Leon's best friends are out of town for the weekend, so we have been taking care of their two pugs and housesitting. Before having AJ, housesitting/dogsitting was something I would occasionally do as a favor for a good friend, but wasn't necessarily something I enjoyed. Today, however, being in a nice, quiet house with two cute, though snorty and prone to humping each other, pugs and a privacy fenced backyard with one of those adult sized inflatable, chlorinated pools has been the most relaxing day I've had in at least a year.

I spent the day reading (and finishing!) a novel (Angry Housewives Eating Bon Bons-- great story with great characters!), laying in the sun, lounging in the pool, lather, rinse, repeat. Its unbelievably quiet. I know my son is in good hands with his father and my mother-in-law for the evening, and I've had a vicodin and a glass of wine, so nothing bothersome can even stay in my mind long enough for me to remember why I'm normally so stressed out. The best part of this halcyon setting is that I'm alone. I haven't been alone for a full 24 hours in a disturbingly long time. Fuck, I don't even remember the last time I was able to PEE alone, let alone watch a Top Model marathon without having to switch the tv to that evil animated Dora chick ten minutes into a catfight.

I could definitely get used to this kind of solitude and relaxation on a regular basis. I may have to ask my friends to leave town more often.
