Garden, Bread, & Slippers
12:14 p.m. - 2021-04-29

More than a year of the pandemic, but we are still hanging in there and keeping busy. I miss family gatherings but they are all staying safe, so can't complain. I'm still trying new recipes, baking bread every week or so, and now, growing this year's garden. So far we are having a great lettuce harvest and are eating salads very night for a dinner side, but I still have the starts of tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, basil and sweet potatoes to set out.

My daughter wanted a new robe, so I made her one out of fleece, and it's not easy figuring out adjustments long distance. We eliminated the waist ties and put in a tab+button and a tab+snap to hold the robe closed. Luckily, I've made this same pattern for her before, so I would call her up and ask her to measure the hem, sleeve length, etc. It all worked out in the end.

Last year it looked like our patio cover was getting ready to fall down on us, so we had it replaced and new paving put in. It looks safe and attractive now and we love it. As soon as the workmen were done, the water heater died beginning a week of hassle and mopping and waiting since our go-to-plumbers were booked up for over a week. A week of no hot water...... However, we survived and now have a new water heater. Now I am looking at my 60-year-old oven and thinking about replacing that, too.

Tunisian Slippers are my new interest in the craft department. They are lovely crocheted slippers/house shoes and there are many many YouTube videos (in Turkish) showing how to make them. It took 5 or 6 failures before I finally got a working pattern going and have made a pair for each for the daughters. I've had to research on ways to make the soles non-slip and will probably use silicone. It will be interesting to see how that works.

A new development around here is that the spouse and I watch TV during dinner, something we never did before. We like YouTube travel videos to scope out places we might like to visit post-Covid. The weird thing about that is sometimes watching a travel video impresses your brain with places and scenery and later you have to think back and determine if you were really there yourself or if you saw it on the screen.
