don't worry about life's "sameness", or not having anything interesting to share. not every day is love and rockets, you know. you make this site whatever you want and you owe no one anything on it. here's to a rock n roll 05 for you and yours \m/\m/ - c
from gretl :
ah yes, of course. I can see this primate is definitely qualified to do my job. He's hired! Thanks for sending! :)
from storyoflo :
THAT IS THE CUTEST THING EVER! Thanks for showing me that sheet set. I think I just passed out from joy at seeing the cuteness. And happy belated birthday!!
from cosmokane :
happy birthday!!! long live the rock! \m/\m/
from katherinhand :
happy birthday, lovelypunk!! yay for the good cancer!!!
from cosmokane :
oh my god, memphis and the house of mews. i am so jealous. i need to make a pilgrimage down there for that and also graceland (shades of jim jarmusch's "mystery train")...
from katherinhand :
dear smarty p, i am finally catching up on diaries i should be reading but have not because i am indeed an idiot. but. yours! i feel 83% certain we have bumped elbows at some point, like in the sweaty room at the hemlock or on valencia or something. henceforth i shall wear a pink carnation at all times so as to be easily recognizable and i wil ask you to do the same. xoxxo, jennifer katherinhand.
from cosmokane :
good job on the... job! i am very happy for you.
from almostgoldsf :
congrats on the new job!!
from myra-lee :
Congratulations on the job!! I always nearly pee when I'm suddenly excited.
from cosmokane :
holy cow, that sounds like a heck of a trip. good for you! i had no idea roddy b from fnm was in imperial teen...
from dearedwin :
that movie was so engaging, but so heartbreaking at the same time. i hope it helps get him a real girlfriend; i really do.
from almostgoldsf :
I can't wait to see the Rodney on the ROQ movie...
from cosmokane :
ps. i am *not* ashamed of listening to def leppard. geek that i am, i completely worship mutt lange's production on the "hysteria" album. however, the first half of the album is noticeably better than the second.
from cosmokane :
wow, thanks for the kind words re: the band! if only you could see me blushing right now. i like the pun of how the music was "effortless" :) and thank you very much for that very nice rock and pop set you spun at the attic. one of the best dj sets i've heard in a while!
from almostgoldsf :
your entry made me smile because 1) I wrote the capsule review you referred to and 2)one of my LJ friends was just posting about how she adores a certain boy in the Washdown, and who she is now connected to through my fri*ndst*r profile. The online journaling world is a tiny one indeed!
from almostgoldsf :
your Coachella plans sound lovely! i have yet to commit, since i'm not sure if i'll be working by then... ugh.
from cosmokane :
oh my god - vaselka! possibly my favorite place to eat in ny. the old breakbeat science store used to be just down the street from it, hopefully the bodega across the street with the mural on the side is still there. memories...
from cosmokane :
balancing career changes with love life can be the toughest thing. i myself might have to do that soon. thanks for the candid account. i'll probably refer back to it myself sometime for reassurance :) - c
from myra-lee :
I've had Diane Arbus' autobiography at the top of my To Read list for a year. And I think that MOMA exhibit just moved up there from having been in my end of the state (at the Getty in L.A.), and I kept meaning to go. What I'm trying to say is: That's great that you went to that exhibit...I'm jealous!
from perena :
I like ur nick name its cute! it would fit me too if i were smart at all.
from almostgoldsf :
you know, there's a Laurel and her close friend Jen in my food writing course... it's so silly, but, for at least a moment or two, I wondered if it was your Laurel...
from dearedwin :
i will never get over how many shows you go to. not even in my heyday did i go to so many! also, i was wondering if you give out your friendster i.d. info. i wanna see!
from almostgoldsf :
Q is such an excellent place for the inexpensive comfort food... the tater tot topped mac-n-cheese is especially delish.
from cosmokane :
i am the biggest animal lover, but for some reason, i found that first sentence (and the first paragraph) of the gerbil entry sidesplittingly funny. you probably didn't intend it that way. but deadpan deliveries can have that effect, you know. - c
from cosmokane :
will do! our trusty drummer/sound engineer is mailing me a copy of our final master, so once i get that, i'll send you a copy :) \m/\m/ -c
from cosmokane :
hey smartypunk, can i send you a copy of my band's new cd? :) -c
from cosmokane :
i'm not sure if it's any consolation, but what you're feeling isn't necessarily a function of being married (ie, it's very possible to be single and no fun :P). i recently read the best advice i've seen in a while: plant a plant and pet a pet. you know, if i had a cat, i would talk its poor head off. you should do the same :)
from gingeryette :
dear lord, thank god i made my appointment last month. My stylist told me the two busiest times of the year - christmas and after burning man. She says all the idiots go out of town, fuck their hair up and then expect to fix it right away.
from almostgoldsf :
I realize you're vacation-focused at the moment... but, I'm writing up a benefit for the Exploding Hearts that's coming up at the Bottom of the Hill for flavorpill's SF newlsetter... I'll give the BotH office a call tomorrow, but thought you might know of folks I should talk to about this (or who's pulling it together)... cheers.
from cosmokane :
man, i am so tempted by the lookout! records show, mainly because of the queers. they really pick up where the ramones left off. speaking of which, i'm so jealous you saw that ramones movie. i was at a jazz show that night. i hope it comes out on dvd or something. ironically, the reason i might ditch the queers is to go chase girls :P - c
from cosmokane :
geezus, that exploding hearts business is just unreal. don't feel regret. if anything, you and nate helped make their last hours on earth more enjoyable. - c
from cosmokane :
you'd laugh - whenever i get home, i always empty my pockets and compulsively tear to bits whatever paper there is. at first, it started as an attempt to foil identity theft. but now i think it's just a nervous habit. in any case, i sadly don't have my ticket stub anymore. thanks for the offer, though!
from cosmokane :
strange, a girl friend today told me about how she had a huge adrian brody crush. i didn't believe her until i read your entry. women can be so weird sometimes. - c
from cosmokane :
my theory is that every minute spent at ikea takes two off of one's life. at first it was fun to gawk at all the swedish names and hot young shopping things. but now it's no fun, now that i realize that none of the hot young shopping things are single, and that parking is a bitch and a half. anyways, so i was wondering if you could enlighten me on the difference between the hot hot heat and the yeah yeah yeahs. i keep imagining this weird hybrid, like the hot hot yeahs or something. - c
from cosmokane :
haha, at least that's better than being a young, boring, single person who doesn't see his friends anymore! :P i'm sending out the goods tomorrow :) -c
from cosmokane :
congratulations on your 250th! those things can really creep up on you. hopefully soon i can fling some goodies your way :) -c
from cosmokane :
ok so i was bored at work too (despite my no-distractions edict), and i found out via friendster that we're SOMEHOW CONNECTED. that's just the wildest thing! (i added you as a "friend" :) -c
from cosmokane :
i'm actually going to the ian mackaye thing! (as a creepy fan who name his cat after the band, how could i not???) maybe see you there? DIY NOT DEAD
from cosmokane :
i'm glad to know there are still good tourist-y things to do in sf. i myself am a dashiell hammett fan. how could anyone not be??? and how was le cercle rouge? did you see the mc5 movie? invite me out sometime so i can get a glimpse of that rock n roll lifestyle :)
from cosmokane :
congratulations on your hip hubby! now when i'm out and about, i'll keep an eye out for him :)
from anti-label :
yo the only good emo band is finch
from infrequency :
christ! your right! when i read that, i groaned out loud.
from cosmokane :
i'm not normally for pill-popping, but melatonin can help regulate one's sleep cycle. sorry to hear of the loss of your superduper extra-rare cd. i have some drum and bass 12"s that i would probably rescue out of a fire ahead of some people. hm. did i really just say that? -c
from cosmokane :
hello smartypunk. i'm not sure if you still need a book recommendation, but right now i'm reading haruki murakami's "the wind-up bird chronicles," and it's pretty good. murakami's books are good because they work on both the page-turner level and the english-major-discussion level. i'm jealous you have a book club :) -c
from cosmokane :
thanks for the swedish rock tip! i really like bimbo's the venue. what my friends like to do is have a few rounds of drinks and/or pool across the street at kennedy's beforehand...and yes, i had a cat once. his name is fugazi, and he now lives with my ex's family. i am still friendly with them, so sometimes i drive down to santa barbara to see them. and him (which is honestly at least 50% of the reason i drive down). in fact, i am driving down to see him in a few weeks. maybe sometime i'll put up a webpage of fugazi (furry, not dischord) pictures :)
from cosmokane :
your cat is so cute! aww. \m/\m/
from cosmokane :
hey, don't feel self-conscious or self-censoring. people _are_ allowed to have a subsconscious, you know. i don't know if you have a record player, but i have some one man army 7"'s that are just lying around (an acquaintance of mine used to date their singer). would you like them?
from cosmokane :
welcome back, smartypunk! what i suggest to people who lose their entries due to d-land/computer flakiness is that they write their entries in notepad or word first (and save the files), then just copy and paste the text into the d-land entry box. this has saved me more than once :) -c

so a friend and i tried to go to popscene last night, but the line was down the block, and we were freezing. plus, we felt old (most everyone looked about 18). is it like this every week? :P if it's any consolation, i did bring along a little sign i made that said "SMARTYPUNK?" because i have no idea what you look like and i thought it might be funny to wave that around the club. so mr. marr will have to autograph my electronic album some other time. have a great time in australia, and let us know how it was :) i've always fantasized about moving there someday.
from cosmokane :
i just read on popscene's site that mr. marr isn't performing live tonight; but he'll still be there to meet fans and sign autographs. are you still thinking of going?
from cosmokane :
i'll go to the show if you go :) i've never been to popscene before, though. when do you think mr. marr will go on?
from cosmokane :
congratulations!!!
from cryin-soul :

from cosmokane :
i know some pretty cool missuses. that you don't have to worry about. (here we could go through a rock n roll call of cool couples like yo la tengo and also the guy from rancid who has a wife in some other band) also, your job might be no fun, but worry about that after the wedding. first things first, right? keep your chin up, and stay contemporary-looking :)
from cosmokane :
i have no idea what "pbf" means, but i can hazard a guess. that was a situation straight out of a movie; i have more experience with that than i'd like. those things just make life more interesting, though. keep your head straight and your game face on, and before you know it, you'll have your rock n roll lifestyle back. :)
from cosmokane :
dude, you're getting married in a month - if you weren't about lists right now, there'd be something wrong with you! you'd be surprised at how interesting seemingly mundane details can seem to others. best of luck with the wedding preparations :)
from cosmokane :
so i've just read a whole lot, lot of your entries, backwards to forwards, forwards to backwards, and it's weird to do so with a stranger, like a eating a hot meal really fast. now i want to say congratulations on your upcoming marriage and also finishing gone with the wind, my friend gigabit could have gone to neko case with you (she wrote a whole entry about it - http://gigabit.diaryland.com/noneko.html), where did you score that book on the minutemen, i liked 8 mile too, i am so so jealous that you've seen rocket from the crypt, and on and on. cheers to someone who still likes the sound of guitars, maybe you can teach me something or two about it :)
from maralisa :
I'm getting all excited for you, it half makes me wish I was planning a wedding too! (this is glitterscars by the way - extra diaryland accounts means I get to add more people to my favourites ;)
from punksniper :
awesome you are into 77 style punk, nice, and your diaries rox too.
from infrequency :
hey there, don't you get the feeling that the guy who made that bumble bee game will be or is a serial killer? 10 years from now his neighbours will be saying, but he was such a quiet young man.
