No, Really.

I watched Butterfly Effect last night and I actually liked it. It's one of the better movies I've seen. It may actually even be in the top twenty for me.

I think this actually has something to do with the incremental lowering of expectations and standards when it comes to movies. I mean, I'm a parent, I've been sucked into a couple of those movies, the ones that are supposed to be Cinderella, or some other Disney classic but upon feeding it to the VCR you find out it was actually stapled together in an insane asylum. Or possibly vomited up by an animal. In an insane asylum. Whatever it is, it aint even bad Disney quality. It's piss. It's Whizney.

I've also shelled out the requisite thirty bucks a head to see the shittiest movie after it was SUPERHYPE freakhyped for ohhh...six years. I want to promise I'll never spend lobster sized money on crappy yellow-greased popcorn ever again, but I know I won't keep that promise. I always believe the hype no matter how many times I've been stung.

I have stared at a movie screen and realized we have scraped the bottom of the mariana trench of stupid. And bless 'em those folks in Hollywood manage to prove me wrong again and again. In dreck there is no absolute zero, it can and will get worse.

But Butterfly Effect was good, so we have that.
