I was a major Helmut Newton fan all through the 80s... I'll miss his eye. A photo from his first colelction (late 70s) showed a model in only heels and a full-length white fur coat descending the steps of the Hotel Georges Cinq in Paris... That image has stayed with me ever since (and, yes, it is derived from Schnitzler's "Fraulein Ilse"...).

American cultural note: males from the South will likely have a small pocketknife and almost invariably a comb and hankerchief in a back pocket. You don't find that among Californians or New Yorkers. Now-- what pocket contents are invariably hetero?
from raven72d :
In my own pockets on a given day in jeans-- small pocket knife, two quarters (50 cents=pay phone call or vending machine drink or compressed air machine to re-fill auto tires),wallet, key ring, handkerchief and pocket comb. Those things may mark me as hetero, but they *certainly* mark me as from the American South...

sardonic is better than cynical.

You and James Bond, eh? Aldous Huxley and John F. Kennedy both died on my birthday. I'm not sure what to make of that... But what year exactly was Bond born? 1920? But he was permamnetly in his later 30s, so that even in 1964 he was the same age as in 1954...

If you say "heteronormativen" four times beneath a full moon, aren't you instantly and magiclly transported to a ruined castle in the Baltikum?
from raven72d :
Lovely, intriguing photo... Do post more!
from raven72d :
I keep wanting to apologize... My German is evaporating, atrophying... I feel so ashamed of that.
from raven72d :
Come send e-mail soon...
from raven72d :
Augenartz... God-- I know. Computer screens and age are killing my eyes... And glasses and lenses are so bloody expensive! Now-- do e-mail/write...
from raven72d :
A line of Warren Zevon's-- "sitting in Mombasa, in a barroom drinking gin..." --And so: what cocktails do you prefer when sitting outside with friends on a summer's night?
from raven72d :
I find it interesting that the German characters in your diary appear on my screen as Chinese ideograms... But isn't Quetschsystem a lovely term? Now-- do e-mail me!

Singing "Kumbayah" can actually cause mass extinctions... Ummm...drei Inches? A vur' interesting entry, Lyssa...

Kurban Said, "The Girl From the Golden Horn"... And being a Pasha is never as good as being a wicked Vicomte.
from raven72d :
What has been *your* blogging experience?
from raven72d :
I found my little beagle stuffling Frederick left on the roadside in the rain. I stopped my car, ran over, and picked him up and saved him. He's been there on my desk ever since. Saving a small stuffling friend is always a good act-- a mitzvah, if you will.

Hmmmm... Fake Prada?

I grew up fascinated by the Albanian flag, by the Skanderbeg double-headed bird-- not the Habsburg doppeladler, not quite the Byzantine double eagel... I have, by the way, always wanted a real fez... (The best-- made for the Bosniak regiments of the k.-und-k. Armee, were from Habig u. Sohn in Vienna) As a doctor of laws, Moroccan law says I'm entitled to a black fez... But I want a crimson one... I've been to Croatia and BiH, but never to Albania. It's a place I'd love to see.
from raven72d :
Petersburg.... Have you ever read Andrei Bely's novel "Petersburg"?
from raven72d :
I wish I could sometimes be a tall, leggy, icy-beautiful lesbian... But-- as a part-time Historiker, part-time Rechtsanwalt...I hope I'll do. Write soon-- I love e-mail.
from raven72d :
Tell me about the UN... and do send an e-mail...

Lyssa, I just joined yesterday and yours was one of the first pages I read. Super great stuff! Please keep writing!
from raven72d :
It manages to irritate me that I can't do umlauts (or accents) here on this computer. I do remember my first first Lyssa-- a girl named Alyssa Malehorn, darkly seductive and quite tall back in the early 1990s... I wonder if ever I'll be described as "beruflich"... I wish your layout allowed me to print whole entries...
from raven72d :
Patricia Highsmith---> much better than Patricia Cornwell.

update April 6, 2020: Sorry, we just had 8+ hours downtime due to a server problem. Restoring from backups took soooo long, but everything is back and no data was lost. Ay yay yay! Anyhow, hope everyone is well with the virus stuff.
