Not much to tell. I teach, write, sing, crochet, and generally love good clean fun. This is my second attempt at keeping a blog. Let's hope I can keep it up better than the last one.

All those classical guys

comments:  I'm not into most contemporary pop or rock. I'm a classical fan all the way. Give me a great symphony orchestra, an awesome soloist, and I'm in 7th heaven.

All those jazz guys

comments:  I'm also into classic jazz: Armstrong, Basie, Brubeck, Goodman, Hampton, Miller, Holiday, et. al.

Classic R&B

comments:  I'm talking 50's and 60's R&B, Motown, Spector, Stax, Philly soul. When music was clean and had a positive message, and the artists didn't have to cuss to get noticed.

My favorite movies:

Wizard of Oz

comments:  Not quite Baum's book but the best fantasy-adventure movie of all time. And you have to love the ingenious costumes, makeup, and special FX.

Color Purple

comments:  Timeless tale of a woman's journey to self-discovery, despite the trauma of battering, browbeating, and being separated from her children and sister.

Star Wars

comments:  Betrayal, valor, fall from grace, redemption. It's more than your average space opera, but those battle scenes are awesome.

Dinosaur

comments:  Disney computer animated tale. I loved the look of this movie though the plot was sort of canned. Still an eyepopper!

Land Before Time

comments:  Okay, so it's a kid's movie, but the story is timeless, almost spiritual.

My favorite authors:

Nikki Giovanni

comments:  I met her some years ago, and I have an autographed copy of one of her books. She is one of the first contemporary black poets I truly admire

Cornel West

comments:  Since reading RACE MATTERS, I've been a West fan. He's one of the foremost black scholars.

Jonathan Kozol

comments:  I teach and can so identify with Kozel's experiences in the classroom. I wish the politicians and education policy makers listen to him more. We'd have fewer problems in schools.

Maya Angelou

comments:  What else can I say? If anything, I'll reach for ANY of her books. I've read and re-read her autobio so many times I lost count.
