hi, long time, hope life keeps getting better... i feel your frustration with the dating thing... i've been without a relationship for (scary) years now, but socially i am more active than ever... try meetup.com - it is not a dating site, it is a localized social network site where you can choose activities to do (movies, dinners, board games, whatever - name an interest, there's probably a group) and meet others with similar interests... it keeps me very socially active and i figure if i am out and about with groups of people (and some are becoming friends), then maybe i'll bump into 'right one' while having fun with friends and meeting new people with similar interests... at least check it out, i find it's a great way to meet people... i hope you find things to do to enjoy your holidays :)

I have absolutely no doubt in my mind that it IS them, not you! You're lovely, funny, talented and intelligent...you deserve to find the man who realizes and appreciates that!

A year seems like a long time, but really, when it comes to grief, it's not. You were terribly betrayed. That takes time to move away from. It is only natural that you want to protect yourself. As far as the string of one dates...I had YEARS of one dates before I found Bill. After my divorce, I was a single mom for 5 years (I think) before we got together. That's a lot of one dates. :o)
But the wait was worth it. In January, we will celebrate our 18th wedding anniversary. All the loneliness of my years alone have become a distant memory. The same will happen for you. (I hope you don't have to wait 5 years though.) You're a wonderful, intelligent, funny woman. You deserve to find a mate who sees that and embraces it. He's out there...looking for you and wondering why he is only having one dates too.
|

h2ophobic : |

You are sooooo right. That is one of the most ridiculous sayings I've heard. I think I've shared this with you before, but bear with me...I'm old. After my first marriage ended, I took inventory and realized that I'd always been attracted to the WRONG type of man. I didn't date for over a year, because I didn't trust my taste and was determined to change it. "Love like you've never been hurt." Advice like that is what makes women (and men) keep making the same mistake over and over. We always know what we want in a mate. Failed relationships teach us what we DON'T want in a mate.

Your diary showed up in the "recent public entries" box to the right and I'm glad I clicked on it. You're now one of my "favorites" here in D-Land. :) I, too, have been stood up on internet dates, and wished I had been stood up on others. In other words, wished I hadn't met the guy in the first place. And my sister in law was just stood up, after having flown to hawaii to meet the guy. Quite the story....poor kid, her heart is quite possibly broken. Anyway...your writing is fun. Do you write outside of d-land?

You crack me up! It's such a joy to hear (read?) happiness in your writing again.
I was once IN an all Spanish wedding. It was...interesting. I'll never forget when the bridal party sat down at their table for the reception, I'd just picked up my water for a drink and the Mariachi Band chose that moment to begin to play. They were directly behind me and scared the crap out of me! We had a great time though, the people were very kind and the food was incredible. The next day I threw away my bridesmaid dress...yes it was too ugly to even donate.

I love getting my hair color and cut. It's so...girly. It's one of the few treats that I refuse to give up. Don't listen to the nay sayers...if you like your hair and it makes you feel beautiful...that's all that matters.

You are right...24 is not a spinster! I was almost 27 when I married Bill. Yes, I married my first husband at 18, had Michael at 19 and divorced at 20. Then I was single for almost 7 years. 24 is a wonderful age to LIVE! That's what I wish for you...to LIVE and EMBRACE this time in your life.

Every job I've ever had suffered from the CYA syndrome too. We have one administrator who is famous (or infamous) for NOT doing what she says she'll do. I no longer call her. I do all of my interaction via email. That way when she says "I never told you that" I can print the email and show it to her. Sad, isn't it?

When my first marriage ended (he was physically abusive) I didn't date anyone for a year. I didn't trust my judgement in men. Eventually I figured out that I'd always known what I wanted in a man. After my marriage ended, I also knew what I didn't want in a man. Then I found Bill (four years later.) Good luck with your new self. Cut yourself some slack. Don't become too hard. You are not responsible for his actions. You honestly loved him and thought he honestly loved you in return. Some people just aren't capable of honest love. But...you are.

Your NOEL entry reminded me of a story. I also had a NOEL angel set. A friend of mine would always take the L out of the set and hide it until I noticed. "What did you do with the L in NOEL?" I would demand. He would laugh and say "What do you mean? It's right there (pointing to the NOE...there's no L." It was one of those things that although it's not that funny when you try to re-tell it, was hysterical at the time.

The town where I grew up (matter of opinion, I guess) had a banner across the main street with Noel on it. It read Noel as you were leaving town, and Leon when you approached. Silly town.

Hi Caitlyn. I can't believe you've still got "Dressed to Maim" as your heading. I don't have any great words of wisdom for your situation. I did see this story recently about a woman who...well, I won't be a spoiler. http://www.iht.com/articles/2007/07/31/arts/golf.php
Maybe for now you could combine what you love with what you need to do to pay the bills. I'm guessing that even being a receptionist or something similar would be more fun for you if it was working at a theater. The phone calls, the surroundings, the people, it would all be a reminder of what you want. I'm the last one who should be in the advice business, though. Take care. John

I love Ace of Cakes too. I have to laugh when Duff does his goofy little laugh. I get a lot of flack about what I read too. I prefer murder mysteries. I've heard many comments about Harry Potter too. ALL from people who haven't read them. It used to irritate me but now when someone says to me (in a condesending tone) that they don't read HP...I just respond "Oh too bad, it's great FICTION!"

Dear Sweet Caitlyn,
I'm so sorry to hear about your breakup. No words can comfort you know. Just as you had to experience the euphoria of love, now you have to experience the pain of it's loss. It WILL get better. Not today, and probably not to tomorrow...but one day you will realize that you aren't as sad. Then another day you'll realize that you feel hopeful. God bless you.

Your "Dumb Overheard" entry made me laugh out loud. I have a co-worker who constantly uses "almost the right word" too. The one that makes me the craziest is when she uses "went" instead of "gone." Okay, I actually watched a PBS episode about those. The reenactor wannabees found out that it's all about the wheels - they're not just for transportation, but the thing moves on the wheels when it flings. thought I'd share the knowledge up front. there used to be a TV show called Northern Exposure, and one episode one of the guys made a huge one and they went out and launched stuff. It was way cool. Take care. John

Or where Canada is on a map? Lordy... Most of my 'you have ~got~ to be kidding' stories are history based (makes sense as a major), but here are some good ones -- 1) I had a girl in my map making class ask the prof in front of the ENTIRE class whether or not Mexico was a part of North America. 2) I was buying cookies for my history of Taiwan movie night and a girl asked me why I wasn’t bringing Thai food. 3) There was a guy in one of my Asian history classes who was looking for Japan on a map. Problem was he was looking around Hawaii because of the sneak attack on Pearl Harbor. But at least he was better than the last guy – 4) Was looking for Japan off the coast of LA because of the sneak attacks on California during WWII. People are SOO dumb…

Poor you! You have my deepest sympathy...I went through that myself a couple of weeks ago. I don't know if you have a refrigerator (do you live in an apartment or a dorm?), but popsicles were my best friends. I got picked on for looks. I think picking on people for looks is shallow. But I agree that it would end up being something else if not looks. And we shouldn't really do that because, stupid people have feelings too! But if we don't organize people in our mind it will be very confusing for us I think. Because instead of sorting through a section it would be the whole thing. And we know how long it takes to search a whole drive for a file!
|
| from
babybach29 : |

I got picked on a lot for how I looked. I was ugly, short, weird; I had psoriosis and stringy hair. So: yes, I have that frame of reference. For me, people are beautiful or ugly only after they are smart or dumb; I can't have one without the other. Dumb is ugly. Period. I just spelled "ugly" "guly" so I guess that makes me...ugly...in conclusion, who cares how anyone looks, we'll all the damn same when we're old and wrinkly anyway. Hell.

I've taken care of him my entire life and now he is going to be completely beyond my range and I guess it might just be the control freak in me getting weird about it all, especially the closer it gets to the date. before you get an ipod i'd suggest going to www.pricegrabber.com. it's a great comparison shopping site where you can compare ipods to other devices that cost less and do more. it also links you to companies you can buy the products from for what is often a significantly lower price than that advertised by the manufacturer. i used it for almost all of the new elctronics purchases at work and saved us hundreds of dollars in doing so. it's def. worth a look for any purchase. good luck!

The story you refer to in your "Incredibles" entry is called "Harrision Bergeron" and it is by Kurt Vonnegut. I read that story in 7th grade and it haunted me, and I spent 7 years trying to remember who wrote it so I could then own it. And I do, and the ending is pretty telling, too: when people break out of their "mediocre" shackles and are killed for it-and society propmtly forgets.
Um...now, on that downer: Happy New Year!

Cynic tho I am, I still enjoy "White Christmas" very much. While I don't walk away thinking the world is rosy and I'll wake up with a body like Rosemary Clooney, I like to think about there are still SOME people who like to see how Christmas should be: giving, bright, exciting, and warm. And while I don't partake in any religious stuff on Christmas, I love the idea that, at least for a little while, there are people who will feel love, loved, generous, and hopeful, at least for a little while. Merry Christmas, Caitlin.

It is an interesting museum, if you can call it that...but muzicheesegal and I were there this summer and saw the whole thing, could have spent more time there actaully...gives a certain perspective on things. images like that go first to the ones that can handle them best. every post mortem moment of compassion eases the heartache of loss. compassion understands the heartache can never be completely removed. compassion tells the story of the lives and realities of images pressed between glass finger and thumb of unfeeling technology so the heat of lost lives is momentarily rekindled. images like that go first to the ones that can handle them with the greatest compassion.

Good for you for being brave and contacting your women's ensemble leader - it's a really good/respectable thing. I totally agree that it is not really fair that you should be participating in a worship service that you fundamentally don’t agree with - you should never waffle on your principles (it ~never~ turns out well). And if your ensemble leader has issues with that, it's his problem, not yours and you shouldn’t have to put up with him. Be brave, be strong and stand up for what you believe in. Go you.

I hate pant shopping, they are all made for people who are not shapped like me. For example, I have a butt and apparently you shouldn't have one of those when you shop for pants. I hate how guys can do virtually nothing (or nothing) and be thin. It's not fair. What do girls get when they work out? Lots of muscles in the legs. Don't worry, you'll find some pants. *hugz*

It's an odd experience I know. Sometimes I almost feel that we should thank the tormentors because we are stronger and better because of it. When they are faced with the slightest bump in the road of life they don't know how to handle it.

You know what Caitlin? You are an amazing person. I know what it's like to be made fun of throughout highschool. That was very adult of you. ...the way you dealt with that girl. Don't let her torture you even more now that you have it better than her. You probably had it better than her all the time cuz you are a better person, and she knew it. That's why she treated you the way she did. Don't beat yourself up too much just because she refuses to wake up to the real world. You go Caitlin!!

I knew there was a reason that I liked you - you know, other than for being funny and well spoken and sharing many of my opinions regarding small people fitting into torpedo tubes. My mother and my best friend are both pro-life, and it comforts me that we all can still get along and be as close as we are. Thank you for the nice note :) It made me happy. I also found your entry on the sub vets really interesting - sad and a little odd towards the end (I, too, would LOVE to be a fly on the wall for the convention), but interesting all the same. It wasn't because of a guy it was just b/c we had different morals and all that stuff. Also in my diary i had the whole confession thing. The Guy #3 guy reads it so i hope he ends up reading what i had to say about him (b/c there's so much detail he's bound to find out it's him) but i hope i never really have to say it. Like i get what you mean when you say that you want them to read it and hope they'll respect you for being honest and all that stuff at the same time hope you'll never really have to say it... I've felt that with one high school friend. We'll ponder more on this while sipping Strawberry daiquiries at the Ren Faire, ja? ^_~

Wow, that entry on your dad. That was really nice. In arabic there's this phrase, it goes "Igleb Wedgehek". Literally translated it means "flip your face" but the intent of it is suppose to mean turn your cheek the other way. It was funny, all my friends would tell me (when i was feeling down) to flip my face and igleb wedgehek. (Which is the same, but hehe it's funny) Oh and yeah my parents are alot like your dad b/c they would say you could do this or this and let me choose. Don't give offending people a second thought. Would they care if they offended you by writing some nasty note here as a response? I doubt it. Not that we should not care about others because it's entirely likely they won't care for us in return. Rather, the vital thing is to persist in doing good and telling the truth IN SPITE OF the possibility, and probability, that people will be offended. Respect to be worthy of respect. Care to be worthy of care. And the more truth and goodness you put out there, the more people that you will likely offend! Great how that works, eh? Let's see, other highly offensive folks we know... um... Martin Luther King Jr... Ghandi... Martin Luther... Jesus Christ... At least you're in good company! You should be in MY company. Dune party at my place: STAT!

Sorry for the two notes in one day, couldn't remember what else I was going to say. Little things in life. It makes life all worth while. I think anyway. One: because you don't expect it. Two: if you had big exciting things happening to you all the time you wouldn't appreciate small things. Three: It lets you know others care which is always a good thing. And I'm sure we could both come up with plenty of other reasons. *smiles*

First of all, you are in theater, that means revisions come daily and that's how it is. Hear that in comments from tv stars and movies stars all the time about how they got an updated script daily, sometimes hourly. Second, Don't change too much, that could be very very bad. We all love you just how you are, evil Cat is scary and is only fun in theory. Third of all *HUGZ* Been there, done that. Pretending to not have emotions or pretending that they are different than what they really are is not fun and is in fact a drain after awhile, not to mention takes a really long time to mend and move on. Must be one of the more painful aspects of growing up, I don't think it ever goes away, we just learn to accept it and move on. I'm hear for you hun. Luv ya!

Ah yes, the good old "m" shot. When I got mine last year the guy was like "this needle is so small you won't even feel it. It is like a musquito's nose." He had a odd accent too. ANYWAY....don't know how the bathrooms are at your college but I have a feeling that you'll really appreshiate that shot!

Hey Babe, I'm sorry to hear that you are having difficulties. (Sounds like an ice cream outing to me!) I know you will adapt well to college. You already know Kim and that's a head start on things that most people don't get. I wouldn't worry about your grades hun. You are NOT stupid. I have been told by many in my class that college is just like high school (I have obviously picked the wrong school for that). Starting over again is never easy but you have friends to help and your family isn't that far away. *hugz* I'm here for you hun.

Oh, you'll be awsome in whatever you do. I'm on my fourth choice major since starting college. But no more for me! I'm getting an MIS degree unless I die. (In which case, it would be kinda hard to finish) You'll do just great in college! And I'm not all that far away if you need me.

Shanks hun. Precious is wrapped up really really really well and is in my fridge (hence the really really really's) where she will be until I go burry her at the lake on Th. I made her a little tombstone. (yes, I make my pets little headstones) Buddy freaked out and can't figure out where she went but I'm doing ok. I'm just glad that she isn't suffering like she was on Monday (well, that's what it looked like). So ya....

Thought of something else. I don't know about you but I'm fed up with all the crap I hear about. What is going on with all of you? From the first day of school 'til now I'll I hear about is "so-n-so did this, so-n-so that" and I'm really just sick of it. Is it really that hard to get along? I guess so. I hope you all realize next fall that you all made a big mistake in squandering senior year. Senior year is suppossed to be fun. I hope there is something good that you all got out of senior year though that you can look back on. Like 20 years from now when most bad things are forgotten I would hate to thing that everyone goes "senior year? I don't remember senior year. I think prom was ok though...." I'm not "yelling" at you specifically pureone, just in general. I love you all. I hope you know that.

It’s called adolescence. The time when a person grows from an immature child to a more mature adult. It’s a time of change. People change. I’m not the boy I used to be… That’s how you reconcile the past with the presant. People change.
