from donut-one :
I've more than made up for it...I've been feeding the snails food. And I've stopped poking at them with sticks. :)
from golfwidow :
That, by far, wins my "Best Damned News of the Week Award." Hands down. Sorry there's no prize. I'm broke.
from breatheasigh :

from bluperspex :
you should see my bowling skills, you'd be... um... amazed :) yes. that is probably a good word for "terrible". haha
from joyfulthing :
Hello cabin-boy. I found the captains log via Nanowrimo which led me directly to your doorstep, and I wanted to say hey and among other things, I completely felt that tale of the tearing down of the haunted movie theatre/hospital. I thought it interesting that you were planning on doing documentary type things on the haunted places. I used to live in Somerville, MA which featured some serious bloody battles of the Revolutionary war and one house I lived in was built on a graveyard of British soldiers, which I didn't know until I found the headstone saying so. But it seems common knowlege in that area of Boston that there are just all kinds of haunted places -- everyone's got an interesting story. My friend and I were going to do a documentary, but then I moved to Seattle. I think it would be a fascinating project. Anyways, I'm enjoying your narratives and good luck on Nanowrimo! And cats have secret communications with their alien mothership, which is probably what the incessant meowing is all about. ~k
from zencelt :
Hello. Its your friendly neighborhood Zen. I was wondering whether you have investigated taking classes on-line self-paced? So you can do them whenever the heck you want to. There is nothing worse than feeling like crap and having to sit and listen to someone else for hours on end. Anyway, I wish you healing vibes and very good luck with the class arrangements.
from golfwidow :
You'd think, being that he wants your money, Andrew'd be all about making sure the Paypal works properly. I'd tell you to put in a help ticket about it, but then I might laugh so hard I'd pee myself.
from sixweasels :
Ouch. I hope your eye heals on its own with the antibiotics!
from zencelt :
I wouldn't mind a more frequent update. But, as long as you keep in touch... I wanna go to Disney!
from sixweasels :
Sucky-butt. I think I'm going to adopt that word.
from divamel :
seetie=sweetie, of course. duh.
from divamel :
good luck, seetie!
from divamel :
I HAVE BEEN REMISS! I totally missed your birthday, how much do I suck? :( SO, as a belated gift, here are your five questions: 1) When you were 15, what did you want to be when you grew up ? 2) If you and The Captain could build the perfect home anywhere, where would that be? 3) If applicable: if I asked your mother what she thought about you, what would she say? 4) Tell me about your first crush. 5) When did you meet/fall in love with The Captain?
from gnomad :
WOOT! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!
from kidmittens :
I LOVED your letters to the public! The stupidity of some people is absolutely astounding. A personal example of mine...I was driving in the city to pick up my boyfriend and a cab slowed down at a green light, then STOPPED in the intersection to pick up a pedestrian, putting on his 4 ways after he stopped. This caused me to run a red light as I had no idea the moron would stop in the middle of the intersection and I was over the line by the time I realized what he was doing. *sigh*
from gnomad :
*big long tight hug* Oh my fucking god. That SUCKS. I'm glad you stopped. I totally understand how you feel, though.
from gnomad :
Hey you! I'm just trying to get caught up on everybody's journals, since I haven't been around in a couple of weeks. How does the book crossing thing work? I wouldn't mind having a look at the Choice Of Heroes one and the I Can't Accept Not Trying .. what do I have to do? Fill me in!
from zencelt :
Hey there cabin-boy! I was reading about your dilema, and wanted to tell you that cortizones can be REALLY bad news for skin infections. They actually thin your skin and make the problem worse. My friend on the shore just went through the same thing was was prescribed cortizones which made him a very miserable man until the Dr. re-assessed. Healing thoughts coming your way!!!
from inkdragon :
How nice you are! I use my digital all the time, but Hubby wants me to use his Hasselblad. I'm resisting because the film and developing is so expensive and, honestly, I don't know anything about photography. I just point and shoot. Thank you for the offer though.
from poolagirl :
Ahoy, there! I too sail the high seas of DiaryLand as a pirate and sometimes-scribe. I've stopped by your ship - and I like what I see. Welcome to my fave list!
from zencelt :
The Bertha art is lovely. You could make some amazing wall paper out of that if you have enough carrots...
from delynn :
How about Tinkerbell?(for kitty)
from pandionna :
Greetings! Saw your note over at Fargahar's and decided to come over and raise your hit count. Giving you a heads up so you don't think someone is stalking you. Because, I don't know about you, but I hate it when that happens, and people come over and read every page and then not tell you they were there.
from ladypoetess :
Thanks for the boredom-reducing tip - I used to play on Neopets all the time. I had 3 pets, as I recall. I had my own shop and everything - I just got tired of it after awhile, I suppose.
from blindsorrow :
i found this site from some site, but forgot which site it was. but god damn you are funny. i laughed my ass of at you.
from wilberteets :
Thank you for the kind comment. I knew you had something going on in your digestive system, but I did not know about the fibrous thingymabob. Did you have to go through cancer treatment during the 3 years of waiting? ACK!! Three years of waiting?!?! I was mad about 9 days worth of waiting!
from sixweasels :
That was one of the best obits I've ever read. You've got my eyes leaking. Buddy was lucky.
from divamel :
Woo. That was great, my friend. A most fitting obit.
from gnomad :
Ohhhh dude. I'm sorry about your friend. He sounds like da bomb. *big hug* Sounds like you did alright by him. And hey, where else could you have gotten a great story like the grandma's booby story?
from candoor :
time runs faster than I do... I just stumbled upon the captian and kick started memory and so I found the link to you and clicked and wish you well and more better days and smile to have you on my screen to read again :)
from wilberteets :
I'm sorry to hear that your parrot didn't make it through his illness. I thought the little fellow might recover.
from ravyncrow :
Ohhh I've always wanted a parrot. Then when I worked with one at the Bird Sanctuary where I volunteered for a year, I looked into it. I decided I didn't want a 2 year old jealous child for the rest of my life. They DO live many many years as pets, and have been passed down from generation to generation, but they are very touchy. And I don't think, once he's bonded to you, he'd be happy anywhere else, or accepted anywhere in another flock. They don't just un-bond! LOL Good luck guys, and hang in there
from wilberteets :
Are you doing ok cabin boy? I see that you haven't updated for 8 days and since I am the update police, I thought I'd check to see if you are ok. I hope all is well. :-)
from lealoo :
Well I didn't put the kitty pics IN the entry this time. I hoped that would help ;)
from gnomad :
ROFL!!! omg. I am so sorry .. but LMAO!!!!!!!!!! *banging head on desk, laughing*
from sixweasels :
If possible, you just made me despise the Asscrack Neighbors a tiny bit less. Ugh.
from golfwidow :
I can do HTML, but I know nothing about SIMs. Would one have to know both in order to be of any use in this project?
from jesbohn :
also, dawn of the dead = le King!!!
from jesbohn :
hey cabin boy. I adress the issue of what it means to do what you like as long as it doesnt hurt anybody else in the article called "dont we all want smoking to be legal." i didnt get into it in the article because my readers have already heard the schpeel, and by now, i am sure, are sick of it. anyway, thanks for visiting. its kinda cool getting a note from a notorious d-lander... hope to see you around. love, jes aka bohner
from inkdragon :
Thanks for the photo link. Fotolog is working very well at the moment, so I will take it day by day. Hope you're well.
from candora :
Obviously I have not checked my favs list in too long... I have catching up to do next weekend :)
from wilberteets :
Thanks for the info!! I will get the Wellness dog food for my boy Dagget. I don't know what is best, and truth be told, he has gotten way too much people food. I have always gotten him better dog foods, or I should say "expensive" dog foods. I don't feed him the cheapest stuff, because I want him to like his food, so I get him what I think he will enjoy. Do I get the wellness dog food at PetCo, or Walmart, or where? Thanks for the note.
from saladwhore :
melo Happy Belated Birthday! And I'm leaving some clues here about the info you asked for in Fargahar's comments! If you know what I'm talking about then you'll catch it. ;) Any questions, just stop by and leave a comment OK? Hope your birthday was fun. :) mane
from sixweasels :
Happy Birthday!!!!
from inkdragon :
Happy Birthday!
from firemind :
2-23: Congratulations on getting a new doggy. Things should be fun. I am looking forward to the new diary.
from sixweasels :
I totally get the cell phone thing and why it feels so special - and you are't the LAST, I just got one myself this week. Happy way-early birthday!
from sixweasels :
Awwww ... I got all teary-eyed looking at her and thinking about my Stacey-girl, even though they look nothing alike. You're right, there's something about those eyes.
from fargahar :
I love Cats Exclusive but they are mega expensive. I love the kitty store. That is where I went kitty x-mas shopping. Cats Exclusive is too far away from me. I go to the vet I used to work for in Edmonds....but if I had more money and didn't want to listen to yowling cats for a half hour I would take them there.
from inkdragon :
What if? What if you found a pet who you loved and loved you in return? Isn't that the chance all us animal lovers take and doesn't always turn out completely worth it? Good luck.
from sixweasels :
I'm so excited for you about the prospect of getting a new dog. Thinking of you!
from golfwidow :
I'm so sorry about Blobbo. ..
from redstarhelix :
bear story - hilarious.
from divamel :
Oh, sweetie, this is a tough one, I know. You've loved her as best you can; follow not only your heart, but yours and the Capn's best judgement. *squeezles*
from sixweasels :
I'm in no place to tell you what I'd do now, after the week I've had with my critters, but believe me, I sympathize. I took in a cat years ago who decided that she hated my ferrets and kept trying to pee ON the ferret who was ill at the time and recovering from surgery. NOT good. I was lucky. Chris worked with a cat-person who was looking for a animal who wanted to be a spoiled, only pet, and they were a perfect match for each other. But it was one of the hardest things I ever had to do.
from inkdragon :
This is such a sad situation with your cat. Please know, just like with Axel, the quality of life you have given this lovey is excellent (since the ex went elsewhere). What does your vet say? She would be extrememly hard to place in another home considering her medical condition. Are there any reliable rescues nearby? I know you have probably thought these things through, but I had to type them. There may be only one right thing to do, the hardest thing. Good luck.
from divamel :
And here I was, thinking I was the only one that checked to see if my love muffin was still alive as he slept. Hee.
from gnomad :
Heh. Heh. *snicker* ROFL! Well, hey. You'll know next time.
from fargahar :
We all have those moments. You just put yours in writing... ha ha ha :)
from rebekahsue :
my boy (JM) is petrified of urbans near the cars... i may send him your sasquach post. by the way, i'm l-empress's UD and your page brings much joy to my mommy.
from trinity63 :
Happy New year hon:) God I am jealous -- Yummy Crab! Wasn't the buffet just crazy packed though?
from cabin-boy :
Alas! I never did continue the kittens diary... somehow, I just couldn't view through their eyes the way I could with the Dawg... of course, it's hard to understand a pair of felines who are, even as I write this, RICCOCHETING off the futon and floor and walls, one after the other, like live furry ping pong balls. (smirk)
from candoor :
did the kittens diary ever continue? (I know I have it linked somewhere).
from candoor :
been running in circles looking for things outside of the circles, isn't that just the way when chasing one's own tail?
from candora :
It is good to catch up with old friends we never met, good to imagine all is well and hope for the best.
from gnomad :
Hah! Your state of fur-assistance when trying to sleep sounds a lot like my house. Welcome back! Got all excited when I saw that you'd updated!
from silentsix :
great to hear good news, that monky robot story is actually pretty damn cool ;)
from l-empress :
Hooray!! I yelled out when I saw the red new entry on your name. My daughter is still laughing at me.
from inkdragon :
So glad you're home!
from golfwidow :
Yay you!
from fargahar :
Glad you're home and feeling better. I wish you a speedy recovery and I am certain that there are medical tests that have proven that having kittens around speeds ones recovery. I know they have proven that is so with pugs around as well...(I know that for a fact).
from golfwidow :
Good luck! Hope you feel better soon!
from silentsix :
just wanted to say good luck! i'll be waiting for you to get back ;)
from fargahar :
Good Luck Monday. I will be thinking good thoughts for you and capt-jim.
from sixweasels :
Will be sending good thoughts your way on Monday and hoping for a speedy recovery!
from manxjack :
Hey David! I'm so happy for you that you are able to get in and get this surgery done. I don't believe I've ever wished a surgery on anyone, but for you, I'll make an exception. Doing good here. Write me when you get home...K? Jane
from inkdragon :
11/06/03 This is such good news. I really wish you did not need surgery, but this seems to be the best realistic scenario. Have a great day!
from l-empress :
Can I add any more than: I wish I could help. You are absolutely right, it is not fair. The "beancounters" never can see the value of a person. All I can offer you is prayers -- and I do.
from inkdragon :
11/02/03 I am truly sorry. It's very hard when the sickiest people are not treated (or respected), everyone says, "you gotta fight." Well, sick as you are there's very little fight left in you. There must be some sort of community legal advocate for the disabled who would take your case. I hope you find the right person to convince your surgeon to perform the needed surgery so you will become a great artist (for your pleasure, not to please the idiots). My very best thoughts are being sent cross-country to you.
from inkdragon :
Ow!
from trinity63 :
Here I am whining about my piddly issues and you have a whole slew of them. Sending you healing thoughts. Hugs, xoxox
from inkdragon :
I'm sending gentle, healing hugs to you.
from trinity63 :
I am really thinking of you, and my little problems are small potaotes compared to yours. I shall stop whining.
from inkdragon :
Thinking of you...
from silentsix :
could try a noise machine... a comfortable whine that should drown out all random background noises. i have a really hard time falling asleep, every little sound is amplified for me, so i have to have something on, whether it's static on the tv or music.
from candoor :
it's about time I found this link (my old laptop is stalled for the moment and using a new (old) computer without any old links is strange, like being a stranger in a strange land where everything was once familiar, maybe like having amnesia... anyway, hugs for your Target walk and exercise? (encouraging myself is a full time job and even working overtime at it I'm falling behind :)
from trinity63 :
I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO jealous! Disneyland is my all time favorite place to be!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! xoxoxo
from trinity63 :
Ooooh you went to one of my favorite casinos, the food is fab!!!!!!
from trinity63 :
thanks for the comments:) I appreciate them.
from trinity63 :
But I love pirates:) Arrggghhhhh:) I love your journal as well:)
from firemind :
Your new layout is nice. Your 'old' link in the navigate panel doesn't work yet. Thanks for the starbucks/icecream idea. coool caffeine!
from inkdragon :
09/04/03 I like the new design. Animals know, I don't understand it but it remains true. I hope your number of sins stays low today!
from inkdragon :
09/02/03 What an incredibly selfish and rude woman. I wish you had said something to her. I hope you do not catch that thing's cold.
from inkdragon :
I think you are coping/managing just right. There will be reminders when you least expect. Great waves of sadness will happen, you loved Axel with all your heart. Should you just be "over" his passing? I think not. When the time is right, the sad memories will to turn to the funny and special moments. Let your heart heal as it needs too. You were as much of a gift to Axel as he was to you. Take good care of yourself, Yvonne
from tuff517 :
Maybe you can have a pirate ship on your lips instead of a carnival, with some rum flavored Lip Smackers. The kittens are sooo very cute. They would like Lip Smackers, too, I bet.
from taydo :
Your kittens are so cute I want to gouge out my eyeballs with a wooden spoon. Eeeee!
