Hopeful Monsters

I have a book of theories. One theory is of "Hopeful Monsters". They are the member of a species that bridges the gap between before and after. Through mutation, they are different from all the rest of their kind. Like the first bird to grow wings. I've always been fond of that idea. I like to think of myself as a "Hopeful Monster". It just seeems fitting. Besides, I would have loved to have been the first to fly.

My favorite diaries:

no-answers profile - diary
comments: Even if she has no answers, she asks all the right questions. Witty and charming.
splorch profile - diary
comments: Okay, so she called me colored poultry. Won't hold it against her. But she does like Buffy - so she must rock. C'mon, just look at her name. It screams coolness.
pixaholic profile - diary
comments: There are some diaries you just need to read. No questions asked. Take my word for it.
lizardspace profile - diary
comments: How can you not like a diary called lizardspace? Just too cool.
canadiangrrl profile - diary
comments: She tugs at my heartstrings. And she's from my favorite country. Excellent combination.
sexploration profile - diary
comments: Because, even though I never update anymore, she still keeps me on her "favorites" list. Also, because I think tonight she needs a buddy. So I'll make her one of mine.

My favorite music:

DJ Sinergy
comments: He can say more with music than I could ever say with words. Musically - and personally- a powerful presence.
Charlie Parker
comments: Or actually, Jazz in general. I chose The Bird only because his CD is closest to me.
LadySmith Black Mambazo
comments: First heard them with Paul Simon (another fav). Rocked my soul. I actually like African, Afro-Peruvian, and Latin music in general ... but, again, this CD is within sight.
Dave Matthews
comments: I would like to one day have a cup of tea with Dave Matthews.
Gypsy Kings
comments: Hauntingly beautiful. As soon I hear them, I think of Miami. And guava cream cheese bagels.

My favorite movies:

Almodovar
comments: Any movie by this man I think is a sheer joy to watch.
Fight Club and Dogma
comments: Two movies that should be required viewing in all universities.
The Shining
comments: This was the first movie to scare the hell out of me.
Say Anything
comments: Child of the Eighties. And a hopeless romantic. Consequently, I love John Cusack movies.
Like Water for Chocolate
comments: I know probably everyone loves this movie - but it's for good reason. It's a damn good movie. I cried like a baby.

My favorite authors:

Pablo Neruda
comments: "love is a journey with drowning air and storms of flour" ... The first man I ever truly loved
Stephen Dobyns
comments: "he was exotic/his playing was hypnotic". Gotta dig a man who writes about Thelonious Monk.
ee cummings
comments: "and from this endless end/briefer each our bliss/where seeing eyes go blind/and lips forget to kiss" ... I admire someone who refuses to capitalize their name
Gabriel Marcia Marquez
comments: We all need a little magical realism in our lives.
Harlan Ellison
comments: "I am crying for the loss of all the years I spent without you, the years before I met you, the lost years of my life; and I am crying because there are less years in front of me than all those lost years behind me." ... Stunning. Enough said

update April 6, 2020: Sorry, we just had 8+ hours downtime due to a server problem. Restoring from backups took soooo long, but everything is back and no data was lost. Ay yay yay! Anyhow, hope everyone is well with the virus stuff.
