Call me weird, but this is true. When it comes to movie spoilers, I’m not easily affected. Yep, even the movies I’m eager to watch. This doesn’t mean I don’t try to understand both sides in this matter, though. You may consider my position is like a swing-voter in politics, while both sides besides me are against each other.

In short, those who love spreading spoilers have their reasons. I get it, they’re so happy that they have finally watched that movie first. Through their joy, they feel like sharing it to the whole wide world. Social media makes it possible.

Some of them are also having (if not suffering) F.O.M.O (Fear of Missing Out) syndrome. Thanks to this, they also feel the need to brag about it.

“Yay, I’ve finally watched it!”

Oh, wow. Good for you. Bravo. *slow claps*

There are people who give spoilers because they themselves feel somehow disappointed with how the movie turns out in the end. Feeling that they have wasted their money and few hours of their lives, they decide to be ‘generous’ by warning others not to make the same ‘mistake’.

That’s actually quite thoughtful, but not all would think so. How about those still eager to watch, no matter what? They may beg to differ.

Spoil-haters have their reasons too. They’d like to experience the element of surprise. It’s just like when you’re about to open a nicely-wrapped birthday present for you. I mean, think about it. How would you feel if the one who gives you the presents decides to spill the beans in seconds before you are about to open your present?

Exactly.

So, some people may decide to get off social media for a while – at least until they finally watch that movie. (e.g. “Avengers: Endgame”.) Come to think of it, we all need such a break once in a while, don’t we?

Me? I’m not easily affected by any spoilers whatsoever. I believe in experiencing things differently. You can say or post whatever you like. I simply choose to ignore. In short, I’ll decide what I think of the movie once I watch it myself.

R.
