes! Make the move. ;)
from femme-inine :
You named your fish Sushi? What a riot! I knew a family once that had 3 dogs: 2 Rottweilers and a Chihuahua. The Chi's name? Snack. :)
from femme-inine :
is it possible that you haven't written anything since February? No! I'm sure I've read stuff of yours more recently than that. What's going on? Where is you?
from sixweasels :
I'm a little behind in my reading, but still here!
from femme-inine :
You know I'm here! ;)
from femme-inine :
Sorry to say I will not be buying a sleep number bed. They are cool (I stayed in a hotel that had them) BUT I can't spend that much this time. I need to save $$$ for a condo down payment so I am buying a less expensive bed for now. I didn't know DG had a new book out! I'll have to go check it out. Also, if you haven't yet, get the His Dark Materials books on audio - they are the best audio books I've ever listened to - it's an entire production with a cast and everything.
from femme-inine :
Hey! I know it. I've been really busy and no internet at home til I find my computer. :) I'll be posting either today or tomorrow. Do you have my email address? You can also send me emails: barbara dot sharpe at yahoo dot com. Congrats on the new dog! :)
from femme-inine :
Glad to see you writing! ;) This new job of yours keeps you far too busy. Sorry you're sick, though. Also glad to hear Paw is doing better. I'm so glad for your entire family.
from sixweasels :
In spite of all the tough stuff, I'm glad you got some birthday happies and hope you have a great year ahead of you!
from femme-inine :
Glad to be of service, ma'am. :) Always happy to make a girl laugh.
from sixweasels :
Thanks for the note. Sorry you haven't been able to read. I thought I had emailed you with the password, but I may have forgotten. If you'd like it let me know.
from sixweasels :
I am so sorry. Hugs.
from sixweasels :
Keeping you, Misha and Renny in my thoughts!
from femme-inine :
Of course my fingers are crossed and you all are in my prayers. How sad for you.
from femme-inine :
Hey! Where's the new job! Congrats! Hopefully, I'll be making my own 'I got a job" post soon.
from femme-inine :
Well, did it? The bed I mean?
from femme-inine :
It's nice to see you back! As pretty as your site it, however, I can't read it! Urgh.
from nimiiwin :
Thanks! It is reasonably new! I was wondering where you were lately. Hope you're doing cool stuff and get back online soon!
from sixweasels :
I hope you and Misha have a wonderful time, and I can't wait to read about your adventures!
from sixweasels :
I'm always reminded of random people for no reasons I can put my fingers on. Glad I'm not the only one!
from nimiiwin :
Aw. I'm so sorry you've lost your furbaby.
from sixweasels :
I'm so sorry to hear about Trixie. I know it is hard when they go, even if they've lived a full life and you've expected it. I have similar dreams about those in my crew who have gone on.
from nimiiwin :
PS Michigan is SO beach country! We have the great lakes here! Lake Michigan is gorgeous and so is Lake Huron. Lake Erie, not so much. Lake Ontario I have never been to but Lake Superior is FREEZING. And that is the Great Lakes lecture du jour.
from nimiiwin :
Yes! I can recommend good books on tape! Can I email them to you? Send me an email at nimiiwin at yahoo dot com and I'll send you a whole list of good ones!
from biensoul :
I am sooooo jealous of your Ireland trip, but I know you'll have a blast! I'm glad I get a little glimpse into your life now and again, and I hope you're well, sweetie.
from nimiiwin :
Look at that. You *got* the states map from me ... and you haven't even been to Michigan!!! You must come here in October. It's beautiful. Or in August to go to my favorite beach and hang out reading trashy novels watching my sons run around and play. Come!
from nimiiwin :
Hey! Have a great trip! do you know I just found out this weekend that katslater is NOT your friends real name (which I thought) but a character on East Enders? Anyway. Have a great time in Ireland!
from nimiiwin :
you are a stitch. All day QVC? I'd be either broke or brain dead. Perhaps both. IT's feast or famine with them - either a bunch of stuff I WANT or nothing. Zip. Zilch. Ireland? Go, you. Tell that kat slater I'm sick of her not updating. I took her off my buddy list because she NEVER updates. She could just email me updates! For some reason, I really liked reading her stuff, even though we've never met.
from nimiiwin :
You want snow? I got about 3 feet of it you can have. If I could pack it up and send it your way, I would. I'm quite sick of it.
from nimiiwin :
No, we have 3 sons but one is in an inpatient treatment facility and so I only have much to say about the younger two. We aren't sure if the oldest is ever going to be able to live with us again. Not a sore subject so much as a sad one and one we don't have many answers for.
from nimiiwin :
45 minutes? Of previews? Geesh. I loved Hitch, too! And I have the same bias.
from nimiiwin :
Go, Red! I love that! More women should take a page out of her book! :)
from nimiiwin :
Have you ever read any of Alice Hoffman's novels? Since you're a sociologist, I wonder what you think of them. They are essentially all about the relationships between people and not much else but I've loved most of them.
from nimiiwin :
Where/what do you teach? I loved that study ... I think that it's a perfect demonstration of how easily preconceived notions enter our thought process. I love the photo albums! :) I want a ferret!
from vanillasky2 :
I *heart* the new layout. AND CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!! :)
from sixweasels :
Congratulations on your thesis approval - that rocks! As for what to do with the rest of your life, remember you can always change your mind! Somehow, that knowledge always helps me decide.
from nimiiwin :
Thanks. My dad seems to be okay now. You did remember the name correctly but it's the wrong dog. Ruby got hit by a car in June. We'd only had her for 4 months and I sobbed. I still miss her tons. Tasha is the dog we still have and Cameron is allergic to dogs. It really messes with his asthma. He can have a different kind of dog but not her kind. :( Anyway, it will be good for my dad to have a dog around.
from nimiiwin :
ABC job? What? I think I missed it! What job? And what is your masters in?
from sixweasels :
Thanks for coming by and for adding me to your favorites! I've enjoyed my visit to your diary and will definitely be back. The ladybugs are great? What are you doing your thesis on?
from nimiiwin :
Still more notes ... tell katslater to update! I don't have her email address or else I'd do it myself! :( Also ... on your template, when I click "notes" or "profile" I get an error message. I had to go to my buddy list and click profile to get here. Just so you know.
from nimiiwin :
Love the template! My youngest *loves* ladybugs!
from nimiiwin :
Thanks! :)
from katslater :
Thanks for the sweat shirt... it's kept me warm on several nights of my trip!
from katslater :
Oh, Happy Happy HAPPY Anniversary to you, my lovely. Have a wonderful day, and spoil each other with kisses and hugs. I'll be thinking about you! (Not in bed or anything... That would be gross.)
from nimiiwin :
I *think* I'm responding to a new note from you - but thanks! Yes, we're totally smitten with the boys. Both the boys! I miss them already and I can't wait for them to be living with us full time. Remind me of this in 2 months when I'm pulling out my hair, okay?
from nimiiwin :
Thanks! I'm pretty excited but trying to stay busy so that I don't think about it! :) More tomorrow.
from nimiiwin :
Thanks. We talked more and I'm less opposed to the whole idea ... but still not sure. We'll talk. I will not be moving to Mt. Pleasant, though. That much I do know. Thanks for the note.
from katslater :
Are you kidding me? You'd be a fool not to go to Oregon... because you're absolutely right. The husband and I aren't going anywhere-- in fact, if you wait another year to come and visit me, I might actually have a proper guest bedroom to put you and your man in!
from nimiiwin :
Hey, PBug! Thanks for the compliments on my Ruby! I think she is pretty adorable myself! ;) I've never been a "dog person" until I got her ... and I'm quickly closing in on Crazy Dog Lady!
from katslater :
What, what, WHAT? Baby-itis? Are you shitting me? And what were you just saying to me on the phone about all of that... not even two weeks ago?? Girl, if it's right, DO IT. I'll embroider you a baby announcement, or a sweet little blanket! Hurrah!
from katslater :
Girl, my whinging was in no way meant to make YOU feel guilty... I know you'd be here in short order if you could. It's the people that are just too lazy that I was moaning about-- and you definitely do not fall into that category!! Thanks for the reassurance, though. You can crash on my new couch anytime!!
from katslater :
Hey, stranger! Have you started reading "Fiery Cross" yet? Juuuuuuuuicy stuff... call me, we'll tawk. No big whoop.
from nimiiwin :
Hey! We're both ballet slippers! :)
from nimiiwin :
Thanks, PrincessBug! The reviewer just likes shorter entries. No big deal. Maybe because she's a teen yet and has a short attention span? Or maybe she just couldn't relate because of the age difference? Who knows. She was quite nice and says she's putting me on the Wall of Fame because I thanked her for the review and told her I didn't take offense. Everyone has their own opinions. Glad you like it though!
from nimiiwin :
Re: affirmative action. Okay "non-qualified"? What does that mean? No, it's not okay for someone who is totally unqualified to get a job they aren't capable of. Typically, it's more often used when it's a case of "all things being more or less equal except" and then, yes, it's okay to choose the woman over the man. We lose sight of its intent when/if we give jobs to people who are "unqualified" but I'd hesitate to take someone's word who wasn't involved in the hiring process whether a person is qualified or not. There are likely things they don't know. Unfortunately, if a person a woman or of color, they tend to be representative of a larger group than say a white man. If he screws up, he just screwed up. If a woman did, it's "See? Women can't do this and she only got the job because she's a woman." Not that people necessarily have malicious intent. It's human nature.
from nimiiwin :
Hi, you again! I think the biggest thing is to know what something is about and use it appropriately. Showing respect is key. So, I think you're okay! :)
from nimiiwin :
Hi, PBug. I'm looking forward to hearing more about your names! I was going to send you an email so as not to clutter up your notes but I didn't find one for you ... if you want me to have it, you can go to my journal and click the email link to get mine.
from nimiiwin :
Thanks for sharing your names. Is one Apache and the other Cherokee? How did you get them? Do your parents practice native ways then?
from nimiiwin :
Hi, Pbug. Nimiiwin is the Ojibwe word for Dancing which is part of my "Indian name." Thanks for doing the survey. I've had a great time reading the answers.
from biensoul :
December 6, 1993: Where were you? Alight in the birth of the What We Learned Today! Happy 10 years. *hugs*
from nimiiwin :
Hey! I just saw the comment you have for me on your profile. Thanks! :)
from nimiiwin :
You're welcome and I'm glad to hear he's doing better.
from nimiiwin :
Oh, PBug, I'll pray for you and your granddad, too. I'm sorry and I'll be anxiously waiting the update to tell us that he's alive and well and that you've told him you love him. :)
from katslater :
Oi! Bug! Where the hell are you? Speak to me! Tell me you haven't been run over by a truck with a gun rack on the tailgate!
from katslater :
Hey, thanks! I was not Made in England like Elton John, but it is good to be back. I too have read Lord John and the Private Matter... enh. It was good, but it felt like a pacifier to tide me over until the next big one comes out. Have you started Fiery Cross yet?? You need to stay on top of that, Bug. Seriously.
from nimiiwin :
The new book is a good story but doesn't have Clare and Jamie. I'm sure you'll like it. It's a normal sized book so you should be able to read it in a reasonable amount of time.
from nimiiwin :
Hello, Princess! I'm a *huge* Diana Gabaldon fan! She has a new one out but it isn't a Clare/Jamie one, it's about Lord John. It's called Lord John and the Private Matter and it's really very good.
from katslater :
Okey Dokey-- a stone is approximately 14 lbs. So if someone loses a stone, you say, "Well done, mate!"
from katslater :
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention-- my birthday present last year from a friend of mine was a hard back copy of Outlander, autographed by the divine Diana Gabaldon herself!
from katslater :
YESSSSSS. Finally, someone else who has experienced the Gabaldon fever! They are my best, most favorite books. Especially "Fiery Cross"-- have you gotten that far yet? What are your feelings about Brianna; bitch/not bitch? Who do you like better, Jamie or Roger? Talk to me-- you're the only one I can gush to!!
from katslater :
I like your theory on deja vu... personally, I think moments of deja vu occur when our souls remember something they've already learned in another life. Kinda similar, kinda different.
from katslater :
You can't just make references to people you'd never be friends with now... I need names!! Name and shame!! Hope you're feeling better now, I was starting to get worried about the Bug.
from katslater :
Thanks Bug, I really needed to hear that. You are a Peach, as well as a Bug!
from katslater :
Oh my dearest Princessbug-- THE EAGLE HAS LANDED, MANY MANY TIMES! *wink*
from katslater :
Who's Vanillasky2? Pardon my nosiness. I want her to write more!
from vanillasky2 :
Here I am!! Here I am!! Can you guess who I am??
from katslater :
Hem, hem. The name, my dear princess, is KATSLATER, not Katslayer. (Check your fav. diaries... change the spelling, sista!) Congrats on joining the crew. I look forward to probing the recesses of your mind... hey, why not just give her a call? Break the cycle. How else would WE have re-connected?
