In Rainbows
2008-02-19, 16:15

I got a copy of Radiohead's In Rainbows recently, and I've been listening to it. And listening to it. I'm listening to it right now, as I type.

I will tell you that it is an amazing album - worth well more than whatever you decided to pay for it back in the day. I will stop short of saying that is perfect; however, I believe it's imperfect by design. Rather than launching itself into the reaches of Nirvana, to share space with albums like The Wall or The White Album (or whatever others you fancy to be there), it, like a bodhisattva, turns back to the masses, to make itself approachable, a signpost toward perfection that says, 'This Is What Your Music Could Be'. And on that sign, someone put a little round sticker in the corner that says, 'Goodbye, RIAA'.

So yeah, I like it. I think I like it a little more than OK Computer. Maybe they're not comparable; I do not profess to be a Radiohead expert. I find myself comparing the group, in spirit if not in style, to Steely Dan - able to be popular and approachable, and at the same time glaringly unique, with an unfathomable depth.

So yeah, give it a listen, and forget about your house of cards.
