The horror/scary movies I watched recently... Wrong Turn 2: Dead End: not awful but not good. Lots of gross entrails scenes. Henry Rollins was in it which was a bonus. I'd give it C. Saw III: Bad. Stupid. I'm so done with the Jigsaw guy's psychobabble. Just kill/torture people and shut up. GAH!! Grade: D. Wind Chill: Really nice creepy ghost story. Recommend it highly. Grade: B+. Hostel Part II: Surprisingly entertaining movie. Much better than first. Better storyline and characters. Grade: B+

About "Clerks"... While I agree that it is a good solid independent debut, I get quite frustrated with Kevin Smith sometimes. His tendencies towards crudeness for crudeness' sake can be distracting from enjoying his film. And this is glaringly obvious at the end of "Clerks" where the girl has sex with the dead guy, not realizing he's dead. That's like a 12 year old's version of funny. To me, "Slacker" is so much better than "Clerks" that it's like comparing apples to oranges.

I was coming home from the golf course tonight and got a skip from Toronto playing big band music. I checked out their website and found it's available on the web. 7PM to midnight EST on Sundays. http://www.am740.ca/main.htm#

Yeah, it is mostly a runner's log. I just made a profile on a gardening site and will most likely blog at that site. When I originally opened this diary, I'd figured on making it about dreams I have. I sleep twice a day and remember many of them upon waking up and it's some pretty strange stuff. One thing we do have in common is that I'm no more a runner than you. I just happen to be running. The only reason I'm doing it is because I'd always wanted to experience running a marathon. I couldn't figure out a way to do it without actually doing it, so here I am. Many people say that once they get into it they get a 'high' off of it. Supposedly like morphine. I have to admit to having no such experience. There's never any run that I wouldn't like to quit 5 minutes into it. Once I've accomplished my goal I have no intention of ever doing it again. This could change. At any rate, if I should start another form of blog, I'll let you know.

South Park had a whole episode about this one time. It should have been titled: "In Through The Out Door" I'm thinking Led Zeppelin theme music would have been in order.

Yes, you got that name orgination correct. Although after I'd assumed that ID, I've wondered if maybe the pronunciation of the name was actually Ossweepay. They show old SNL's all the time in rerun but that's one I've never seen to verify. As a background on me, I read books seldom, and when I do they're typically reference books. I mostly read magazines, newspapers and internet articles. As the years go by my attention span gets shorter and shorter. I blame it on the internet. It's likely just a lazt, undisciplined mind. What music I listen to is what's played on the radio or available on Myspace. I do watch movies and like you have a Netflix membership. This time of year I don't watch much as I'm usually outside recreating. As a comparison, I'm a single, childless, petless, postal-working slacker. I'm almost the anti-Ploppy. I have to admit that while I retain the Netflix membership, my whole reason for obtaining it was to view the UP-series. Currently directed by Michael Apted and updated on the BBC every 7 years. Once I discovered the enormous library available, I also watched every Errol Morris film I could lay my hands on as well. I saw your "Run Lola Run" at a little artsy theater in Chicago shortly after it's U.S. release. It was a in little cubby hole that only seated about 50 people and everytime Lola screamed, it was as piercing and unnerving as fingers on a chalkboard.

How do you find time to read all these books and watch all these movies? Is it part of your job?
from mommylap :
You'd never seen it before? I love it. It was my introduction to a non-comedic (although very funny) one man show, and since I was studying playwrighting at the time had a somewhat profound effect on me. Now I have to watch The Killing Fields!
from dandydandy :
Yes I did! I'll have to write you more about that when I have more time.
from mommylap :
I haven't watched it since I was 17, but the shot where someone goes down the basement stairs to see the little zombie girl looking up from eating her mother. I could be remembering it wrong too.
from dandydandy :
Of course you're probably right that in real life my first reaction would be to recoil at the sight of the elephant man. I first saw the movie as a kid & maybe that is why my reaction was first sympathy instead of disgust.

I do backup archives. I think I prefer it to having a bunch o' unmentionable files. Lap has encouraged me to use Wordpad & I think that's the ticket for preventing writing in progress from twisting off into the black hole.

I'm so excited that "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf" is coming up in your queue. I don't even hate Sandy Dennis in it, and I pretty much hate her in everything.

It's hard to really pinpoint exactly why The Bends is the best album, in my opinion. I think it has to do with Thom Yorke's vocals and the dreamy yet cynical and funny lyrics. I remember when I first really started listening to the cd that I was in a big change in my life and it served as a backdrop to it. It evokes strong emotions for me.

I ran over to Amazon.com to check book lengths (because you were causing me to doubt myself and because my books are still packed up from the move) and uh, both books are in the 600 page range. I don't remember them being that long--probably because I tend to devour books.
from dandydandy :
Heh. You're going to stereotype all Russian authors based on one huge book writing guy? Aw, man. The Idiot and Crime & Punishment are both normal sized books. The characters can get annoying though--but, I think that's the idea.
from dandydandy :
This is an awesome blog. I glanced over your list of books to read and I do believe I began to salivate. Dostoevsky is one of my favorites. So much so, I want to shove my copies of his books into your hands. I also want to force feed you "Power of One" by Bryce Courtenay, but that would be really annoying of me, especially since it isn't on your list. Thanks for the reminder that you're over here.

update April 6, 2020: Sorry, we just had 8+ hours downtime due to a server problem. Restoring from backups took soooo long, but everything is back and no data was lost. Ay yay yay! Anyhow, hope everyone is well with the virus stuff.
