Basically, the gold gets you (or the person you're buying it for) a bunch of space to host images on our server, a stats tracker, the ability to start diaryrings and surveys. The supergold membership gets them these things, but with more space for images, a nice comments system, and a webmail account. Also, when you buy a year's worth of either membership, you get banner views so the diary-owner can advertise their diary in the members area with banners (many people get gold just for this fun feature!). If you wish to send a message to thecrankyone to be sent when they receive the automated system email, there is a box for comments and special instructions you can put that in when you go through the payment form.

By the way, when you fill out the form to pay, there's an extra box for additional comments or instructions. You can use this field to write any message you want the gift receiver to see when they are sent the automated signup mail. If you don't fill it out, the gift will be anonymous unless you tell them that you bought it.
