from rainhammers :

from rainhammers :
where are you, exactly?
from likeaforest :
the first is copenhagen, the second is stockholm. it seems perpetually rainy in scandinavia, but for the most part we had very good luck. also -- we went on a canal ride, just as you suggested. (it was pretty nice.)
from rainhammers :
i'm glad you unlocked. i can't wait to know where you go! portland's a possibility, right?
from rainhammers :
you've been locked for a long time. [email protected]
from fuschia :
aw, what's your password? email me.. [email protected] i think
from mangotuesday :
hello my friend. do you like sufjan. i want to make you a mix cd. loveeeeeeeeeeeee.
from stellarose :
hey, sorry i'm such a total schmuck and haven't replied yet. i work at a free-press magazine. it's kind of a lifestyle guide type thing, where we cover everything from home improvement to extreme sports and local celebs and stuff. you locked your diary! hmm.
from likeaforest :
omigosh. that first picture is seriously amazing! is that in the valley?
from rainhammers :
i'd like a dvd of the transformers.
from fuschia :
oh! i have read 'the fuck up'. i'm trying to get into 'chinese takeout', another novel of his. i did enjoy his style.
from fuschia :
i'm not going to be there for school or anything, so i won't be living there. i'm only visiting my boyfriend for a few days hopefully in june. sorry if i misled you! i'll be in the berkshires i guess.. seeing as how it's the berkshire theatre festival that he's working on. it's in stockbridge, and great barrington.. ahh i don't know where anything is. the yahoo map isn't helping me any. but hopefully i'll be able to rent a car and drive around..
from mangotuesday :
art and everything you said. that i couldn't have said better. i can't wait until i am done with school and can be a good penpal. well wishes everyday for you.
from fuschia :
ohh yay. i'm excited to go..
from fuschia :
oh! if mass. resembles the motorcycle diaries then i'll be okay when i go there in a few months. but i think i'm headed towards the eastern part, 40 minutes from albany. oh well.
from rainhammers :
you were going to china when i was moving to portland. and now i'm studying linguistics with the possibility of TESL, yet i am pretty sure i don't want to teach english. sighs sighs and more sighs. money is a terrible thing.
from mangotuesday :
kites and speaking clearly. how much longer do you have to be around these negative energy people? because you deserve pretty and true.
from paperfriend :
rawbeanage did not really pass away. i don't know why i made that joke.
from sls :
wow, your new entry about nostalgia and those 90's tv shows and pre-college idealism and angst and the feeling of expansiveness before we were 'grown up'... i am so there with you. melancholy, especially in spring (especially if one listens to neutral milk hotel), is stronger than gravity. xox siri
from mangotuesday :
oh! i just got your prettypenpal email. kindred.
from mangotuesday :
oh the days of felicity and i just read sls/s note about picaresque. it is so good. i steal lines all over my mangotuesday diary. [which is where i'm hanging out alot these days.] i hope you got my last two emails and that you are love and rockets. do you like elliott smith ??? what music are you missing??? xoxoxo
from vocalfern :
my password isnt working? arrgh! love bee [email protected]
from sls :
shareaza. i just got the decemberists picaresque in its entirity there. if the tain ever finishes downoading and you'd like a copy, i could burn and mail you one. it is so amazing!
from rainhammers :
yes, the year has flown by. and i really love it here and it still feels right. for the first time in my life. and i've tried lots of places. and as for the writing things, craigslist!
from mangotuesday :
my most favourite person in china. you have an email coming your way soon. and your book was sent on the twenty secondish of march. [in case if forgot to mention that. ] i hope you are okay. [and. my email. onemoretime. is [email protected] if i should be granted a password.] love and mix cds.
from vocalfern :
i forgot. [email protected] <3<3
from vocalfern :

from sls :
ooh, i'd love the password, please? xoxo ([email protected])
from likeaforest :
i'd like the password, too. (please.)
from rainhammers :
may i? [email protected]
from mangotuesday :
oh no. you're shut. are you okay? i hope so. all my brightest rays. to you. [ and.and. do you like the decemberists? ]
from vocalfern :
everything happened. we need to remember that throughout life, we belong to no one and no one ever belongs to us. i was strung so tightly to someone, now it's beginning to unravel slowly like a braid of hair coming undone.
from vocalfern :
hong qua? my phoenetic spelling! it means red flower in mandarin chinese, i am told. though i don't know. have you seen motorcyle diaries yet? i swooned in spanish. bee bzz
from likeaforest :
i was roundaboutly told that my class's quietness was my very own fault, too. but then again, the person who suggested this was also very adamant in her belief that i should force students to talk by calling on them at random, which i think is sort of evil and unfair (at least i certainly hated teachers who did that when i was in school.). so i am not quite sure how to solve this yet, but perhaps next quarter for the first few classes i'll insist they talk if they want participation points for the day. the trouble is, whatever you come up with you have to do it right away, at the beginning of the quarter/semester, because trying to change things later would be too weird and hard.
from rainhammers :
thank you :)
from fuschia :
oooh. i enjoy these crush update entries. keep them coming.
from southeast :
for sure. send me an email or a note with your email address and i'll give you the password. lovelovelove. [also. just in case you didn't know. lacienega, has an e between the n and g that i think you might have missed when you added it....] ps. do you not want me to send the book in the mail because it would take too long? i can express it!!!
from rainhammers :
i was wondering...if you wanted to make your font a teeny bit bigger? it's hard for me to read.
from rainhammers :
literally explode.
from vocalfern :
why hello my favorite words are hong qua if i spelt it right. <3 bee
from mangotuesday :
portland! i really think you would like it here. music at the doug fir and the roseland and the international film festival and stumptown coffee and powells books and seaplane couture and industrial southeast and tofu scrambles and diy fashion shows and green party national co chair neighbors and bicycles and bridges and pica and core sample and jupiter affair art openings and photography classes at pnca and knitting circles. and then you could be in our bookclub and i would have someone to talk about art history with. also. i would be happy to send persepolis electronically. but i don't know how. do you? if not. can i send by mail? or is it very snail like? love love.
from rainhammers :
hmm. if you already have a guitar, get the dvd player. if you don't, get the guitar. you can write songs about how lonely you are without a dvd player to keep you entertained. :) i'm starting the linguistics degree next month, taking intro and a structure of english class. i'll have to take a non-indoeuropean language, too...i was thinking japanese, my grandfather suggested chinese, since they're "going to take over the world" someday...what do you suggest? i'm thinking they're all probably equally hard.
from mangotuesday :
guess what. i just finished persepolis part two! want me to send it to you? xoxoxo
from dangerspouse :
Hi! I just happened to stumble across your diary and wanted to tell you how fascinating I think it is. Your spare writing style really adds a nice flavor to what must be a wonderful period of adventure in your life. Good luck to you!
from mangotuesday :
you like marjane satrapi! i do too. my persepolis pages were all tearstained. have you read the second one? love, mangotuesday
from fuschia :
ooh, you kind of pinpointed why i'd like to be a teacher, or at least grade papers. i would probably cry too, reading those.
from mangotuesday :
all my love and paper airplanes.
from fuschia :
i identify. i was told last week that i am intimidating because of the color of my hair. but i think that's silly. i don't want people approaching me who think hair color is intimidating anyway. but yeah-i do give excuses like "i have to stay in and wash my hair tonight". what does that make me? i just really hate washing my hair.
from crispystar :
i forgot to answer your guitar question. i would definitely get some book that teaches you chords, unless you wanted to just use the internet. but i say yes, get a book.
from crispystar :
hello. i've been meaning to respond to the last note you left me. so now i am. how long are you going to be in china? i'm going to start my linguistics program in march, if all goes as planned. one requirement is taking a non-indo-european language. i was thinking japanese. i also am considering arabic, since they both are equally difficult, i'm sure. i might have more of an aesthetic appreciation for japanese. how are you doing at learning chinese?
from fuschia :
i don't have the answers to those questions, but i can admit that i am smitten with your background color. my favourite shade of green.
from virtu :
wow. i seriously like your diary. i like the feeling it gives me.
from tracqs :
11/09 : I was encouraged recently... "God can't do anything with your bitterness, but he can do something with emptiness. So let yourself be empty and just acknowledge that you are."
from dead-slug :
indeed
from paperfriend :
you are welcome. thank you for the note. where did you go to art school?
from likeaforest :
yes, i do go to davis, but i live in sacramento. who knew we were shipping off so many of our students to china? for the record, i think it's really exciting and impressive that you're actually living and working IN china right now, by the way! and i've been meaning for months to respond to that very nice introductory email you sent me, and i'm sorry for being a total jerk about not writing you back. i hadn't forgotten about it, i am just notoriously, hopelessly awful about emails, so please don't take it personally. i am very good, however, at letter writing and talking on aim (although perhaps you don't currently have the latter?). but in case you ever do, you should im me sometime: thesesawvisions. no joke.
from fuschia :
yeah, me too. lately i don't have anything at all to write, though.
from crispystar :
what's weird is that it seems my skin has stopped breaking out now that i'm 25. see, you're building up your 23 with lots of events and then 24 will perpetuate the momentum. it'll be great. where should i go for labor day weekend? canada? seattle? the coast? california? i just want to get in my car and go.
from novembre :
i agree. but my crash happened in SF, on the belly of one of those giant imposing hills. masonic cross street, people leaning out of their tall pastel victorians to get a better look at us huddled on the sidewalk. so surreal.
from onepinksock :
if you like "young adult" books (which are definitely aimed at the 12-17 age group) and are a neil gaiman fan, you must read "coraline."
from novembre :
aww, yay. too bad i always censor my comments on my profile; i never think they wholly explain why i like certain diaries so much. too much pressure. but i'll wave anyway.
from crispystar :
how long are you going to be in san fran? i've been dying to take a road trip down there! i like portland, but need to explore explore explore the coast! i could decide to move to SF, you know? the coffee here is good, and i do like that everyone drinks it all the time. tonight i'm going to see juliana :)
from novembre :
(oops, left this on my notes by mistake. i am one big walking mistake lately!): lake merritt is between lakeshore and grand avenues, next to downtown oakland. it is quite lovely. do not attempt to swim in said lake, though. there are other lakes for swimming!
from likeaforest :
i live in sacramento, actually (it's two hours away). but i have big plans of moving to the bay area once i'm finished with course work. oh!
from novembre :
lessee. there happens to be a magical lake with unicorns living underneath it, surrounded by little hills and atriums and trees. and too many geese. this lake boasts not only paddleboats and kyak rentals, but CANOE rentals as well. you can see which way i lean.
from novembre :
i happen to have a couch in oakland. it is surrounded by boxes right now, because my roommate and i have been very slothlike with the unpacking.
from spitfire79 :
hmmmm.
from novembre :
my diary is locked for the time being because i happened upon a very nosy family member. to read novembre, just say "hello" twice.
from novembre :
rats. i'll monitor the sky and wave when i think you are above me.
from likeaforest :
if you move to california, we could start a east coast/midwest transplants support group!
from novembre :
hey! berkeley? come to the bay area and hang out with me. and then go to europe. or take me with you to europe, either way.
from dead-slug :
congrats on the art show. i hope its going well. i'm curious as to what you create. is there a way i could see?
from crispystar :
oh my gosh, did you get a new job? did you leave your office?
from crispystar :
I went to St. Thomas. I had all these dreams of playing guitar and painting and having this truly creative outlet inspired by all the nature. Also, I was excited to push myself feel comfortable while experiencing discomfort--a place where being dirty and sweaty is inevitable and wearing makeup is pointless. It didn't turn out quite as positive as I had hoped, and I was disappointed. It could depend on the island, but chances are, you won't want to stay long. I don't regret going, because ultimately I learned that it's not the "paradise" everyone says it is, but if I knew now and had the chance again, I wouldn't go.
from parlance :
I knew someone with a nickname very similar to yours. Just replace the 7 with an 8 and you've got it :)
from crispystar :
*sigh* I definitely can empathize with you. I make pro/con lists all the time, but logic never really triumphs over emotion, or that *longing* that will grow more and more fierce...and eventually pull you in the right direction. I'm really hoping I find some kind of satisfaction in Portland...Like the inhabitants of the West are going to be able to understand all my weirdness and finally I won't be so weird after all.
from novembre :
regarding decisions: i've decided to get my fiction mfa in oakland!
from likeaforest :
o gosh, did you really use a coin? at this point i've convinced my self, coin flipping or no, that trying to transfer (if possible) is the way to go. it sounds really exhausting and scary but also sorta great and exciting. [since you live in the area, i'm very nosey -- did you go to one of the 5 colleges?] o! and, unrelated but: i thought that last entry was fabulous. xo. jolie
from parlance :
Are you okay, though?
from tracqs :
Enjoying your thoughts. I have found that letting life happen and not forcing it to has been working much better for me. Reading your post (3/11/04) made me stop and think about how much calmer my life is when I let it all go. Currently struggling with a broken friendship, and the "gravity of something greater" is obviously pulling her away. Thanks for letting me in to see a glimpse of something familiar... and in turn, helps me breathe a little easier.
from softblossoms :
hi, thanks for the note! that book is so astonishing, so mystical. perfect for escaping the horrors of office work. :)
from likeaforest :
one other thing: i was curious about the mausoleum artwork thing you mentioned, but my feeble little google searches didn't come up with anything. would you happen to have a link?
from likeaforest :
!!! i've been reading your journal, but somehow didn't realize that you lived in western mass. i never actually ventured over to greenfield, although i was somewhat curious, as the national gravestone association (i think that's the name?) is there. the idea of dropping by and picking up one of their "i break for old graveyards!" bumperstickers was terribly tempting. oo.
from crispystar :
yes, she was. :)
from crispystar :
it was just my assumption, for some reason...
from crispystar :
it's funny, but for some reason i always thought you were a boy. a kind of girlish, sensitive, thoughtful boy, but a boy nonetheless. i don't know why, exactly.
from crispystar :
hey, what musician did you see/hear?
from songaday :
delmhorst?
from dead-slug :
aww, i love that note you left me. its so nice. you pretty much captured my life right now. :) why did you decide not to continue studying art?
from dead-slug :
hey, i noticed you had me as a favorite. thanks. i like your diary as well.
