thanks, i have a friend who drives trains for a living, and although it's not the most respected occupation, he makes oodles of cash and has cushy benefits because he's part of a union. what really stinks is that when he meets girls, and tells them what he does, they pretty much give him the brush off. he was wondering what it would be like to be the loud obnoxious young american marketing executive and whether or not he'd score more chicks. sad thing is, he probably could but i think the ones he's looking for are of a rarer breed.

I caught an old entry but felt that anytime is a good time to recommend good books, music, movies, etc. forgive me if you've listened to read, seen, or done any ofthese things already...
book- "the curious incident of the dog in the nighttime",
movie-the station agent
music- Sondre Lerche- from Norway
something to do- well, depends on where you are...

Well, I went school with my church to visit the churches there; therefore, we didn't go much shopping. How do you think about there? :) Well, are you american? That's fun that you're interested in Asian culture.. :> I'm going to study then! c ya~

I love cute stuff there although I didn't shop a lot there. Uh Korean food.. I love kimchi. I eat food as spicy as Koreans! I've been there in 2002. Do you like it there?

So I had to do a bit of snooping to figure it out -- You had it in your main directory, not your /samedi directory (where your diary images are stored). So I moved it, and renamed it, so now if you want it to show up just use this code: <IMG SRC="http://geocities.com/zirka33/samedi/basilique.txt"> okay? Oh, and DAMN, I gotta give you your layout! I'll finish up the specified links tonight (that's all that's left), and upload it tonight (unless my stupid asswipe of a father kicks me off the computer so he can play some stupid asswipe video games). Mmmkay?

Happy International New Year to You!

I'll bet they dislike her more than she dislikes them. I've been immersed in former Soviet culture for 4 years. When I met my first 100 soviet friends, I assumed they'd be as interested in me as I was in them, that friendship would come as easily as it had in my travels. I was wrong, unaware of how much impact the iron curtain really had. Many former-Soviets our age struggle with racism--at least one admitted its because diversity didn't exist in his country. Soviet culture was ULTRA sheltered from the rest of the world, so you won't find many Armenians sampling Thai or Ethiopian food (or anything unfamiliar.) Individuality is not a value that HB or any of his Armenian or other friends were raised on, so culture shock with Americans is inevitable. I never expected to encounter as much anti-Americanism as I did with HB's friends and family. We had to be patient--Luckily some were willing to embrace my culture as easily as I embraced theirs, but it took a long time. (sorry so long)

I don't know any official numbers to back this up, but I've met so many Ukrainians, and it seems odd to me I've never met one from L'viv or Odesa. All came from Kyiv, and just one from a small country town just outside Kyiv--out of a sample of 70 or more people! Kyiv must be a ghost town, because they're all here! Maybe Odesa is a place few want to leave?

I was absent for days so now I'm catching up on entries. Ooh Odesa.. HB said it's a place people go on vacation, to relax by the sea. And western Ukrainians are hopelessly polite, I've heard. The majority of Ukrainians are from Kyiv. Ever read A Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich?

I'm so glad you mentioned the Ukrainian famine. I STILL can't convince many of the Soviets I know that this really happened. Some of the more nationalistic ones refuse to believe their govt would keep such a monstrous secret. That is the saddest thing of all. I wonder if the curriculum in post-Soviet Ukraine now covers this dark portion of history?

I'm pretty sure, that you'll never find the job/whatever you wanna do for the rest of your life. Ahh you see I actually deleted all of my entries, coz I got an entry in my gb stating they were from my school. I can't determine, whether this is a fake entry by some dork or not, but it has finally made me draw a decision I thought about for quite a while. You know I had way too much personal information on me and my friends in there and I always pondered, whether I was violating their privacy. I just deleted the whole stuff and saved it on a disk. Maybe I'll start out new with just my thoughts on this or that, but without telling too much about the people surrounding me. One way or another it will take a few weeks, till I'll post again. But thanks for the interest in my boring little entries ;) Take care!

Graggle. I wonder how come every time I write a note to you I think of 'grggley' sound effects. Anyway. Um, what I meant was, if you were to be putting little icons under the words ARRIVALS and DEPARTURES, then you could have four different ones, or more. Because there's not just the ones under ARRIVALS, but the ones under DEPARTURES, and you could make them different. But you could also have an icon for each link, and that could work. Honestly, it's all what you want. So tell me what you want! (Spice Girls going through my head...)

Graaaghrrl. d00d. That entry SO posted before I was ready! I didn't even get to change the link to that symbols place (because I decided in the middle of the post I would place it there, to make things easier), and I didn't get to proofread it, so I wasn't able to correct the 'above' to 'below'. Dangitalltoheckeven. Ahem. So now it's not a link, but at least you have the URL: http://www.aiga.org/content.cfm?CategoryID=38 Oh, and another thing. You can choose four, really, because you have both ARRIVALS and DEPARTURES. Yup.

Ooooh poor elbow. I hope it is feeling better by now. I am very interested in the Ice Maiden and co. They are particularly interesting because their blood is frozen in their bodies--without the sublimation effect. My mentor/friend in the states actually worked on those mummies, coincidentally enough. As for my apartment, I am pulling my hair out. I'm getting pretty depressed about it. But... The new stove is attached to a temporary gas tank... but there is a hole that a plate goes over that is open on the back of the oven and I can't figure how to light the oven--not that I should light the oven with the back kinda open like that. So I can cook stovetop, but I have no kitchen counters yet--it is awfully difficult. We are ordering a lot of food out, yes. Luckily one thing that Egypt usually gets right is delivery... but I do love to cook and I'm missing it... ps--if you want to use email my addy is endanubis@aol.com!

More pleasantly. Egyptology. I love mummies. Not just Egyptian mummies either. Bog mummies, Inca mummies, Chinchorro mummies. *sigh* Anyway, I am also interested in ancient Egyptian culture and language, but paleopathology is very exciting to me. I'm more into physical anthropology rather than cultural. But there are also the aspects of religious / magical ritual (folk religion rather than state) I find fascinating, symbolism in color, amulets and the relationship between the writing and other cultural aspects. I think I'm rambling. Bleh. All this sleep has gotten to me! Btw, why does your arm hurt?

Well, let's see... I did a map of Kharga Oasis, and for another book, I recreated a floor plan for the Buluq Museum (the old Egyptian Museum), I've also done some illustrations (hand), and some designs in Illustrator. Then everything else is research, and bibliographies and things like that... I don't live in Zamalek any more, now I live in Maspero--right on the Nile. These are just different areas of the city proper, not suburbs. My area is also loosely "Downtown". I quite like the name Maspero, though, because it was a French Egyptologist who was the Director of Antiquities here at the turn of the century.

Hiya, thanks for leaving osirisbed a note about me! German language - yeah, that's a really important language for Egyptologists. Look into any book about Egyptology and you'll find plenty of Germans in the Bibliography. Me again! There are SO many juice places here in Egypt! You can get fresh juice very inexpensively. Anything you can think of, too. Strawberry, mango, melon, guava.... things I haven't heard of. I don't get asked too much about Egyptology, so if there's anything you're dying to know... let 'er rip.
I wrote to Cath, thanks for the advice! It would be nice to 'know' someone else here! :)

Hello... and thanks for stopping by! I am glad that you are enjoying my (mis)adventures. You're right on time for the birthday though, it is tomorrow--but no cake will be made in the house of no kitchen. Why German? It's a big scholarship language. Well, a real Egyptology degree usually includes: ancient Egyptian in all it's glorious forms (including Coptic), German, French, and usually one other ancient language--or Arabic. Aren't you glad you asked? I'll fill you in on anything else you want to know... (btw, my friend is teaching English in Taiwan...)

Hello - yes, that is Manchester United. Not that I'm a big fan, but I wanted a football jersey and my little neighbour at the time told me that they were the best to get :) I figured a 7 year old would be the best to ask!

NO Silly! I tired calling again, and I couldn't get through. What you don't want to talk to me lol. Fine! You could just tell me to piss off. LoL. Naw, I think you were on the phone the night before, and yesterday you were online. But that wasn't what I was going to tell you! I was going to chicken butt that's what! hahahahaha Sorry I'm a bit out there today. Hopefully I get to talk to you later on tonight??? I get my minutes after nine so umm if I don't get to talk to you not maybe some time soon!

hrm. oddly enough, just yesterday, while watching Black Hawk Down (FANTASTIC), i noticed how hard it is to tell the difference between caucasian males with shaved heads. as in the only people i could identify immediately were josh hartnett, orlando bloom, ewan mcgregor, and this other guy that kicks ass whose name i can never remember (re: famous people are easily recognizable). everyone else (and there were MANY other main characters) looked pretty much the same. but that doesn't mean i didn't WANT to know who was who, or that i thought the any of them less worthy... gah. people are stupid. and this note has turned stupid. so um, yeah. bye?

“ouais mlle? ça va?” I was doing okay, but people can change your mood so quickly. I was really confused on the ouais. I don’t know what that means. And I was trying to find out. But the translators online weren’t any help and I believe rurisue still has my French dictionary, and if she doesn’t then it is in my car some where.

Well, I suppose there is something else to do in Finland apart from drinking, shopping and eating chocolate... *lol* The Finns eat most ice-cream in the whole Europe, I bet you didn't know that :). In winter you can ski (none of the actual Finns ski anymore though) and in summer you can go to beach. Haha. I really don't know. Finnish people aren't known of eating chocolate actually. Salmiakki is more popular. And yeah, we eat rye bread.

I just wanted to let you know, that it doesn't really matter what you put on my cd. I do like all music. I think of it as a way to get to know you better, what kind of music you like, and what kind of music you want me to hear. I hope that answers your question. Ohh also, I do understand that you weren't home. You told me that you weren't going to be home once you figure out something to do. So when you didn't answer I figure you found out something to do. So it's coo.

Here's another Canadian fact for you: The FBI had an official file on Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau and according to some of the notes, planned on assasinating him. Why? Because during his time in office, Canada experienced a higher rate of economic growth as compared to their American comrades (the Canadian dollar was at $1.01 CAD to that of the USD!), he also usurped Nixon's visit to China (making Trudeau the first North American leader to set foot in one of the world's largest Trade partner), he openly snubbed relations with the U.S. and tried to open the Canadian economy to other partners (which threatened the now U.S. domination in our markets). He was a great leader and you know what, Samedi, he died on my birthday!

i think dLand is on eastern time. because your latest g-book signing says after 5am, and it's only 3:38am right now. that being said, don't worry about being pushy. i actually kind of like it, as it means you're doing what you want, and you're not letting people take advantage of you or ruin your plans. go, you! so long as you don't cuss me out or something (and even then, i'd just say 'okay' and deal with it), i'll be fine. i'm tougher than i look, you know. it's all them cookies. magical things, they are. and for anyone who doesn't believe me, well, then tough cookies to them. muah ha ha.

|
| from
rurisue : |

ahah, heh... yeah, okay. it's because i was thinking about how it was the only one i hadn't won, but then i didn't phrase the sentence that way and it ended up being a typo. sometimes my fingers work quicker than my brain. although that kind of typo always confused me. would it be considered an misspelling or a grammatical error? side note: i always think i spell 'misspell' wrong.

haha. wouldn't you know it? i all had this hotmail window open for forever, right? and i was going to send you this message, and it was great and stuff, only i got distracted because i'm listening to steve stevens, and then when i went back i just wasn't in that mood to write it all out anymore. so i closed the window after sending you that cheap-o e-mail (those hyphens made the last two words look weird). but the minute i closed out, i got all talky again! so here i am, in your notes, because i still had the dLand window open... and blah blah blah. i'd like to work on your layout later this week. it'd be fuuuuuun. wait. um. it'll be fuuuuuun. much better. you know, i never had a problem with tenses. or directions. thank goodness. because if i did, i'd annoy the hell out of myself (which is a good thing, considering. kinda like the exorcist, but not.). shelly still gets her left and rights confused, and georgia always says 'down here' no matter which direction you're headed, and it always bothers me. i try not to let it, but it's just inevitable. i suppose it's one of those 'well, i don't have a problem with it, and it's common sense so you shouldn't either' things. but then again, i suppose not everyone has common sense. but that's weird, too, because both shelly and georgia have way more common sense than i do. ahhh, well, sometimes you just ramble and forget everything you were going to write, and then you just say bye. bye.

Happy birthday, I know I'm a little late but I didn't have the access to computer earlier. And no, I'm not in Italy, just in Kokkola-city, Villa Elba is the place were the Lithuanians are camping. At parties... Well, here there's not much of free booze at there, so people bring their own drinks. So I drink whatever I've got for that night. Now I had Black Cat (Vodka and salmiakki, yum, tastes like some medicine for a cough *lol*) and Bacardi Breezers. It sort of depends. Usually I have just cider. I always write long notes for you. :)

(poppyfish was excellent about it, though, she's so awesome!) um, yeah. also, i'm a lazy bum (like you already know), and so i'm hoping you'll actually do most of the work, and i'll just help you out with the nitty gritty details. whee! it's gonna be fun! and i don't have much in the way of snack foods, but i do have cookies! Well I have to wait till 20 before I can buy some really strong stuff but that's okay. Just funny that you could buy fifty bottles of wine but not one bottle of booze if you're 18 or 19.

Hey, I actually always write just "disco" not "discothéque", probably because in Finnish we just say "disco" instead of "diskoteekki" which is the Finnish for "discothéque". Interesting *lol*. And about the number grades, 10=excellent, 9=very good, 8=good, 7=satisfactory, 6=passable, 5=passed, 4=failed. So it's sort of like 10&9 would be A, 8 would be B, 7 would be C, 6&5 would be D or something like that... :)

Oh, man-if-i-wasn't-so-tired-and-uncreative-this-would-be-a-much-more-colorful-string-of-swearwords, it's THIS weekend, isn't it? well, that's good, i suppose. at least i'll be seeing you sooner! and um, er, what else was i going to say? ahhh, yes. of COURSE i'd love to do your layout. and i'll even refrain from using all caps for the rest of this note. they look so ugly sometimes, but you know, asterisks only work sometimes, but then you run the risk of grammar confusion (what with parentheses and periods and commas and whatnot)(or sometimes my lack of, like in the last sentence). or something. hey, are you still going to just be coming up on friday, or on thursday night? and also, rrhs is performing As You Like It this weekend as well, and Shelly and i were really wanting to see it. gah. why do things always have to happen at the same time? i suppose that's a good thing sometimes, like you know, how the big bang (or whatever you want to call it) happened everywhere, all at once, but still. i wish my schedule could even itself out a bit. by the way, did you know that you're wonderful? okay, bye.

but my computer says today is the 31st! which is all confusing and stuff, because Shelly started school today, and i could have sworn that she was supposed to start on the first... but then i checked http://time.gov and it says it's the 31st, too. and then i was actually going to upload it and everything just in case, but then i checked my wall calendar and that also says it's the 31st. i am so lost. but i figure i'm a lazy bum anyway, so i'll just update my layout sometime later today, preferably just a bit before midnight. and there's a movie on comedy central, and i don't know what it is, but it's funny, and that annoys me because i want to be able to watch it again later on, but i don't know what it is! and i don't even know the actors in it! the digital cable thingie thing says it's 'win ben stein's money' but obviously that's incorrect. and actually, the only reason i even switched it to comedy central was for the game show, and now it turns out there's this slightly amusing movie with an unknown name that'll be driving me crazy all week until i forget about it. and yeah, we had that whole conversation about trap doors and secret rooms and stuff and stuff. good stuff. ta!

Tu étais à leur concert en 2001 ?

(i had to go back through a couple of entries.) hm. i had so much to say, and now it seems i've forgotten some of it. or most of it. ah, yes. i'm sorry that you're sad. i've actually felt the same way before about a diary that i read. i wonder if it's the same one? and if Hyuen Jung notices you getting sick at the same time as you, well... i think maybe ya'll will have to hire someone to watch over your health. oh, wait, never mind. you NOTICE when you're sick, you just don't do anything about it... grr. by the way, when are you going to the hospital? i think you should have a check-up, even if it's just for the sake of having a check-up. did you know shelly goes like, twice a year? i found that so odd. i mean, she goes to the doctor as often as other people go to the dentist! (she also goes to the dentist at least twice a year.) of course, the last time i went to the doctor was when i fell from 25 feet. and the last time i even SAW a dentist (that i know of, maybe that guy i saw walking ealier has oral fixations i don't know about) was many, many moons ago. yes. well, then. i still don't remember what else i had to say... oh, yes! living arrangements. that's so cute, the whole library thing. i want one, too. i actually want my library to be by my secret lab, the kind where you have to push/pull/do something to a secret lever-thingie and then you slide down a swirly fun-thingie and then you're in the lab. kinda like on casper. i was going to say 'like the salt mines in austria' but then i remembered that as far as i know, you've never been there. but i'm sure that you will, someday. and hopefully i'll be there. also, you KNOW that if you weren't a boy i'd love to live with you, right? i mean, i figure we've got similar tastes in decor (as in i KNOW we've got similar tastes). and we'd obviously get along famously (isn't that a wonderful phrase? i'm so glad i got to use it!). and basically, it would kick ass like everybody's business (i've given up on saying 'like nobody's business' because honestly, if i'm saying it to someone in a public place then obviously it's become everybody's business). but there's Joel to factor in, and well... yeah. i know you understand, and that's another thing that makes you wonderful. yep. and um, guess what? i think i'm done. ta!

Hi there :). I suppose I should just tell my mom. It'll make things so much easier. It's just not the easiest thing to go and say "Hi mom, did you know I'm a witch?". Haha. Well, thanks a lot for your concern anyways :D

Mmm... "terrible" means the same thing here as in Rhône-Alpes (so that's where you live? are you French? or English? yeah I know, I'm too curious...:)) except that it sounds more like 60s slang to me! oh... and thanks for adding me to your buddy list. :)

damnit, that's just not right! stupid professor. next time, just show off your knowledge and mention all the things that you know about and like, NOBODY else does, okay? i mean, the freakin idiot can't even answer your questions half [if not all] of the time... grr. i hate it when teachers do that. and even more when students laugh about it... you want i should kick some ass? i'm in an ass-kicking mood...

i checked my email, i posted an entry, and later on i'll be writing to you. and i washed my car, and vacuumed it, and even dusted the inside. and i tried to get those bugs that are stuck in the back light, but they're really, really stuck. and so i figure they're just there to stay. and now i'll be going to sleep. nighty. (do you get that achey feeling when you look at the sky?)

Oh GOD, I'm crying right now. I was so fucking worried, you wouldn't even believe it. Well, actually, you probably would, as you were undoubtedly a million times worse off than me... But I just read your entry, and now I have to go and edit mine, and I feel so relieved right now... *sigh*

well thank goodness you *didn't* delete it, or else i'd be highly upset. that describes it perfectly. by the way, did you know that procrastination is a sign of perfectionism? found out the other day in psychology. makes sense, in a no-sense kind of way. and um, happy late valentine's day. and guess what? i got a haircut. okay, bye.

i noticed that you changed from 'the eighth day' to 'international metropolitan'. interesting. and now i keep thinking of titles with the word laboratory in them... by the way, i have that entire word association list. apparently trillian keeps very detailed logs that go back to when you *first* download it. so if you'd like a copy, drop me a line, yo.

why does it not surprise me that you've got so many odd favorites listed? well, not odd, really. uncommon. but yeah, pretty funny. and apparently, since you have a '&' in your listing for belle & sebastian, it says that nobody has listed it. something to do with the code, i'm thinking. if you change the '&' to 'and' you'll be among hundreds of other who enjoy their music, myself not included on that list, although i am quite fond of the group. i kept spelling 'fond' as 'frond' and it took me four tries to get it right. FOUR! i think i'm going to stop typing now. but it's guaranteed that i'll be back. [dun dun duuun]
