6/11/09 - That's just thoughtless behaviour without malicious intent, but which really does hurt. I'm sorry, sweetie. It makes you wonder if people really do think of the consequences of their actions.

2009/9/25 - When Ron and I emptied, or started the emptying, of my mother's house last fall, I had boxes of books from my grandfather's library, all Jewish in nature, that I couldn't find homes for. I just left them there, hoping that the real estate agent could help. There were some pretty old books. I feel badly that I couldn't do more, but, like you, I had never bothered with them. They had no meaning for me, other than that they once belonged to my grandfather. It's weird. But they're gone, and I don't even know where.

Sept. 28/08 - My mom was having a helluva time filling her pill boxes as well, so the pharmacy started sending the boxes to her prefilled. You must have that service available to you. Also, many pharmacies now prepackage the pills in blisterpacks. I know that my in-laws get them this way. Check with the kupat cholim. There must be a better way and at least it will cause you a little bit less anxiety. ((((hugs))))

10/1/07 - Blog is short for web log. I guess what you do with it is your business, be it a diary, a journal (same thing), a place for a political rant, whatever. What I have here at D-land in my mind is a diary, what I have over at Xanga is a blog.

23/12/06 - Hi! * waves * I can't believe the rudeness of someone, stealing your buggy like that. If you could bring along some small animal, such as a poisonous snake, to leave guarding your cart, maybe a scorpion or even a small dog with very large and sharp teeth, that might discourage theft.

Oct.28/06 - I'm impressed by your blog and that you are writing it bilingually. That must take a lot of mental effort, doing the translation so that you don't make the same mistake you feel the person translating the Flylady articles is doing. The soft addiction thing is quite true. I know I spend way too much time at the computer, and a lot of it is totally unproductive. Thanks for linking to the article. I really like your website design.

May 23 - Yay! An entry, at last! First of all, we have had rain non-stop for a week. No running, no walking, no working in the garden. Second, the dress, which I forgot to mention in my entry, was a vintage dress, meaning it was "used" (hence the incredible price I paid for it), and not available in other sizes. It was that dress or no dress. But it's not just that dress I'm concerned about. It's all the other nice things I got when I had lost weight last time. * sigh *

Dump the telly for the entire time that M's gone. Just tell the others, sorry, but it's broken, I've taken it to the shop, and remove it from the room, hide it at your mom's, just get it out of there! Then, before M comes home, it'll be miraculously repaired, it resumes its place in the living room, and hopefully O will have found other things to occupy her from school to suppertime.

4/28 Unfortunately, Eat-More Bars seem to have disappeared off the face of the earth in Sherbrooke, again. Briefly they were available at the Esso station, but are now gone. I did see them and buy one at the Toronto airport on our way to Calgary (I was sorry afterwards: I can’t believe I ate the whole thing!) but didn’t check out the Eat-More situation in Alberta. Perhaps it’s a good thing.

I highly recommend it. I had a great time putting together the clues, which I wrote in verse, incorporating phrases from Sherlock Holmes stories. My son had a great time helping his dad find the clues. He actually cried when he found the present and the game was over. I think I'm going to have to do something similar for his birthday.

2/11/05 I knew someone (I didn't know whom) was going to pick up that particular line and take offence, or at least use it as the basis of an an argument. I'm sure you won't be the last. I know that what I had wasn't clinical depression, it was brought on by circumstance and I knew that the situation would change and I would eventually learn to deal with my environment. It was not a depression that needed medication, but time. However, if I hadn't had those responsibilities to keep me from doing so, it would have been very easy to fall into the "can't-get-out-of-bed" kind of trap that afflicted my colleague. Even so, when we were having our conversation, she sounded to me as though she was trying to convince me that anti-depressants were wonderful and a cureall for all of those different kinds of depression. And that is exactly what she thought she sounded like, judging from her apology a couple of days later.

2/3/05 Nice idea, having your guests date their messages. They say, and I concur, that you don’t get a buzz from your first attempt at smoking pot. You need a build up of the stuff in your system. Also, it is possible that your joint was too stale to be much use. I think I can count on one hand all the times I smoked dope. I never found the effects worth the bother or the discomfort of the smoke inhalation.

1.30.05 - She, Secret Agent Dog, is a trooper. Just the most awesome creature on the planet. (perhaps since I don't have children I pour all my neurotic caretaking and tending and mothering stuff on her - inspite of how much I love and dote on her, she heals!) I'll post a picture of her - likely a lab/basenji mix, but it's a guess.. she's a mutt, a rescue dog, perhaps she's a touch ferral. She's athletic and graceful and runs like the wind. Her behaviors are very catlike, she pounces on reflected light, lazor beams, like a cat. She's fickle and aloof like a cat. She'd never allow us to rough house or play with her - this totally freaks her out. She makes a strange kackling/yodeling sound when she's excited - some say it sounds like a wounded animal. Yet when she's actually wounded she's very stoic and I don't think I've ever heard her yelp, even.. despite her many follies. She won second place in the Tennis Ball catch at the K9 games last year and an honorable mention in the frisbee catch (which she wasn't allowed to enter for some technicality - but we were assured that HAD she been allowed to enter she would have won.) She is fearful of adult.. she flinches and backs away. She LOVES kids.. she is attracted to them... finds the smallest ones on the planet and gently puts her ball at their feet and waits (it's so sweet.. the parents in town bring their children to the park where we play in the summer JUST so they can play with her.. to acquaint the little ones to dogs so they won't grow up fearful and/or just to entertain the little ones.) oh.. er... ummm... heh.. you asked.... (can you tell I just adore her?) - Zuzu

1.29.05: I used to have terrible neighbors too, I'm SO sorry you have to deal with it. Used to be when people complained about their neighbors I'd think to myself, "get over it, stop being so nosey and worry about your own home." Then I had really bad neighbors and learned a keen lesson in empathy over the situation. Now, with the exception of the business that boarders the back lot, all my neighbors are fabulous. My bad neighbors are gone as of two weeks ago! - Zuzu

What a great story. I've heard that one before, actually. I think it has its origin in the guniea worm infestation, which is disgusting and true. You're a very resourceful mom. I don't know if I would have thought to do that.

I was just talking to the travel agent this morning about exactly the same thing. She was telling me how the father of an Italian friend of hers who lived through the war in Italy started saving scraps of bread in his dresser drawers against famine during wartime as he started suffering from Alzheimer's, not that your mom is in that boat. It's like my dad not being able to throw out anything that had an ounce of use left in it. Same mentality.
