You've got the two most important things done. Next, like you mentioned, get your dress. Then, if you're having a DJ, photographer, flowers. Don't forget the cake. Then all your dress accessories. Invitations. Register!! Have you ever been to www.theknot.com ?? Check it out- they have a check list that has everything. Also a budget thing, it's very cool. Good luck!!

from nacwolin :
Girl!!! You need to get on chat and tell me what's what!!!
from brdwaybebe :
He sounds really amazing! Here is a perspective someone once gave me. He is wonderful and say he is not the one God called for you - God has brought him into your life to set the bar. He is the absolute worst you can do - and if he is that awesome imagine the man of God you will have? And if he IS the man God has called for you - You will come together in God's perfect time in His perfect way. Oh the adventure! Weee!
from nacwolin :
You sound happy and I am glad! :-)
from paigexr :
Woo-hoo! I'm thrilled you're a having such a sweet season of life - they are to be savored! Such a gift from Father! Love you, Paige
from godsong :
Hey Val - I'm happy for you! I'm praying that God will continue to bless you. He has you in the palm of His hand - what a great place to be! Keep us posted! God bless, Lisa
from marlen816 :
And yet again you continue to inspire me =)
from h2ophobic :
That was another wonderful entry. I forget myself to thank God for all his wonderful blessings too. It's always amazing HOW many blessings are there when we simply take the time to count them! P.S. I'm still praying for your student you mentioned earlier...any news about him yet?
from h2ophobic :
You are so right to build a friendship prior to any "romantic" relationship. There have been times when I've been tempted to leave "Bill my husband" but I couldn't bear to leave "Bill my best friend."
from godsong :
What an amazing weekend! God works in awesome powerful ways. Glad you had a good time at the concert too. Remember - God is present even in your frustration. I'm praying for you and with you. God bless!
from chikyblonde :
I custom design templates and can make one for you if you'd like...
from h2ophobic :
You're right...I can't see your flower. I'll definitely be adding your young student to my prayer list. And about your friend...some of my greatest blessings have come when I just "sit, wait and see." I pray the same for you!
from godsong :
Hey Val - thinking of you and praying for you. God's leading you in the direction He wants you to go - listen for His voice. It's exciting! Love you and God bless! Lisa
from marlen816 :
How sweet! Chocolates - YUM!
from paigexr :
I hope LOTS of young women read this entry! You are delightful! Love you! Paige
from paigexr :
Just to reiterate what I said a few notes ago, if God wants this to be, "the age thing" will not continue to be a "thing." Elizabeth just turned 40. Andy (her precious husband & father of their new baby) will be 29 soon. Just some food for thought...:0) God's will be done, amen?
from danddteacher :
Oh, girl, you are in my prayers. I'm praying that just as God gave me some clarity, He'll do the same for you. That if this is the relationship He'd have you be in, He'd reveal it to you in His good timing, and that if it's not, He'd let you know soon and protect your heart. It feels kind of strange, doesn't it? The thought that something may be going on. I'm trying to get used to it myself.
from godsong :
As I was reading your latest entry, I felt as if I was looking at a mirror image. I understand your frustrations and doubts, and also know that God is completely in control and has the best plan for our lives. A guy at church this weekend was giving his testimony and said "Our circumstances do not change God's will for us." I'm praying for you - you are a beautiful sister in Christ. Have a great time using your gifts to minister to your kids. I love you! Lisa
from pjammies :
Thank you for your support! Oh, I loved the "in the name of Jesus, start car!!" That is the best. Your vacation sounded so great! Makes me long for our summer to get here! -Pam
from chikyblonde :
i read the firefighter situation and got holy spirit goosebumps. I could picture him pacing around praying in the spirit. God is so awesome.
from supermom3604 :
I love your layout! It's so calm and refreshing, very easy on the eyes. I get so tired of layouts covered in blinkies!
from godsong :
Thank you for the well wishes - I am truly looking forward to spending time with my spiritual sister. I'm also looking forward to the day that you'll get to come here to the US, or even more to the day I'll get to travel to visit you! Paige and I are already planning that trip!
from godsong :
Hey Val - I have to agree with Paige - don't sell yourself or him too short just because of the age factor - God knows your hearts! Thanks for your note too about the quiz. I understand completely what you said about not using it a measuring stick of any kind. I did find that as I used it to examine myself truthfully, there are areas in which I need to allow God to work more in my life, and areas in which I need to allow God's love to reflect more to others. I am, as we all are, a work in progress! Love you, Lisa
from paigexr :
Don't rule out Mr. Young too quickly!!! A girlfriend of mine married a guy 11 years her junior - God is mighty in their home! You never know...:0) HAPPY NEW YEAR! Love, Paige
from h2ophobic :
Why didn't you tell us all that you're beautiful?? I can't wait to read about all the wonderful people and times that are coming your way in 2005!
from godsong :
Thanks for your tag. I wish you the same blessings. God knows the desires of your heart and he has seen your obedience in serving Him. I know that this coming year will overflow with His love and goodness! God bless!
from hsing-mom :
re: your images. If the one you are calling "img" starts with [img src="...], except with < instead of [ etc., then copy and paste that into your diary where you want the picture to be. If you have troubles email me at [email protected]. :)
from godsong :
It sounds like you had a wonderful Christmas - I'm so glad to hear that! Enjoy your well deserved vacation. Looking forward to hearing more of your culinary adventures - everything always sounds soo good!
from woodswaif :
Merry Christmas. Hope your holiday is as wonderful as mine. Wish I was down there in the warm sun, instead of the freezing wind. Have a great vacation and thanks for the note. Liz
from h2ophobic :
Thank you for your beautiful entry. I have only one thing to add...Amen!
from chikyblonde :
I found your diary through Alice's guestbook. I read your thankfulness entry and just wanted to cry. I am going through my own sorrows of being single and lack of friendships. You're entry really helped me to see how alone I'm not. Thank you for sharing. I've made you a favorite diary.

from godsong :
Good morning Val...I pray you have restful days bfore school starts again...makeup? I'd much rather sleep as much as possible - the most I do is the mascara thing! Let's keep praying for patience for each other as we see God's will unfold in our life. God bless and much love, Lisa
from marlen816 :
I normally always put on my makeup unless I am cleaning around the house - I hate sweating it off! Even if I don a baseball cap I put on my make up =)
from starlight42 :
Our elections are coming up too...such a responsibility.
from godsong :
Thanks for reminding me to do a little something just for me. I do forget sometimes...and as always, thanks for your prayers. Have a great week and God bless.

from starlight42 :
I think you've hit the nail on the head! Teaching is one of the most important jobs of all, and it never gets the respect or the $$ it is worth! It's really quite sad. But you're being rewarded each day by the kids...
from hsing-mom :
actually here lots of people revere teachers. I think you're doing an awesome job at a great profession. (((hugs)))
from starlight42 :
First, peanut butter is great- a good pb&J never hurt anyone! Second, I know what you mean about how working with kids can be so tiring, giving your all, but also so very rewarding like nothing else. Enjoy every moment! Lastly, have a great time with your friend, I am so jealous, it sounds like you'll have such a nice time!
from starlight42 :
Heck ya, I'd be in there every day!!
from godsong :
sounds like a great store!! I think I'd be in there every week....maybe. At least every other. Have a good rest of your week - enjoy your kidlets (love that term for the ones we teach, by the way!) God bless!
from godsong :
Enjoy spring! We're just getting glimpses of fall here (my fav season). My school year begins next week - as does the return to scheduled life! Hope you're enjoying your weekend! God bless!

from woodswaif :
Congratulations on your Run! My school year is going great and I pray yours is also. -Liz
from marlen816 :
LOL! Sometimes I spend more time in the van than with Rick, so maybe that boy is on to something. ((Hugs))
from paigexr :
Loving you from North Carolina today! Paige (and Lisa - she's here!) - Come get on a plane...:0)
from woodswaif :
Your entries about school always tug at my heart. May God Bless you as you minister to those children. - Liz

Your nephew sounds so cute!! Kids are the best, usually they can uplift your spirit.
from starlight42 :
Early morning walks...I wish I had the ambition for that! One day I'd like to just sit and watch the sun rise...that kid with the bandana sounds so cute!
from godsong :

from paigexr :
Hi Valerie! I am praying your cold will pass quickly :0) Love, Paige
from starlight42 :
Colds suck- hope you're feeling better soon. Also, your fitness plan sounds like a great idea!!
from godsong :
Sorry to read you're not feeling well - hope that thai curry helps! I am glad to see that things are going well so far with your new class. I'm sure you will have as much an impact on your students as they have on you. I'll be praying for you and for them. God bless.
from godsong :
The Lord has truly blessed your time off! I'm glad you are going to be able to return to school refreshed and ready to be used to impact the lives of the students you teach. I agree with the idea of you writing a book. Your diary entries rank up in my favorites and I'm always excited to see when you've updated! God bless!
from marlen816 :
Glad to hear about your Mom's results! Praise the Lord! Enjoy the new bike. Sounds like a lot of fun!
from woodswaif :
I'm glad to hear your mom's doing well. Your entry today was right on. It was exactly what I needed to hear. Your right about holiness and gossip. Thanks. - Liz
from godsong :
I'm glad your mom is okay - that's great news. Thanks for writing about being holy - it's something we all need to remind ourselves of. I agree 100% about gossip and know that I've been involved in it, realizing while participating how wrong it is - an area of struggle to be sure. Enjoy the rest of your vacation. As always you're in my thoughts and prayers.
from marlen816 :
I'll be praying for your Mom and her testing.
from starlight42 :
that's funny- blistering barnacles! LOL Ahhh, I love the ocean. Next year I want to go to the ocean for a vacation! I'd love to live near one, eventually :)
from godsong :
So glad you're enjoying yourself! Thanks for your prayers and notes. God is faithful and is using this season for His purpose. God bless!
from godsong :
I'm so happy for both you and your mom! That's wonderful news - God is so faithful to answer our prayers. How long is you holiday? Looking forward to hearing about all the wonderful things you'll be doing - and I'm praying for your new term when it begins. God bless!
from woodswaif :
I will pray for you as you get ready for next term. I pray that your new classes are better than your old. You sound like a wonderful teacher and I am sure that God has placed you where you are for a reason. May God give you rest and peace over your time off.
from starlight42 :
I hope they do give you some choice in your classes. It would be a bummer to just be told. Good luck!
from godsong :
I'll be praying for your ability to get caught up on your rest - having been there, I can understand! And let me tell you, you are not the only one who enjoys how your thoughts take shape in your diary! I am blessed by each entry! Thanks - have a wonderful, God-filled week!
from starlight42 :
I would have started in on the lysol after that boy left as well!! And I can relate to your meloncholy entry. Don't worry, your future is out there waiting for you somewhere. You'll find it :)
from paigexr :
Dude - take them while you can!!! If your future includes mommyhood, TAKE THEM WHILST YOU MAY!!!! I can't remember when I had a mental health day...permission granted! :-)
from danddteacher :
I took a mental health day yesterday and strongly encourage you to take one now! *S*
from godsong :
Having been there myself - craving that day off in the middle of the week - I wholeheartedly give you permission to take that mental health day. Even without the "physical" things you mentioned, sometimes we do need to give our brains a day off! God bless!
from starlight42 :
I do the same thing you do, taking walks and looking at the homes & wondering who lives there...it's a favorite pasttime of mine. I do hope one day you get all you wish for!
from starlight42 :
It's funny because you'd think exercising would tire you out more. But I notice too, those nights I exercise, I have more pep! I think part of it is just pushing your body to do more. To not just sit on the couch and watch tv...
from mitfordgal :
Thanks, Valerie, for your kindness.
from starlight42 :
oh, Australia! wow- I'd love to visit there some day.
from godsong :
Thanks so much for sharing a bit of your weekend. The area you went to sounds absolutely beautiful! I don't think I could have returned home so easily. I'm glad you had a relaxing (even though you did a lot!) time. God bless!
from paigexr :
If you ever come to the US, you must come visit me in North Carolina. The real "Mitford," a town called Blowing Rock, is a mere 1.5 hours from my home! It is everything Ms. Karon describes & more! Come visit!!! :)
from godsong :
just wanted to say hi! God bless! Hope all is going well - we should try to talk again soon!
from paigexr :
Thanks for the note! I think of you often as well. Just Monday, I was showing a friend's child & Max where Australia is on a blow-up globe! I said, "That's where my friend Valerie lives!" They were impressed! And yes, we even found Perth! Have a great day! Love, Paige
from woodswaif :
I completely understand how you feel at teh end of the day. I feel the same way. Teaching is definately a calling from God...especially if you are good and teach the kids. Your children are adorable. You sound like you do an excellent job. I am sure that everything will work out with your practice teacher.
from godsong :
Wow - God's got something big planned for you...I'll be praying for you through the decision-making process. God will definitely supply for all your needs way beyond what we are capable of imagining. I can't wait to hear how He's going to continue to touch lives throughout the world. God bless!
from paigexr :
If I could, I would send us BOTH to London! Your entry was filled with a wistfulness with which I can identify. Longings of the mind and heart cross many barriers. Be blessed, my friend.
from godsong :
Thank you for sharing a piece of your life with us. Your time in London was indeed blessed, and you have shared that blessing with us! Have a wonderful time worshipping and praising God today and everyday! God bless!
from paigexr :
What great encouragement & edification for the Body! Thanks for sharing. "In our weakness, He is strong!" Love, Paige
from godsong :
Happy belated birthday! May God bless you through this next year as you continue to grow in his love and continue your witness to the children you teach and to all with whom you come in contact. I've loved getting to know you through your diary, and look forward to our developing long-distance friendship!
from paigexr :
Happy Birthday, Valerie!!! It sounds like you have had a wonderful day. May this year be filled to bursting with God's richest blessings! Love, Paige
from godsong :
thanks for sharing with us about that moment in school. Those are the things that both you and the students will remember. It's good that you can be flexible and allow "real" educational moments to occur. God bless!
from pooh67 :
Hey Val! Smartypants is on my buddy list. She is a crack-up. Very sharp.
from godsong :
Belated welcome back to teaching after the holidays! I understand abouth the dentist - I'll be praying for you on Thursday - what's special about Tuesday? Hmmm...things here have been mega-busy! Only 30-some more school days til summer vacation! (Not that i'm counting!) Hope to hear from you soon! God bless!
from godsong :
Thanks for sharing the Max Lucado entry...powerful...have a beautiful Easter. Are you doing anything special while you are on holiday for these 2 weeks?
from godsong :
yay! I have only 3 days til my Easter break as well! Unfortunately we only get one full week off...perhaps we can set up another phone chat during our time off - I'd love to hear how things are going...I'm sure you're hair looks great! I understand though about taking out the loan! My color, highlighting, & cut could probably help reduce the national deficit! Saying it like that makes me wonder if it's worth it! Hmmm...well hope you have ane awesome 3 days! The countdown is on...
from mitfordgal :
Thanks Valerie, for your kindness. My brother did call at 10pm last night so all is not lost! I'm sure my mother had a little something to do with that! I've been enjoying your entries lately... they are inspiring me!
from godsong :
Just thought I'd stop in and say hello, my friend. Hope you're having a wonderful week. God bless!
from woodswaif :
I just thought I would drop you a note to say how much I love reading your entries. Your experiences with your children are a joy to my heart. I understand what you mean about being with other people's babies. Sometimes I want to get married just so I can have babies...I love them so much. Other times, I am just happy being who God made me to be and knowing that being single I have so much more time to spend on the things God wants me to spend time on...like friends, teaching, and being able to help with other people's children. It is heartwarming to read about someone else who sounds very similar to me. I love your enthusiasm.
from paigexr :
I just love you! And I love hearing about your kiddos! How precious! By the way, thanks for the entry about the Chinese pastor. I think it's important to realize how much we've muddled true Christianity. Why can't we just love and give glory to Jesus? Anyway, thanks! Have a great day! Love, Paige
from godsong :
Hey Valerie - I'm thinking at this point, I'd love to teach in Australia! Our pay rates are not the same across the nation - there can be quite a difference from school to school even in a small area! It all depends on how much the community is charged for property taxes, which depends on the socioeconomic area...gets a little complicated actually. I believe that Alaska offers some of the highest salaries, just because of the conditions there. Year round school is offered in a few areas of the country. Basically it has the 180 required school days spread more evenly through the year. Rather than have a 8-10 week period off in the summmer, there might be 2 weeks off between each marking period, or 4 weeks off between semesters - something like that. It supposedly faciltates learning more, because the students don't have as much time to forget how to be a student. I've never taught in a year round school, but i'd be interested in trying it someday. Good luck stopping your coffee addiction - i'll be praying for you! Hey - i'd love to chat "live" someday - maybe we can set up a phone call sometime when we're both free - although it'll be really late for one of us and really early for the other!
from godsong :
Hey Valerie - your question about American teachers...school districts vary - mine chooses not to pay during the summer. I have to remember to set aside money each paycheck to help pay for summer bills. I also do work a parttime job, primarily because I have bills I'm still paying from some bad financial decisions years ago. During the summer I work a few extra hours, but I usually have the luxury of making my own schedule at my job. Hope you have a fabulous week - as always, I absolutely love reading your diary. Thanks for the encouragement you provide through your insight.
from godsong :
I, for one, love the new design...however I am clueless about the techie things! Glad you had a wonderful weekend! Praise God! I'm with you in spirit about that wanting/needing a vacation!
from godsong :
Hi Valerie! You know, if (or should I say when) your NY trip materializes, I live only about 1 1/2 from NYC - you would literally pass by my house on the way from NY to Baltimore as well! I would absolutely love to meet you!
from godsong :
ahh..heat! something we long for on the east coast of the United States....as always, love reading your diary! Best of everything as you get back to school. We are starting our sping semester here - all new students to discover things about! Hope to hear from you soon!
from marlen816 :
Can't wait to hear about your trip. Your diary is always so inspiring. Praying for your grandma, too.....
from cleanstart :

Welcome Back! I'm thankful God gave you the calling to go to Cambodia and he has seen you through it! It's refreshing too, to read you entries about summer as we are fight below zero temps and snow here in the Northeast part of the states! Looking forward to reading more about your trip.
from godsong :
Please know you're in my prayers. I am sure God's blessings will pour down over the country of Cambodia and over you and your team for being obedient to his calling.

Prayers of safety and blessings for you and the others on the way to Cambodia! Have fun!!

You have a wonderful heart from God, and you use it to touch those kids lives every day. I praise Him for you and pray for your calling to the mission field. Also...if you ever get to NY - I live only about 1 1/2 away - would love to meet you! Keep me informed of those plans! Have a fabulous day in Christ!
from paigexr :
I have lots of nice things I can say about you! You have a beautiful heart that God is growing & He is using that to bless others in ways you can't even imagine!! I look forward to reading your entries everyday! Your passion for the world is infectious & seeing the nations brought to Christ - just WOW!! As far as the "man" thing goes, most people marry too soon - and marry out of lust instead of Godly, Christ-honoring love. You are being preserved for a purpose. What a JOY it will be if it comes to find fulfillment in this lifetime! AND you can rest assured that if your purpose is to be married only to Christ, you will be given the Grace to answer, "I'm already married." What a testimony. I love watching your life. Live abundantly!

Val, we started out in Perth, saw Freo, and then rented a car and drove north. Geraldton, spent two wonderful days in Kalbarri, up to Denham/Monkey Mia, south to Cervantes (oh, man, the Pinnacles were so cool!) and then we stayed at a B&B east of Perth in farming country. (It's one of my big regrets that we didn't get to the Margaret River Valley at all, not to mention the forests south of there.) We spent a week on a camping trip in the Uluru region (I'd never seen desert, so that was an amazing experience) and then stayed with friends in Sydney who showed us bits of the east coast (south to Canberra) and ended our trip with a week in Noosa/Fraser Island. I'd never seen tropical type countryside, either, so you can imagine how overwhelming the whole trip was. It was my 50th birthday present and the most amazing six weeks of my life. If we can ever save up money, I would love to visit again and see more of the bits we missed. I love your country. Everyone was so amazingly welcoming and kind. I also fell in love with the Aussie meat pie and Tim Tams. I would weigh 300 pounds if I lived in Oz, just from the Tim Tams :)

Thank you, that was quite an honour. It takes quite a bit of courage what you're doing, walking away from the comfort of your life to Cambodia. My husband and I spent two weeks in Western Australia two years ago and we were both stunned by the beauty of the place. Quite a contrast to the garbage strewn water in the picture you posted.

Just wanted to tell you how much I love reading your diary - you have a terrific writing style and I can relate to so much of what you say - being a 30-something single teacher here in New Jersey. Thanks for making me smile and uplifting me each day. Also - I'd love to talk with you more about Cambodia - and to help out in some fashion. Please let me know what I could do.

Hi! Thanks for your message. As it turns out, I have "Mitford" on my bedside table, I grew up in "Narnia" & "Oswald" helps me walk the narrow path with Christ! And I love my coffee too! It seems we have a lot in common. God bless you & I hope to hear from you again. Love, Paige
