I saw you diary note about havoc and i'm new to diaryland. I just turned on notes. Would you let me know where you found havoc? my husband used to love this perfume and I can't find it. maria
from cariboutwo :
Congratulations!
from sunnflower :
Hi - I was doing the random guestbook signing thing and thought your user name was great. Being a mom, your entry about how childhood will look when it is all past and you are thinking back on it was brilliant and oh so true. I am glad I found your diary! Hope you'll stop by Suburban Island sometime.
from maddy :
Might want to try bananas for those leg cramps. They can be a shortage of potassium. However, if they occur after a workout, they're probably a flood of uh... *thinkin' here...* I forget. I used to know. The after-workout leg cramps (also called 'sweat cramps') can be avoided by a real, long cool-down stretch after a workout.
from iwillsurvive :
Hiya! I have never heard of a vet's office leaving pets alone in cages all night. What if there were a fire or something? I'm so glad you got to take Cousin Dog home with you that night. He was much better off!
from strangerlucy :
hmm, if you're describing what I think you may be, hubby's recent scope found 2 internal hemorrhoids he wasn't aware that he had- which may have caused those distressing events- it could be as simple as that- I'll hope it's not colitis. oh the second poem gave me shivers.
from cariboutwo :
Please feel better. Here's hoping it's just the weather and will pass quickly.
from cariboutwo :
I want to say "Happy Birthday" but it sounds like that might not be the case. Are you okay? I must say, I kind of like the way you spent the day. Maybe that's how I'll spend my 40th this summer. A day in bed with candy! Woo-hoo! I like it. I really think we all need a burst of spring.
from kitchenlogic :
Oh man...I knew it was your birthday but did I stop here first thing to wish you a happy one?!!!!! Happy Birthday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

decided to explain "Pure Citrus Orange Air freshener" here vs. guestbook- It's hard to find around here, only Walmart has it, maybe that's just a local situation. Anyway, this spray comes in a 7 oz can (non aerosol, no chemicals) and is the only inexpensive, natural stuff that totally gets rid of smoke odor or heavy cooking smells(ozium is so heavy and does not smell very nice in my opinion)- besides I'm addicted to the orange smell-which is intense for a few minutes, then stays (but at a nicer level) It's made my North American corp, under Pure Citrus, Inc , out of Kennesaw Georgia. The cans are usually buried on the shelves where the air freshener aerosols like Glade would be. I'd buy a case of it, but I can never seem to find more than a few cans on the shelf.
from angelbutt :
I detest car lots, and you know, this probably doesn't come as a surprise to anyone. ;) Dealerships are hurting big time. I get at least one "you've been approved for $30,000 toward the purchase of a new car" letter every week. Bleh.
from sidanen :
Rainstripe, sweetie, I am back. Meg finally got the template fixed. BTW, loved the quote you added on Saturday for the Shuttle explosion, I have added it to my own, for my scrape book. Huggs to you and hope your are well. Sidanen/Zerah'el
from blu-iguana :
{{{hugZ}}} I'm so sorry about your uncle.
from erlenweg6 :
I saw that "Joined For Life" program also. Very captivating little girls!
from erlenweg6 :
Cloisters?? An art museum? There is mention of 'the cloisters' in "Marjorie Morningstar" by Herman Wouk, except that it's a lilac grove...
from erlenweg6 :
hey, congratulations on finishing your screen play!!! I bet it's wonderful! :-)
from joleen :
I hope the steroids do the trick for White Dog! And hey, if you get a new diary, please let me know, I'd love to read it - I don't want to lose touch with you. Thanks. :)
from kitchenlogic :
I hope the steroids do the trick! I'd be deleting the guestbook if I were you. I have a hard enough time dealing with nasty comments myself, I don't know how well a 12 year old can handle them. And...let me know where you move your diary to!
from strangerlucy :
well, I see our guestbooks are all down for the present, so just wanted to say that I'm glad white dog's bloodcount is ok! As for a new diary, I hope you'll email me your new name if you decide to change. As for son's guestbook- well, that's a toughie- I know that in live journal they have a comment system instead of guestbooks, and "friends only" is a comment option- you can also disable anonymous posts there- that's where my daughter keeps her journal.
from summer-gale :
RE:"I've been skirting around some issues, trying to define them. It's almost time" That sounds so ominous. I hope everything is OK!
from strangerlucy :
Hi- I was reading through some of your older entries tonight, and noticed one where you made a meatloaf (the fence afire post, remember? Sure you do) Anyway, have you ever substituted raw oatmeal for the bread crumbs? I do that all the time, because I don't like cooked oatmeal by itself, and it works pretty well in the meatloaf- This is also a sneaky way of getting something healthy into reluctant kids. My husband the meatloaf fanatic gives it his stamp of approval.
from lilnik :
I totally understand giving the family the cold shoulder, but why can't you find a friend or another relative to go with you to the 12th night program? :)
from gofigure :
You are, of course, completely right about allowing him to keep his phone. Screw 'em.
from jaded-lemon :
Hello Rainstripe. I'm afraid you don't know me but i was browsing through the diaires & stumbled across yours. Your entries are strangly engaging. Realistic, creative - you are a indeed talented writer.
from joleen :
Your past couple of entries have made me very emotional, very empathetic I suppose. Your writing has changed a bit, become more introspective. Very nice. I love what you wrote about your cousin, the Memorial. I hope when I go someone as wonderful as you takes care of my girls for me. Poor Cousin Dog, and no one for you to ask - what does Cousin Dog prefer, etc.? It makes me want to cry. I'm sure all will work out.
from gofigure :
Cooking is, I feel, the best therapy for anything that ails you. I wish you some happy, relaxing time in the kitchen today. ~Mimi
from joleen :
That's a beautiful puzzle. I'm sorry about your cousin. I hope you had fun in the Country.....and dogs are good. Good luck with everything.
from joleen :
I'm catching up on diaries, so I've just read several of your entries and I have a lot of thoughts.... first, I've gotten email from people at Classmates.com, and I could tell by the subjects, and the names of the senders, that it was indeed from people I once knew. Your guy may no longer use that email address. He may have signed up and never gone back. People do that. Since you have the Gold membership I think you should definitely try again. But it's only been like a week, right? The guy I met at the party recently took almost a week and a half to get back to me. Don't be discouraged. Second, I'm so sorry you have to live in fear with all the terrorist warnings, and I hope none of them come to pass, really. I worry that it's propaganda, not real at all, designed solely to prey on the fears of people just like you, sensitive wonderful caring people living in the city. Try not to worry, if you can. :) Third, I hope your time in the Country is everything you want it to be. I'm totally envious of you and your wonderful long weekend. I look forward to reading all about it!!! Take care.
from joleen :
Oh wow, you did it! I've been sorely tempted to get the Gold at Classmates.com, almost did one night, late, but I couldn't, just couldn't. I hope you hear back. I'm sure you'll hear back, soon. I just hope it's what you want to hear. Ooooo, how exciting! You've got some balls!!!
from cariboutwo :
I love that you wax culinary in your diary! I tried your quickie-carbonara last night and it was y-u-m-m-y! Didn't have any fresh Parmesean, so I used a little goat cheese. Very good. Thanks for the info!
from arcasha :
Yeah...I've got a really bad feeling about the guestbook. Both mine and Blu's have completely disappeared also. I really hope they re-appear bye tomorrow or I'll really be pissed.
from joleen :
I almost forgot! HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!!! :))))
from joleen :
I used to wear a St Christopher medal my mom gave me as a 7th grade graduation present. I wore it for years, 14K gold. But now I can't stand the feel of anything on my neck, nor around it. Your pork loin roast will be wonderful, I'm drooling just reading the ingredients. I make a killer pork roast myself. It's marinated in something similar, but red wine instead of the balsamic vinegar. I thought, "Red wine?" the first time, but I've made it so many times now it's not a consideration, just the recipe. I hope your bleeding is normal. That happened to me once, and I deduced it to be a miscarriage.....not to frighten you, but maybe you should look into it?? I worry.
from sidanen :
I hope you brought in the plant tonight.. It was very cold here.. But anyway.. in about two weeks it should be safe for you just to take it out of its pot and put it in a hole in the ground. It may bloom again.. but then maybe not.. at the least you have extended its life a season. Put some nice potting soil in the hole and water well. :) Sidanen
from joleen :
Thanks for your "interview" stories. You're right about regretting whatever I'd said unless I was rehearsed. I turned to Skipper and said, "Where's Dianne, she should be doing this?", because she's been protesting and interviewing (CNN even!) since the late '60s, but he said, "I think she would come off as too rehearsed, you'll be better because you've never done it before, and you'll be fresher and more sincere", or something to that effect. Still, I think I came off as a total goob! And no one has called me or anything - maybe because it was in the Final Edition? Jeez. Hey, your entry from the other day where you were all upset about the news stories, I wanted to say, Yeah, I understand, and here's a big hug for you. I know it's late, but I know how hard it is to be sensitive to it all, when it's all so upsetting. We'll survive somehow. :)
from sidanen :
Sorry it's been a bummer of a day. I know within my heart it is true, that we are evolving. Just be patient,God/dess seems to be. Spring filled East TN huggs to you!
from joleen :
Thank you so much for what you wrote to me. It felt like a hug.
from joleen :
I see I am totally monopolizing your Notes, but oh well......I wrote an entire entry not too long ago all about the malfunctioning "next" link. I let Andrew know, but never got a response to my email. The thing is, the closer you get to the Index page, that's when the "next" link starts to link to it only. If you go back farther, like maybe 15 entries or more, it will work as intended. It's a "glitch", a "bug", and some people know about it, some don't. When I'm reading diaries, I start at the Index page and go backwards, never going back first, then forwards to present. I wish more people were aware of it, or maybe more people could write to Andrew or something. It's a hassle indeed. Re: the porn popups, I have no clue. That's just weird.
from joleen :
I like that you still call it The World Trade Center, not "Ground Zero", because that's what it is, The World Trade Center. I also like the picture taken in the reflection of the TV. I never would've guessed that's what it was. I thought it was a funky lens. Very nice.
from joleen :
That's funny, I inherited My Name is Asher Lev, and it's been on a bookcase in my home, whatever home I've lived in, since I can remember. But I've never read it. And to think there's even a sequel. Huh. Funny, that.
from joleen :
Thanks so much for that link. I just listened to the Beatles sing "Birthday", via Real Player, and it was the best thing that's happened all day. I mean it. However, I felt pressured to dance again, "I would like you to dance, take a cha cha cha chance..." I should've danced Thursday, shouldn't I have? Thanks again. :)
from erlenweg6 :
Thanks so much for your kind comment in my guestbook! Your diary came highly recommended by simplify and I'm very glad to 'meet' you and looking forward to reading through your diary! (and yes, that's me at age 3 in the corner of that picture)
from sidanen :
Your batting a thousand today darling... I started crying while reading you describe younger Son playing the guitar. It was like I was there. Go to the gym and kick some butt. And BTW -- there is a property manager position in the paper today!!! Yeah!
from angelbutt :
I can well believe that Peeps have their own website. If students are silly enough to spend their parents' money on a college course devoted to Peeps, I can well imagine Peeps have a substantial presence on the web. I did not see Wicked and if it turned Disneyesque, ever so glad I did not. There could have been singing and any other number of annoying things that do not belong in movies. :P
from angelbutt :
Peeps are a scruge on humanity. Resist them! I'm reading Confessions of An Ugly Stepsister, too. After Wicked, this one is a little harder for me to get into.
from arcasha :
Hey, your diary is really coming along. I haven't been here in a while...Sorry. I love the pics. Even snow looks good at your place. You really should get yourself a guestbook, though. I like Getstring (http://getstring.com) because it allows me to respond to entries. I like that. Arc
from maddy :
Hey, didja know that most shellfish allergies that occur in adulthood are the result of eating two or more types of shellfish at the same time? In other words, that fabulous bag of mixed goodies was probably the culprit. If I were in your shoes, I would carefully try just eating one type of seafood/shellfish at a sitting. You will more than likely be fine. It's when they're in combination that they cause a problem! :)
from sidanen :
So sorry to hear about the seafood allergies, check with the doctor to see if it could be a seasonal think- as some animal produce some chemicals seasonally. I am allergic to strawberries and chocolate... so it could be worse. Sidanen
from pieceofmind1 :
Hi, I love Moll Flanders, and I want to read it too. The character is rich in detail and strong. I think the miniseries might be available on VHS/DVD. I saw excerpts from the miniseries, with Alex Kingston in the role-she is so lovely as well as talented. I love to watch her on the tv series ER, too.
from sidanen :
Rainstripe -- LOL --- loved the picture of "Orange Cat".. I am the Tennessee Lady of the earlier Water discussion.... and now my daughter and I must tell you... your NYC Cat Is a University Of Tennessee Volunteer!!! That cat could try out for the cheering squad with the Hound Dog and the Band with that coloring!! Just ribbing you... Miss my kitties :(... Sidanen
from simplify :
the john nash story was on 60 minutes. it was quite a good interview and i didn't get the impression that he was THAT upset about the changes made to the story. the main one they mentioned was that his schizophrenia didn't start in his 20's as the movie dipicted.
from pieceofmind1 :
Hi Rainstripe, I have a close friend from college, who lives and works (NBC) in NYC, so I was deeply touched by your description of ground zero, and your addition to the memorial there. I was part of a memorial service here in California today, as it happens, honoring a young man who left the world, and us, bereft when he made the choice to depart early. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and support in my guestbook, so that I could come and discover you:)
from cariboutwo :
Is there anything more warm than a sweet dog sleeping?
from simplify :
awwww... i love that. my favorite part is may God hold you in the palm of His hand.
from mom2kendall :
Thanks for signing my guestbook! I'm not fond of Hildi...keep hoping she'll fall off a ladder or something in those heels ;-) I do remember the "circus tent" she made in the one room...Odd woman...and she gets paid for doing stuff like that! LOL
from i-just-hope :
i love elton john. thanks for signing my gbook, and the search for the sea glass continues
from joleen :
Thanks for the encouraging words re: doctors. I'll go eventually, I'll get health insurance so I can go, eventually, and eventually, I will become an adult - adults practice preventive maintenance, right? Oh, I think it's great that your sons cook. I hope they do laundry too. I really think men should know how to do all the same things women do. I hate it when a grown man can't cook, can't wash his own clothes, can't balance his own checkbook. He should do all of that, and know how to fix cars and mow lawns too! Right? :) )Sorry I pissed you off - I'm outspoken, you should've been warned....)
from bathsheba :
Well, I wasn't sure she WASN'T dead - I had to go to IMDB to find out in the middle of writing my entry (I am talking about Shelley Winters here. Sorry, I'm like that person who enters the room in mid-sentence and you have no idea what they're referring to and spend half the conversation trying to get up to speed)!
from cariboutwo :
You are amazing. Would you be willing to give my husband lessons on how to care for sick people? That would be great, thanks.
from simplify :
i read most of your entries the other day and really enjoyed my time spent with you. thanks!
from gofigure :
I have a great lentil chili recipe that I got out of Bon Appetit a few years back. Let me know if you want it! You make a little buffet out of it with bowls of shredded cheese, sour cream, chopped green onions, etc. It's a pretty dish.
from gofigure :
I can just tell that you are dying to share your pad thai recipe with me, aren't you? Pretty please?
from arcasha :
You ARE happy, aren't you. Seems a bit out of place at diaryland where most of us are a tad more tormented. Arc
from sidanen :
Rainstripe -- That Tennessee tap water comes from a spot about 30 minutes from where I live. Since the Town of Greenville is in the foothills of the Applachian Mountians and right off of the Nolichucky river.. should be pretty good. I am thinking the the city water supply is from a spring. -- ANy way.. they sell that same water here... and we all drink it too!! Cheers... to your health.. Sidanen
from joleen :
Oops, I knew that didn't look right....I meant "elicited", not "illicited". Sorry.
from joleen :
Tennessee tap water! That illicited a genuine guffaw from me. Thanks for the laugh. Thirsty??
from joleen :
Thanks for the note - Bobby Flay is annoying, but he occasionally redeems himself by showing a touch of humility - you should've seen him in Wolfgang Puck's kitchen! That could have been a fight, but Flay was quite composed. I look forward to reading your diary!
from cariboutwo :
Happy Belated! Sounds like you got a good man there!
from cariboutwo :
Black 'n' Blu burgers. Mmmmmm. That's what I'd be doing with that there cheese.
from arcasha :
Hmmmm. I've never gotten a "note" before. Thanks Arc
from maddy :
Hey rainstripe! :) I've added you to the ancientring diaryring. Nice to have another adult kickin' around the place!
from sam :
Thank you for your message in my guestbook! I found out today that I am being laid-off, and was feeling a little gloomy (understandably, I think). Anyways, I just some of your earlier entries (about 9/11) and was reminded of all the reasons I am lucky. Thank you for that, too.
from gotangerine :
hey. i am still laughing about the urine sample entry. i mean, the URINE SAMPLE entry. too funny. pardon me for appearing nosy, or did i just miss the mention of why you're getting a urine sample?
from gotangerine :
hi. i read 2 of your most recent entries, and was heartened to realize that not all diarylanders are 20 somethings, holed up in a hotel, cutting on themselves, and ranting. i just appreciated your rant about the cable/vcr/tv thing, that was funny! thanks.
from witchmedic :
Hey, thanks for signing my book. LOL - loved the urine sample entry, that one made me laugh. OH MY GOD, IT JUST STARTED SNOWING HERE!!!!!!!! ... uh, nevermind.
from sidewaysrain :
That's a great idea... separate duvets! This could save my relationship!
from mikorra :
thanks...it seems that you are grieving as well...for many things...dare I give you an internet hug :::hug:::
