The Horrible Truth About Fruitbats

I was born on Halloween, 1959, in a tiny town in New Hampshire. I'm very attached to a six-foot-two-inch ichthyologist named Dr. Bruce.

My favorite diaries:

comments: Yeah, we're twins. Except I'm ten years older. But we both really like Alvin Lee. Ur, I mean Arthur Lee!

comments: Do you ever feel like someone is leading a parrallel life to yours? She's a redhead! She has a 1959 rancher! She has cute animals (Italian Greyhounds instead of rabbits!) and she's spiritual! Geez. I want to meet this woman!!

My favorite music:

Cocteau Twins
comments: ...and Dead Can Dance, This Mortal Coil, Love Spirals Downwards...
British Folk Revival
comments: I love all those morbid ancient British ballads and the updates done on them in the '60's and '70's by bands like Pentangle are superb. And I love Nick Drake, too.
Screamin' Jay Hawkins
comments: Howlin' Wolf, Earl Hooker, Fats Domino....
Mission of Burma
comments: ...and the Maps, O+, Big Dipper, Scruffy The Cat, V. You'd have to have lived in Boston in the '80's...
Siouxie...
comments: ...and the Cramps. and Iggy. I love Iggy. And the Ramones. Sentimental value. Oh, and did I mention I love old blues music? Dr. John.....mmmmmmmm.......

My favorite movies:

Withnail & I
comments: What can I say? It's the '60's male version of my '80's female young adulthood.
Bookstalls
comments: A little known film by Joseph Cornell.
Any pre-1950's horror movies
comments: I used to stay up and watch these on late night TV with my great aunt Louise, and then my parents would wonder why I was afraid of the dark.
Maya Deren's experimental films
comments: ...and her films on Voodoo in Haiti as well.
Oscar and Lucinda
comments: It's a visually gorgeous film. In my childhood I was like Oscar. In my adulthood I've become like Lucinda.

My favorite authors:

Elizabeth Knox
comments: I'm convinced this woman really has met angels.
Kerouac
comments: If it weren't for Jack Kerouac I'd still be living in some little town in New Hampshire, probably working at Wal-Mart. I also love Lawrence Ferlinghetti.
Banana Yoshimoto
comments: She's haunting and invigorating at the same time.
W.Y. Evans-Wentz
comments: He writes very succintly on two of my favorite subjects - faeries and Tibet.
P.B. Shelley
comments: Man, just reading about his wild life is inspiring, never mind his poetry!

update: Still fixing stuff as fast as I can!. As you may have noticed, Diaryland is being renovated, which is still in progress. Bugs are all being fixed. The new design should work on phones much better than the old one, and pages in the members area are being converted to the new look one by one, so they can be tested. Please email help@diaryland.com with any new problems, but things that are already bugs should be fixed soon!
