| dear mary, i'm sorry to hear about the diabetes. but i have hope for you: my stepmom's friend bev had a diabetic cat and by feeding it a holistic home-cooked food diet that included greenbeans (i kid you not) it regulated the diabetes without insulin shots. i can give you her number if you want as she is a turbo-cat-lover and could be a great resource. on another note, i was thinking of coming to visit you in bmore some time. i've never been there and miss you! i'll call you soon--it is overwhelming to think of how much there is to catch up on. love always, siri |

| Aw, thank you for the cake-flattery..! (I am still quite smitten myself.) It was my very first fancy cake, and it was sort of a fly-by-the-seat-of-the-pants affair. I just baked two run of the mill boxed chocolate cakes, and made a batch of standard icing sugar/butter/vanilla icing. I then stuck the two cakes atop one another with white icing, and then added cocoa to to the rest of it. After icing, I decided that it looked about the shape of a pillbox hat, and just traced a ribbon around the edge with pecans (it was either pecans or marshmellows, the only other option). I would have liked to improvise some coconut lace, but I thought that sounded a little too risky for a first timer. And that, my friend, is the story of the cake. In other news, due to your recent Scrabble reference, you've inspired in me a need to purchase and play Scrabble in the very near future. Take care, and, as always, I enjoy your diary immensely. |
