from lunjonez :
That layout is H O T even if no one has picked it up yet.
from theprocess :
lol! i agree! and never let it be said that we went silently! please do share your strongly-worded letter to the irresponsible, gluttonous corporation that shall remain nameless...
from lunjonez :
Change is always good!
from lucklacking :
It must be something in the air. I was also thinking about River the other day. Eerie.
from onethought :
wow, strangely enough, i've been thinking a lot about river phoenix too, and i have no idea why
from theprocess :
how wonderful that people in your life understand how much you appreciate a coloring book and big box of crayons! (i'll be buying my own after the holi-daze lifts...mandelas to color...saw it in a bookstore. and i'm WAY older than you!) Merry Christmas!
from sam :
Sheesh. I'm still struggling with beginner html, and you've become a designer!
from lunjonez :
Alright -- One of these days I'll make some layouts of my own ... I've purchased a HTML book but that's about it. Those screenshots are hot!
from katecaterina :
'Dashing Through the Snow' is a favourite here, along with silly people dressed in woolly Santa costumes. Those songs never seemed odd until I moved to the U.K., where it actually did snow at Christmas. Now I'm like, can't you think of any new songs already? 'Dashing across the sand', or something? Like the new layout, btw.
from paean :
I wouldn't mind 32 degree weather because it's FREEZING here. Those songs were probably written by a Canadian =)
from hiphopdiary :
i just read an article in Caribbean Life (a local weekly newspaper) about a meeting that the West Indian Day Parade Committee held. one of the points discussed was their desire to (i quote) "create tourism-friendly neighborhoods and a tourism-friendly atmosphere." 'school programs should ingrain tourism-friendly attitudes from childhood to adulthood,' said Bklyn Deputy Borough President, Yvonne Graham, 'including lessons on Bklyn's rich local history so that every resident becomes a default tour guide.' they also want to look for "a more isolated space for carnival preparations [like Mas floats], preferably waterfront property, which is owned by the city and would be appropriate because there would be fewer neighbors who would be disturbed by the 'noise'." Ah yes, quiet, well-behaved Bklyn tour-guides.
from theprocess :
when i've been to places where tourism is the main industry and the majority population is black (antigua, jamaica and bermuda), i felt i got an extra degree of care and solicitude from (for example) cab drivers and hotel or resturant staff when i asked where folks who lived there went to eat or to hear music, etc., which i attributed to being black AND being a good "guest" instead of a rude tourist (expecting servility). of course, this was a while ago; things are changing, $ is tighter, class differences more pronounced. i've never been to barbados, but hope to visit some day! thanks for sharing all your views. peace.
from lunjonez :
Go for it Rez -- I finally broke down and purchased a domain [www.soulofaman.com] and I'm lovin' it.
from unsweptroom :
glad you're back :)
from theprocess :
[grin] point taken! welcome back!
from audrelorde :
hi rez :) it's been so long. my home has moved - you can find me at: unsweptroom.diaryland.com
from honestlyme :
Hi Rez, I haven't forgotten about you--I've just been a bit busy settling in. Congratulations, so much, on finishing your thesis!!
from javalandjess :
wow! I'm really impressed...
from hiphopdiary :
i'm a venter. a ventilator.
from hiphopdiary :
one never runs out of options.
from hiphopdiary :
i wouldn't mind putting in some time in guyana. keep me posted.
from honestlyme :
Your diary is really wonderful. Just wanted to let you know :)
from lucklacking :
The new layout is just beautiful.
from theprocess :
oh, boy, do i feel you! i've gotten to where i've been cutting folks off with lines like "we can't have this conversation 'cos you're not venting it; you're feeding it. let go, already!" i'm still recommending repeated playings of mary j singing "no more drama" as therapy for victims of assault with O.P.D. peace.
from audrelorde :
rez- i'm still out here reading your words everyday :)
from lunjonez :
I totally understand what you mean ...
from hollywoodusc :
June 20- I don't know you. But I know how you feel.
from lunjonez :
Jamaica ... Sounds nice ... Good Luck with the process.
from lockdsistah :
I came, I saw, and I'm leaving a note on my way out! I'm mighty *young* to this web log life, so bear with me if you decide to come through and run a finger over my thoughts...Until then....SiS
from unsettling :
Oh my goodness, the same thing happened to me, I left a wonderful job (albeit with limitations) to get a job I thought would be a better opportunity and pay better. I'm still here. If you can get your old job back, go for it. Good luck.

from shinyjen :
About the IQ thing, because I'm having to study it for my Psychology A level and I feel like being a show-off although I'm probably wrong: 100 is the average since IQ is based on a normal distribution curve and stuff. Anything over 120 is well above-average, and the Mensa-entry level is (I think) 147. So your score is pretty damn good, methinks. Although the BBC test thing is horrifically flawed and all IQ tests are culture-biased and intelligence is difficult to define and NO I AM NOT BITTER BECAUSE I ONLY SCORED 101 NO. No.
from shawntasy :
Awwwe it cant be that bad! I love shopping, way too much though!
from apwoh :
hi Titilayo! Your LJ isn't working for some reason. I just wanted to tell you I got your IM the other day, but I was out when you sent it and didn't get it for a couple of hours. You were signed off by the time I got it. Anyway, just wanted to let you know. I signed up for Diaryland ages ago, but I never use it. Hee!
from hiphopdiary :
i've been keeping my diary only at www.livejournal.com, because i can keep certain posts "friends only," which means random people won'y be able to stumble on my talkng shit about my work and other stuff.
i'm still called hiphopdiary there. if you want i'll send you a code so you can get your own diary, then you can read all about my new job. it's fab!
and i broke it off with the boy yesterday morning!
from lunjonez :
I believe my father is going through the same thing that your father is going through. Being that I have to co-sign on your statement ... I have no idea what he's going to do when he gets old and needs his sons there for him ... It's going to hurt like hell. Not that I'll be trying to get even with him (or will I?) but he wasn't around when I needed him the most. Damn.
from theprocess :
(lol) congrats on the completed project. condolences to the next-of-kin of you so-called writing" partner"...
from buckles :
I'm glad you liked the quote. It helps me sometimes, too. You're so strong! Stay that way.
from buckles :
layout = a-freaking-dorable
from hiphopdiary :
an excerpt from my amazon.com review of the How High DVD:

The plot's a familiar one-- take the basic selling-points of any Cheech and Chong movie (a pair of shambolic protagonists who smoke lots of weed while slinging slang and driving funky, 70s-style cars)...etc.

you might notice i borrowed a word from you. THANKS!

from hiphopdiary :
your new layout is very easter eggy.
from paean :
Hi to you too! I'm so busy with exam time now, super-studying etc.. !! Ahh, I love reading about your grad school =) So inspiring (even if you do bitch about group work etc..). Don't know if you have exams, but if so, GOOD LUCK!
from hiphopdiary :
i completely agree with you. in a similar trend, the Jamaica Tourist Board just issued VIP cards to a select list of wealthy, influential people (no celebrities are on the list), so they can get in and out of the country without a passport and whatnot. Jamaica right now is notdoing well at all, but they still want to promote whatever "eltite travel destination" image they can. the thing about barbados is they've been pushing the lush-yet-civilized aspect for years. because i've always been a "freak", i went out of my way to chill with "regular people", but i would guess that 98 percent of tourists never even see a "regular person"s house and most probably don't even eat in restaurants that aren't located within a hotel complex. blah. people suck.
from hiphopdiary :
the first time i ever left the country (at age 21) i spent 9 days (BY MYSELF) in christ church. the locals were shocked that i was able to figure out how to take the regular minibus back from the cricket oval to my hotel all by myself, or even that i did it instead of taking a taxi. celebs prefer barbados because it's beautiful, small and not as wild as jamaica is. plus, it has a reputation as being an extremely posh country in general.
from hiphopdiary :
first of all-- you ARE smarter than most of the people in your course. it's a fact. that doesn't mean your life will be easier than theirs or you'll catch better breaks than they will. but you are smarter AND more competent than they are. most people are idiots.

second of all-- educated Bajans have a better command of the English language than almost any other English speaking group in the world!

there's nothing wrong with being, well-educated, competent and brilliant. it only sucks when you're forced to work with lazy idiots and you can't seem to find people at your own level!

rock on, rez!

from theprocess :
about halle and the best actress oscar: yes, yes, and amen. you said it exactly right. pass the kleenex.
from lunjonez :
I just finished reading your latest entry ... Good Luck -- It'll be hard to do.
from lunjonez :
I'm happy to hear that you saw Jill (since you two are on a first names basis) in concert -- What's it wonderful? I can recall seeing in her concert when she came to California and she was off the hook! The bass player was off the hook ... Yes, I think it's better ...
from buckles :
you know, not that it makes it better, but i'm going to be 60,000 USD in debt by the time it's all over for me. so you know i'm feeling that. but! it's a fair trade for a future in which i don't have to be some horrible man's secretary. being broke forever is ok, if it's on my terms!
from hiphopdiary :
yeah- what IS up with all those bears in my guestbook? actually, i must admit- when i got the first one, i went to YOUR diary's guestbook to see if you had them too. it's like some fauna-spam. weirrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrd.
from nakedreviews :
Your review is done and posted. dirtguy150
from theprocess :
yes regarding the so-called sexy pop ups (whose definition of sexy are they using, anyway?), and lord, yes about the music. currently in my changer: Roots Manuva, Patsy Cline, Bjork & Mos Def. enjoy the daffodils. peace.
from samuellewis :
Yay! All those poopy ppo up ads bother me too. How is sex supposed to remain a sacred union between two people in love if it's crammed down out throats at every turn.
from hiphopdiary :
i. am. a. scandal. hey, i just noticed you have luciano as one of your favorite artists. i should list him, too. then he'd have two listings as fave artist! when's the j.s. concert and who is opening up for her?
from theprocess :
that guy scared ME, and i'm in my own house. you absolutely conveyed your discomfort/fear/intimidation, as well as your true compassion toward a truly disturbed (and distrubing!) human being. praying for him wasn't maudlin at all. you rock.
from tuxedo :
whee. i <3 the title of yer page.
from inez :
love your space!
from a-woman :
This is your aunt. How tall of a ladder are we talking about? HAHAHAHHA I laughed so hard at that post. Can't wait for the travelogue of the Paris trip.
from lunjonez :
If you can get your hands on Marc Baptiste's book -- Do so. The pictures were wonderful. Some of the ladies featured were: Fashion Models: Bethann Hardison, Alek Wak, Beverly Johnson. Soul Singers: N'dea Davenport, N'dambi (who I thought had some of the slickest photos), Lisa Raye, Rosario Dawson and her mom, Stacey Dash, Vanessa L. Williams, and Famed Author and Editor Deborah Gregory.
from honestlyme :
Just read your last New Year's entry, and I have to say that The Sims is a _very_ addicting game :-)
from honestlyme :
Hey, I've just been going through some random entries of yours...I read the one on Sep. 11th and I totally agree with you. Living in America, it's hard to see everyone sticking flags on their front yards and cars without feeling something like anger. It is SUCH a big deal here; everyone has the mindset "America's been bombed, and now the world's going to end!" I hate how people here think they're better than the rest of the world just because of America's economic status...I hate how people think nothing of America's treatment towards other countries, but suddenly, when this "sacred soil" is touched, they get so riled up and make a huge deal about it for months. I also hate how industries are now capitalizing on this act of terrorism--"United We Stand" T-shirts, banners, pins and mugs are everywhere...and people are actually _buying_ the stuff. That whole situation is absurd to the point of hilarity (is that grammatically correct? It's 2:30 in the morning and I can't think). Anyways, I feel really strongly about this point, which is why I wrote so much... Your diary is really great :-)
from lunjonez :
I just finished reading your enries -- Have a nice trip to Paris!
from hiphopdiary :
you're so awesome!
from samuellewis :
It's okay. I'm too old for that stuff too. I start yawning at abouty 12:30.
from samuellewis :

from hiphopdiary :
okay, okay- i'm gonna get it together this week and mail CDs to everyone i've been promising for months. including you! i have that roberta flack CD, so before you go and order more stuuf, shoot me an email and tell me what kind of music you like (besides reggae!)
from jeksa :
Haha, is it a good thing that my diary reminds you of undergrad? Especially since you took engineering. I'm kidding! It's just so easy to berate your own faculty, cuz it can be so torturous. I especially hated discrete math, and programming. ERRR!! I hope you are having a good time in your graduate studies!
from jezebel33 :
thanks for the voice of support and reasoning. i had a weak moment, but i think i'm okay now! go make fun of that boy!
from jeksa :
Yes, I agree with audrelorde, your diary is nice!! I especially like how you write about being in engineering (because sometimes we just want to not write about it to escape, haha). Congrats for getting into post-grad, that must mean you had amazing marks in your undergrad!! Which is so unlike me =( Maybe I will do better by reading your journal, keep your fingers crossed!!
from audrelorde :
rez, you're the best. i absolutely love reading your diary. i feel like we're buddies.
from jeksa :
Wow, an engineer who didn't want to be an engineer during her undergrad. I thought I was the only one!!!
from hiphopdiary :
what, are you kidding me???? i could talk to you all night and day about stuff like that! you have stumbled upon the fact that EVERYTHING in this world is bound up in related social issues. politics, economics, history, media- etc. it all has to do with the social aspect. i will send you out some music soon.
from hiphopdiary :
hey, email me your address and I will send you some good music!
from buckles :
it's dumb ol' English Literature (encompassing both American and British, though I've tended toward the British when I had a choice.) They like us to be all well-rounded n' shit, so I have to take linguistics and writing and so forth, too. Gosh, but it's raining hard outside.
from i-super-flyy :
Hey Rez. I don't blog on diaryland anymore, and I was too lazy to send an email so I resorted to the diaryland notes. LOL I just wanted to let you know that I've been keeping up with your journal and I am very happy that things are going better for you. I appreciate you taking the time to post comments and such when u read something that catches your attention in journal! Take care!
from hiphopdiary :
I'm glad my life sounds fascinating on paper! I should doing something important or meaningful and instead I'm a no job-having, no relationship-having, non-volunteering, entertainment industry-obsessed chickie. And the projects that would semi-validate my life are both indefinitely on hold!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And you ARE the only person who signs my guestbook, so from now on it's gonna be called the rezbook! Email me your address and I'll burn you a copy of the Baaba Maal CD.
from hiphopdiary :
Hey grrrl, glad you're adjusting to London. It's a nice city to visit. What are you studying? Leave me a note at my diary and let me know?
from buckles :
GWShark? I have no kind of idea why anyone would pay extra for that as a license plate. I'm thinking a real estate agent or the like. Glad the note helped, and you're doing better there.
from buckles :
dear rez, you are brave and tuff and smart. viel gluck in london, baby!
from buckles :
dear rez--joan aiken was indeed the one. there's a film version of wolves of willoughby chase that is not be missed. i think it was a hallmark tv special? try imdb.com?
from justagrrl501 :
nooo Mos Def is my boyfriend...
from jezebel33 :
yo, this might seem a bit weird, but i'd like to direct you to allibaba. she's new to diaryland and, though i won't go into it here, i think y'all have some stuff in common. perhaps you are good for her. check it out.
from karas :
rez . . . i do like maxwell's new album now that i've given it an honest listen. at first i hated it, because i had it on in the background while i was in the midst of several phone conversations, and other than one song that caught my ear immediately, the whole thing sounded like one long drawn out song. and a song that for all intents wasn't that impressive. i do think it's worth a buy. i can't decided whether i think it's phenomenal, but i do believe it's worth owning. my best advice to u is just to go to a store that has listening stations and decide for urself if they have the CD up. cause i don't want my advice to be the cause of u wasting money if u do not like it. good luck on that tho. walk in peace. easy -Karas
from hiphopdiary :
hey, check out this link to an EXCELLENT album i think you should get: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00000DGYK/qid=999060451/sr=1-9/ref=sc_m_9/103-2940261-7722229 It's by Baaba Maal and Mansour Sek and it is incredible! It's called Djam Leelii and it will make you put Graceland aside! Bee
from chad-cube :
I found you from linking up to Jezebel, and I've been reading along... I feel pain from your dad related issues, but I can tell by what you have to say about it that you are not a hateful person. Maybe they should call this TherapyLand because that's what most of us use it for. :) Anyway, I enjoy what you have to say. P.S. I feel you on the public diary issue.
from i-super-flyy :
Hey. You left a note for me, and I appreciate the fact that you read my diary. Just to clarify something...travesty is not an adjective. The word travesty is a noun and a verb in all of it's forms. I am using the word travesty in it's verb sense: travesty \Trav"es*ty\, v. t. [imp. & p. p. Travestied; p. pr. & vb. n. Travesting.] To translate, imitate, or represent, so as to render ridiculous or ludicrous. I'm an english major and I love the concept of double meanings. Mocking imitation is my version of a colaborative definition. :) Now I'm being the smart alek...
from shinyjen :
Er, hello! You left me a note! Wow! You'll be glad to know I've returned, since you seemed so concerned, which I don't know whether to find worrying or flattering. Kidding. Probably. Um... xylem!
from audrelorde :
hey rez, thanks for your kind note about my diary :) i've been reading yours also and i'm enjoying it immensely. stay in touch, jen
from buckles :
Heh. I left you a note in my own notes because I'm dumb. What I SAYING was, that Mos Def is my secret boyfriend, too!
from sonrisatuya :
You are so strong. What you have gone through is my worst nightmare. My mother had a cancer scare this past year and all I could think about was the fact that she HAD to live because I do not know how to exist without her. Thank you for sharing your story. Thank you for reminding me how fortunate I am.
from sonrisatuya :
Thought I would just leave you a little note to say, "HI"..so, "hi". hehe TGIF! Have a good weekend!
from rez :
So this is a new diaryland feature, kind of like a more informal guestbook, I suppose, where you can leave comments on this, that and whatever. Please, if you've reached this page, leave a note, okay? Thanks muchly.
