Garburator

In celebration of my pretend return to cleaning, I would like to take this opportunity to mention several items I like to clean. These are items that are very pleasurable to clean because one does not often have the opportunity to do so. One that comes to mind is the lint trap on my hairdryer�much more fun to clean than the lint trap in the dryer, because you have to wait until it collects up before emptying it. Only, He usually gets to it before I can get to it. �That�s a fire hazard,� He�ll say, and before I know it, He�s snapped off the cover and removed the fuzzy debris with an efficient flick of the wrist.

�Don�t!� I cry, sad. But He�s already done it.

I would say that I feel similarly about my hairbrush, but it�s one of those round deals, and totally impossible to clean without the assistance of a pair of shears. Hmmm�that�s an idea. I could slice that thing open. Then I�d have a matt of thatched hair. Yuck. I�ll sneak it into Taipraita�s bed when she comes to visit. he, heh heh.

But I digress.

I can�t really hold it against Him for the preemptive blowdryer lint trap cleaning. On one of my first holiday visits to the in-laws� house I noticed a massive cobweb in the corner of the door jamb leading to the living room. Knowing my mother-in-law�s discretion in cleaning, I took a quick swipe at it with a Kleenex when no one was watching. It didn�t take 20 minutes until she asked, �Where did my cobweb go?� It seems she had been saving the cobweb for quite some time until I destroyed it. Jauma lied.

There are also some household objects that I never realized needed cleaning until it was way overdue. The cylindrical underside of the garburator
drain, for example. After living in the same apartment for almost a year and a half, masticating food with reckless abandon in the sink, I took one look at the inside of that drain stopper and blanched at the thought of all of those germy food particles. Now I put it in the dishwasher once a week, and feel a great sense of relief. Never you mind the whether or not the germy food particles in the fridge are worse for my health.

It�s quite a shock to realize, as a full-grown adult, that there is an everyday object in your
household you have never thought to clean. Imagine the build-up!

Na jo, what do you think? I would be interested in hearing more of your cleaning stories. Are there items that you like to clean, or forgot to clean for your whole life? I would sure like to hear about them. Mostly because if there�s something else I�m forgetting to clean I�d definitely want to clean it right away.
