The Roommate and I walked from Somerville down a way-out-of-the-way route to Harvard, and right down Memorial down the Charles to the next bridge, then at that huge rotary which is forty times as sense-of-direction jamming as Kendall, and obviously back up the Charles to where we would have ended up had we just gone normal to Western anyway, but right up Western this time, and left to Brighton Center.

Which was, of course, boring, but they have that one beautiful building there, a diamond, and I need to see it every year or so, just like the one in Medford.

So Thursday was the Roommate's first time at Fenway, and today was her first time walking around Brighton.

Which is more interesting? I'm going to talk about Brighton anyway.

Who are these people? She had to go to the bathroom, and we passed by a bar, and I told her this is not Somerville. We're not going here. There'll be a place soon.

And there was, but I still felt weird there. 2:00 in the afternoon, and I just got my hair cut last week, but I still felt it wasn't short enough. God save you if you're different and are from Brighton or West Roxbury, and especially if you're not Irish.

We walked the rest of the way, saw that beautiful building, and then down the street to Allston, the first time I ever approached it through the back way, and it was weird getting there. We had done nothing but walk for maybe three hours straight, and all of a sudden it's Allston.

O'Brien's is more our speed, but the Common Ground is our de facto bar, so we had some good food and watched the Sox beat the Yankees for the second time in two days.

It was rewarding, and smoking a butt outside, I got to watch two girls scream you gotta know by Alanis in their car, and two Japanese girls pass by, and hear one comment (after seeing the sign in front of the bar advertising the game) Yankee and Red Sock play today, and then the other went That was yesterday, and then the first said oh as they both walked away. Again--rewarding.

Okay--brace yourselves.

I'm gonna say it again--brace yourselves.

I'm gonna say it again because this is really sad, and I want some more room on the page in case you're a fast scroller.

I'm serious. This is really bad news.

Flyrabbit is closing forever and ever.

And ever.

They're not closing because of anything bad--I talked to the owner and she's just sick of "retail."

So that's the end of that. I thanked her for ten years.

They're closing at the end of the month--right now, everything is 25% off.

So.
