IT FEELS LIKE TODAY

meghan crowley's celebrity playlist

i was putzing around on iTunes today, and i found the page that has all these different "celebrity playlists." it got me thinking: what would i put on my playlist, were i remarkable enough to be asked to do so? good question, i tell myself. i'm sure if iTunes asked for my playlist, they'd be like, "well, you definitely can't have 41 songs..."

1) "old man" by lizz wright
i heard this song while chilling in barnes & noble in one of the overstuffed chairs. it is now number one on my top 25 most played. "old man, take a look at my life. i'm a lot like you. i need someone to love me the whole day through."
2) "when you became king" by alana davis
just a classic, since sophomore year. if i were to do a "best love songs" playlist, this one would be on it. "the willows howl as the lazy sleep."
3) "the close of autumn" by caedmon's call
has remained one of my favorites for the last 7 years. somehow it captures the essence of november. "how would it be, to breathe in deep?"
4) "do not move" by david crowder band
will heaven be like this? "breathe in deeper now."
5) "better than wine" by derek webb
another one for "best love songs." romantic as heck, people. "stay with your friends. i will come speak to you."
6) "father figure" by george michael
ok, so dude's probably pretty dysfunctional but he's got a fantastic voice. "that's all i wanted, just to see my baby's blue eyes shine"
7) "come downstairs and say hello" by guster
i like the falsetto and strings. "don't be shy. say hello."
8) "paced" by katherine schell
i just discovered this girl. she's still in college and plays the piano like a maniac. "i'll be pacing myself for a smile from you only for me."
9) "since you been gone" by kelly clarkson
this one goes out to all the girls who've ever chopped their hair off because of a boy. "i'm so moving on, yeah, yeah!"
10) "boondocks" by little big town
ok, i apologize for the country songs on this list (especially ones entitled "boondocks") but i can't help myself. it's just fantastic and i ate honeysuckle when i was little. "i can taste the honeysuckle and it's still so sweet."
11) "like her" by mandalay
i was listening to this song at freshman orientation, which totally weirds me out, cause now, whenever i hear it, i think about south quad. it's a good thing though; that was a great weekend, even though i had poison ivy all over my face. "can't you give me some room to heal?"
12) "home" by marc broussard
i could eat a big bowl of red beans and rice. "this greyhound is delta-bound, momma."
13) "blue eyes" by cary brothers
God likes to sing this to me. "blue eyes, you don't know the greatness you are."
14) "train song" by mindy smith
also on "best love songs" and i'm just completely obsessed with trains. "i've been waiting for that whistle to sound, like a ghost on the highland, howling proud."
15) "fix you" by coldplay
i'm picturing luminaria and snow. "lights will guide you home and ignite your bones."
16) "teardrop" by massive attack
i can't understand 75% of the words in this song, but man, it feels good. "love is a doing word"
17) "so unsexy" by alanis morisette
me too. "i can feel so unsexy for someone so beautiful."
18) "all these things that i've done" by the killers
thanks 89x, for always providing me with weird music to listen to. "if you can't hold on, hold on."
19) "nobody knows" by live
i'll admit that there are things about this song that i actually hate, but the lyrics are way too good. "nobody really knows how much i love you, baby."
20) "beat it" by michael jackson
how old was i? like negative 2 years old? no matter. "no one wants to be defeated."
21) "something to be proud of" by montgomery gentry
what on EARTH am i doing listening to music like this? "that's a life you can hang your hat on."
22) "out of the woods" by nickel creek
speechlessly in love with this song. "i wish you out of the woods and into the picture with me."
23) "you will be my ain true love" by allison krauss and sting
God bless the appalachian mountains for producing such exceptional music. "the cannon's thunder can't prevail."
24) "husam husam" by the anniversary
i'm pretty sure i just really like how this song sounds. "turn as the earth and be free."
25) "american baby" by dave matthews band
every now and then a dmb song comes along that i just can't do without. "you still make lemonade taste like a summer day."
26) "under pressure" by david bowie and queen
can't get enough. it helped me survive building packet stuffing days. "mm boom ba day"
27) "clap your hands" by the format
this is quite possibly the happiest song on the earth. "i just gotta get myself over me."
28) "this woman's work" by kate bush
one of my faves since i was 15. "i know you have a little life in you yet, i know you have a lot of strength left."
29) "lonestar" by norah jones
possibly the first country song i ever liked (perhaps because it was sung by a jazz singer?). "it's dark, and i think that i would give anything for you to shine down on me."
30) "san jacinto" by peter gabriel
this song turns on halfway through, and i do mean, it turns ON. "i hold the line, the line of strength that pulls me through the fear."
31) "fast cars and freedom" by rascal flatts
this was the moment when i officially became a country music fan, much to my chagrin.
"i'm on that gravel road, look at me."
32) "breathing air again" by robbie seay band
sums up my whole year. "take the time to be ok and laugh a bit along the way."
33) "i run" by rosie thomas
fourth tyler. "i hold my breath past the cemetary. my brother wins; he can hold it much longer than me."
34) "i miss you" by shane & shane
it's the bottom line in my life. "oh i miss you so; the feel of forever."
35) "a million parachutes" by sixpence none the richer
this is always how i feel in the dead of winter. "i miss the warmth, and i miss the sun."
36) "final straw" by snow patrol
yep. "this could be the very minute i'm aware i'm alive."
37) "vito's ordination song" by sufjan stevens
this is the first song i ever heard by sufjan, and i've been hooked ever since. "i always knew you in your mother's arms."
38) "shout" by tears for fears
is there anybody who doesn't think this song is completely rad? "i hope we live to tell the tale."
39) "shy that way" by tristan prettyman and jason mraz
thank heavens for finger picking. i like this song, because it gives hope to us romantically shy people. "you know you're stunning, you're absolutely stunning, and i'm running, always running."
40) "bittersweet symphony" by the verve
another one from when i was 15. i'm not sure what it was about that year, but a lot of those songs are still my favorites. too bad this one's so depressing. "i need to hear some sounds that recognize the pain in me."
41) "both of us'll feel the blast" by waterdeep
i would really like someone to sing this song at my wedding, in all seriousness. "i believe that Jesus knew what He was doing when He gave me you."
