Magus sir, how are you? I miss yr entries, though I really only check diaryland every month or so now.
from penmaster :
whew. glad to know you're still around. =)
from mangofarmer :
*hug*
from cherryaa :
Uh-huh :) So is the nitro/rollercoaster experience in any way related to your possible new crush? Just asking, you understand ;) Cx
from mammas-pills :
I, too, have difficulty relating to the human race. Perhaps I'm just easily annoyed...
from cherryaa :
What a **lovely** note! Thank you! Huge hugs, C xxxxx
from cherryaa :
Sounds good, Magus! Yeah, physical tiredness feels different from mental/emotional tiredness, doesn't it - healthier: just as long as you work your mental & emotional "muscles" later in the day :) Looks like you're in a very good place for regrouping & moving on .... Wishing you all the blessings you need. Cherry xx
from tarkis :
Good Luck today on your new job...
from cherryaa :
You sound good! Yowzer!! It's a new moon - good sign :) Keep up the refreshed interest in .. well, stuff. It's your strength! Lossa lurve, C x
from mangofarmer :
I picked up both Foucault's Pendulum and The Name of the Rose. I've heard good things about both, so I'm excited.
from biggestlie :
I'd actually really like to meet you if I go to UofT.
from cherryaa :
... dancers, models, fitness trainers, property developers, architects, artists, poets, writers, literary agents, actors, designers, stylists, producers ....
from cherryaa :
" cops, road workers, carpenters, roofers, contact sport players, and just plain guys with beards all look gay to me." .... Trust me, Magus: if they're halfway good-looking, they *are*!! Bane of the single woman [sigh]. Oh, yeah, you left out lawyers, professors and doctors ....
from cherryaa :
Yeah, but you're right! THANK YOU!! I may have to print out your note & stick it on the kitchen wall. You rock, Magus :) xxx
from nividian :
Your g-book won't come up and don't know if it's on my end or not, but either way I'm forced to go back to the old way of leaving you a message. I like the image of you all sore from rugby. Makes me smile. I'm glad to hear you're feeling good about so many things, and sending positive thoughts of the others. So, yeah. I wanted to say hi 'n stuff, because I haven't in a while.
from mangofarmer :
I often cry over alcohol. But probably not in the way that you mean.
from solitus :
Thank you, sir, for the wonderful concern. No, me rib isn't broken for there's too much fat the seat belt had to squish through to get to bone. I'm just a little bewildered by all these aches and pains since I didn't hurt *myself*- it seems to hurt more when someone else causes the pain :) Tah!
from solitus :
Thanks for your understanding... I would be dangerous if I actually paid attention... I'll hafta go back and reread the article that I, all by myself, cut and pasted :) Weee!! You rock!
from solitus :
You're right again, chief. That's something I worry about when Chad talks about running for office- not just the low-level smear campaign he'll endure but also the pressure of standing up against political bullies (people that have to have it their way). Just thinking about it turns my tummy... Oh, by the by, I'll get a gold membership back up for you (l8tr this week as part of my "be nice and maybe karma will be good to me" campaign. To even it out, I also gave an (obviously) single mom five bucks the other day. God bless single moms (they put up with their own kids) and writers. Tah!
from mangofarmer :
Well, I do have a leftover Whopper (I had a coupon!) in my fridge. You can have that if you want. Mmmm, delicious delicious Burger King.
from cherryaa :
Good Lord. You're a startling example of how to pull out of a depression. I'm jealous! Congratulations on all the sorting-out & tivitating :) I shall try to follow your example.
from cherryaa :
Bleugh, you sound a tad depressed. In that case, extra multi-thanks for your message: I sure know what a big compliment it is when a depressed person bothers to care! :) xxxxx Well done for going to work, writing your diary, playing with the cats & generally getting on with life. Do something nice for your self today: that's an order!! Love, C xxx
from cherryaa :
So send me your story. You know, the outline - the *story*. I'm good at that. You're better than me at syntax & stuff, and I'm good at stories. Try me! Aha, my email's changed. You'll have to use the link. Cheers! Cxx
from mangofarmer :
Hehehe. Apparently I'm not a nice person either. That, or I'm just really bitter. Maybe both. ;)
from cherryaa :
I read EM Forster's Maurice on holiday; it's extraordinary. Apparently there was a film of it, but I imagine Rupert Everett must have been badly miscast. So I'm glad I haven't seen it. Think you've chosen a worthy hero :)
from cherryaa :
O! That's not my web page! It's some clever japanese person's! Can't post my url coz it's my full name ... That cherryaa has a neat site, though, agreed. I'm catching up on your diary - glad you've been posting :)
from cherryaa :
O Mr Magus, you are so ... wonderful and elegant! Thank you for your messages. How come we have heard so little, to date, about the wedding week? I'm getting a small pussy (heh, as if .... a kitten) in the next few weeks so, following your exmple, I'd better stock up on rugs! And Febreeze. They must sell it in Canada, too: it's a godsend.
from nividian :
It wasn't TMI, but the response-thought it provoked probably would be. Tee hee!
from cherryaa :
I hope the wedding was lovely. They are lucky people to have a friend like you :)
from cherryaa :
<<"Two Cheers for Democracy" ...... read the first entry and realized that I might actually have a crush on Mr. Forster ...... >> Man, so have I! Fell in love with EM (without knowing gender) at school. Top writer! Glad you braved the ladder heights to get there .... :) And thank you for your support during a tricky time. Don't know who you are but I love you (aaah!)
from solitus :
Ah- have no doubt, mon amis- we are making headway with the cat's vocabulary. We started when she was very young by (painfully) annunciating words clearly and giving her teeny little treats when she immitated the correct sound.... She can meow "Hungry" and "Mommy"- she's very good with "eee" sounds. She also does little head bobs when she's trying to tell us something, apparently our cue to pay attention. [Oh, please tell me you are not taking me seriously...]
from cherryaa :
Are you sure you need sticky-out veins in your biceps?
from cherryaa :
Wow. I came here to say thankyou for the fabulous note, Magus, and then got socked in the eye by that one from Solitus! Jeez, I hope I never meet anyone like that! How would you keep counsel? Yuk. I bet he was a bully at school (see that masterful segue back to topic?!) It is quite saddening, I feel, that hurt from the past stays with us so long. Interesting that Solitus made a link to the Stamford "Prison experiment" recently. If a healthy 20-year-old man can be turned into a Victim in only six days, then certainly a child can be thoroughly Victim-ized over a period of years! It's great to hear you're having fun with your physical "presentation", Magus :) And I agree that exercise puts you more in touch with your own body (which isn't exactly what you said, but still). I do need to follow your lead! This whole business about other people's perceptions is fascinating, isn't it? Maybe I'd better save any further musings for an entry in my own diary .... Love, Cx
from solitus :
That is so spooky-scary that you mentioned "corporate mercenaries" because we met a guy this past weekend that is leaving to go to Iraq and be part of the "Global Police", getting paid by a private organization to kill and steal. I thought it was something like INTERPOL but he didn't know what that was so I guess it's not. There are no rules of engagement for these people- they do not answer to any military or UN agency and it's perfectly okay to steal from the dead and almost encouraged unless it's art or religious artifacts. He was excited to tell us all about and the whole time Chad and I were looking at each other in horror and disbelief.
from cherryaa :
Today's is a beautiful entry, Magus! Thanks for the reminder that we are all special and worthwhile :) xxx
from solitus :
What a relief. I was really beginning to think I was stifled and discouraged by societal expectations and not living up to my 'gender role' all by my lonesome. I totally agree with everything you said- it just took me awhile to realize I had a new note because of the year's worth of spam I had to drudge through. Oh, and it's like I once said a long time ago when people called me crazy, "It depends on what your norm is." Thanks so much for your input!
from cherryaa :
Get well soon :)
from cherryaa :
I had to look up a recipe for butter tarts. They sound great! Just realised I have the ingredients, so maybe I'll make some. Loved your entry today :)
from cherryaa :
There's no stopping you today, is there? Cool! Super-heroic! You are ...... CoolDiarylandMan!!!! ;)
from cherryaa :
Congratulations on six months!!! Crushes are fun, aren't they ;) {Am I echoing you, by any chance?} Enjoy. x
from cherryaa :
Oops, sorry, Solitus. And you're a she. You're still right, though - Magus, don't edit other people's work (except mine, of course ..) Write your own! x
from cherryaa :
I just read your note, after submitting today's entry. My god! You're me!!! How weird is that? Oh, and extremely reassuring :) We are not alone. I'll write some more by the end of the week - honest! (Well, maybe AT the end of the week.) Pay attention to Solitude! S/he's right, you should. Show up at the page, the rest will happen :)) Cx
from solitus :
I never did thank you for your words of wisdom and experience reagrding uncertain living arangements, but I'm thanking you now. I think it helped Best Friend ease up a little once I told her how it may look through her childrens' eyes. Ironically, it just so happens that the one bedroom apartment is pretty large and also on the trendy side of town, two blocks from where my Hubbubby once lived when he was a bachelor. You should write a book. Seriously.
from cherryaa :
Forgive if I'm being horribly jejune, but wouldn't it be a good idea to post in your fitness forum about your hurt feelings? OK, if these guys know your real name & location, maybe it wouldn't be too clever - but if, as I assume, you have an online identity which is the real you but in disguise, surely you have the perfect opportunity to give them a chance? It seems quite likely they'd become a lot less hompohobic around one of their own: you know, "one of my best friends is a .... [fill in the bigoted blank]". Why not try it & see what happens?
from penmaster :
mmm...nipple. *slurp*
from cherryaa :
Well, Mum rarely looks at my diary - it might disturb her lovely delusions! Hope you're enjoying your nice, clean apartment :)
from cherryaa :
Cor, thanks for your lovely note :) About the born addict thing - one of my behaviour addict friends (food & gambling) read my entry, and confided that he'd been a teenage beer monster, too! So it seems we all start off abusing whatever is available, then move on to excessively do our own chosen, excessive things. As you say, it kind of takes some pressure off to know we were naturally gifted, not just crazy. Good news about your job! You sound really effervescent today. Take good care of y'self, now! Cx
from penmaster :
ps: i meant the drinking struggle.
from penmaster :
Magus: you made me feel guilty when you compared my fat struggle with your drinking struggle. one of these is weightier than the other. but thanks. :)
from the-ordinary :
your guestbook wouldn't let me write in it. or else, this is one of those times when the entry will appear several house late or something. in any case, this is what it said: hmm. i did change some things because i wanted all of the entries to be in their own separate litle boxes. i don't know why that would've made the scroll bar go away though. what screen resolution are you using? i probably deleted something important while i was messing around with the html, because i don't really know what is important html and what isn't. hmm.
from cherryaa :
I wrote you a note in response to today's entry, but then I thought, hey, I'll put it in my diary instead. So it's there. Cx
from cherryaa :
Hullo, Mr Magus Sir, and thank you for your kind comments :) Congratulations on steering clear of the tequila! I'm sure it does get easier - I'm still looking to Clean as inspiration, but to be honest it's already easier. I've just weathered a hen weekend with no real problem. and you shunned the free bar. See, we're sober! Blimey. Who would have thought it? Your new job will be interesting - I'm nocturnal by nature, and have always preferred night shifts. The problem with that, of course, is you're right out of sync with the 'normal' world. I found the switch from nights to days more of a life shift than just a shift change! Here's wishing you pleasant mornings, and sweet dreams at night.
from cherryaa :
Your post about your parents reads as a very clear & honest expression of your feelings. I totally agree that divorce is better than a household at war: I used to pray mine would divorce! You seem to feel (along with your brother) a responsibility to keep your parents in touch with each other. At first, I thought maybe you were asking a little too much of yourself. Then I thought, no, you're a family. Families do that kind of thing: it's all about complex, but enduring, relationships. As a wise man once said, "Sometimes, I really start to suspect that all maturity is is learning how to juggle our idiosyncracies." ;) You ma & pa must be proud of you.
from cherryaa :
GET WELL SOON! Have a whisky in hot lemon .... go on, it's medicinal ;)
from cherryaa :
You leave me such nice notes, Sir, they always make me feel gushy inside! (Er, don't take that the wrong way, haha.) I am vastly admiring your work, as you know, and am quite awestruck by your persistence & determination! I don't know whether it always seems that way to you, but when/if I manage to keep the ball rolling in work, writing, home, health, life and stay funny - the way you do - I'll be very pleased (and surprised). Oh dear: mutual admiration warning! Cheers. Have a good week :)
from cherryaa :
CUT MY EGGS!
from cherryaa :
Congrat's on ur grade's magey, u r 1 very cleva studen! Gud thing ur gong bak 2 skul or u wud b a watsted talent, U go 4 it :) [Throws Grade-A British student off keyboard to offer educated adult advice] As an educated adult, I strongly advise you to get a cat, a TV, a laptop, a degree and a healthy balanced diet! Look at me - I get what I want and have debts the size of a lesser planet, but I'm still alive, healthy and watching plenty of TV. On second thoughts, don't look at me. Just take good care of yourself now, for tomorrow we will all owe money anyway. Sorry to hear about your colleague - but please try to offer support without getting paranoid (or fired)! One day soon, Magus, you will be sitting in the president's chair and then you can run a fair & humane enterprise, thus proving to all power-crazed corporate dickheads that it is indeed possible. Good luck in class. And a big welcome to your new pussy! xxx
from cherryaa :
I would use your rather attractive guestbook facility, but it won't save anything I write to it. So I shall just have to keep monopolising your notes. Thanks again for the positive vibes - and thanks for your diary! Cold & broke you may be, but you ain't got no writer's block. Your entries seem to be getting more vibrant, more perceptive and wittier by the week. Also, I think you must be wrong about a lack of depth in your work. Either you're undervaluing yourself, or you need to think your characters the way you think yourself. For a series of short diary entries, there's a fair old chiascuro of life in there! Now, give yourself a big smile and order a large takeaway. Do as you're told.
from cherryaa :
Welcome to your new home! It sounds fab - be very happy there :) xx
from cherryaa :
Good advice about the pet, btw :) I shall be resolving to get a nice, furry pussy in the near future ...
from cherryaa :
TOP resolutions, Magus, sir! Happy new year.
from biggestlie :
So, it is unlocked again.
from biggestlie :
I cannot see because my glasses got broken and I cannot afford new ones, it is a tragedy.
from cherryaa :
Oops, them codes doesn't work here. Sorry.
from cherryaa :
YAY!!!!!! My first note! Thank you, Magus. I loved The Catcher in the Rye, but I've always assumed it was beacause I myself was an anguished teenager with a poor sense of identity, to whom nothing happened. That's probably its appeal. Could it be you're just not <b>anguished</b> enough? <i>"I apologize for my seeming insanity"</i> Pur-lease! Why do you think you have so many readers? Yours dryly, caa.
from laura-jane :
I read 'The Catcher in the Rye' last summer, and was mystified. I, too, kept waiting for IT to hit me, and I was rather surprised--and perhaps a little worried--that nothing hit me. What is wrong with us..?
from cherryaa :
Thanks for the link! I feel all warm & connected ... (see, it doesn't take much). Good luck with the apartment.
from desertwitch :
AAARRRGGG typo must kill typo: "loose" not "lose" because I HATE it when other people use them consistently as interchangeable words, there, anus not retaining anymore aaaahhhhhh
from manukenkun :
i'm lonely in the middle of the night here...
from usagiisgod :
Was trying to sign your guestbook but it was not cooperating. Basically, it seems you're doing fairly well, having weathered some unpleasantries. But as they say, that which doesn't kill you... can often leave you a crippled, drooling vegetable. But if that doesn't happen, you're better off for it.
from cherryaa :
Heh. Like your style ... wish I had one! Happy sobering, 'magus. Maybe we could meet up for a fruit cocktail one day.
from beagle47 :
diary to diary thought to thought my diary sent greetings but of course i forgot. so, it hopes all is well, if all is not great i'm really not tardy but just out of date. write-on, 'magus. peace. (and i really mean that).
from jing-ryu :
Yeah, I'm working on fixing the readability... >_>
from beagle47 :
so, oddly enough, my diary whispered "what's the-magus stat-us?" who knows about these things...
from hauntingme :
I just signed someone else's guestbook and now it won't let me sign yours. So I am writing here. What I wanted to say was this: Perhaps the cat is not anti-lit; perhaps he reads by osmosis and is 'absorbing' the literature via digestion.
from desertwitch :
ARRRGGG the system swallowed up entry on your Gbook!!! Anyway THANK YOU for making me smile cuz I don't want to end up with the sour face of Frau M! And shit ya am totally surprised on how many articles I've come across which merit the time/energy to post on my site. Makes me wanna upgrade to Dland Gold but then I get lazy and figure I'll have to update more often if I do. ug... so KISSES babe and rock on!
from the-ordinary :
i just accidentally signed your guestbook twice. well, see, i wrote one much earlier and it never showed up, and for a long time it wouldn't let me sign again, so i just thought i would do it now, except now the one from before also showed up and i look like a dope. more so than usually even.
from penmaster :
I've never left you a note! :O Can I marry Pookie too? ;)
from desertwitch :
OOO -- and about SARS rearing its overblown head again in your town --- what the FUCK is UP with that?! Canada can't seem to catch a break these days, what with the one-cow-mad-cow "outbreak" AND getting bullied by Bush's dickyankers. Hope SARS Episode II is over soon.
from beagle47 :
perhaps the finest note ever left by a diary. certainly hall-of-fame, if not most-valuable. thanks to you and your diary. good words and works make us all better. peace. (and i really mean that).
from desertwitch :
"The common error of ordinary religious practice is to mistake the symbol for the reality, to look at the finger pointing the way and then to suck it for comfort rather than follow it." __Alan Watts I left the above quote on Matt/aka Fain who was so kind as to wish you forgiveness for your "unbelief." Because I'm praying that he catches a clue ; )
from clean2202 :
Hi Magus. Thanks for your always astute observations. You're always right, too. Clean
from desertwitch :
Hey babe! Thanks for dropping by, and it's my own damned fault my diary is weird, cuz I wanted to change the color and add new diaryrings (a sad addiction of mine!) and I cut off the fricking guestbook code in the process of shoving more d-rings up the main page's butt. So *sigh* gotta go back in tomorrow and get the code again from the gbook site -- but SHIT, I'm feeling funkytired now -- LOTS of time spent in front of this monitor AND watching some TV -- saw Sue again -- the sex lady! She was funny last night too, took a jibe at that evil hag Dr. Laura! Canadians do rock my friend --- oooo, wait! Isn't UN-american to like Canadians these days?! LOL!!! George Orwell is somewhere cracking up! Keep your head up baby, and know that you are loved here and up in that great country country, eh! Sorry, have been holding back the urge to say eh to a Canadian for a LOOOONG time -- night! ; )
from desertwitch :
Oh, and hope all goes well with school, can be a rollercoaster ride but it also can be a great way of stopping work from becoming the be-all and end-all of one's mental energies. Later love!
from desertwitch :
oooo and should have spellchecked myself before clicking in my last gbook entry -- that's what too much wine before pasta will do to a girl!
from desertwitch :
Just read about your conversation with strangers at the gym -- THANK YOU -- for describing so well how anxious it is that moment when you are just WAITING for them to respond!!! And feeling like you'll be shot down and made to feel like the biggest dork in the galaxy! Reminds me of my non-talk encounter at Vons -- you, my dear, were hella braver!
from blueeyes76 :
just to say your last entry rocks ! but I've not read the other ones coz I'm new, I'll be following your next entries...
from desertwitch :
Oh! And just to let you know how the protests are being covered down here -- which is basically CNN, fucking Fox News, and MSN. The night anchor for CNN just about an hour ago showed her corporate colors while she was interviewing a former NATO commander and she repeatedly asked the guy "why should the United States care" if all these countries are against "us." Unfuckingbelievable!!! I still can't decide if she was spitting out her own venom as she tried to keep her veneer of yuppie calm or if the CNN lords put her up to it!!! And even the NATO commander looked bemused, as he waited his turn, amazed that his case was being made for him, and just interjected an Uh-huh twice. This interview came right after the last video of the big protest with "1.3 million" participants in Barcelona. I just kept hoping that she would then spit out "and why should the United States care if the AMERICAN people aren't behind us"!!!! LO-fuckinL!!!!! Because I think she just barely contained herself from that insinuation or just is damned stupid and did not seem to notice that over half the interviews shown by the correspondents were from cities in the U.S.!!!! STOOPID!!! There's my report. Rock on, magic man!
from the-magus :
I'm signing my own note, just to remind myself that I'm sure clean2202 didn't mean it -that- way.
from clean2202 :
Thanks for your nice notes. I read "The Magus" a few months ago. I was a little tired of it by the end, but it had its moments. Take care, Clean
from manukenkun :
not sure if my update for your guestbook worked or not, anyway i'm thinking of you and it will all get better- hey my life did so yours will too!
from desertwitch :
UUUUUHHHH!!! I'm a typo queen!! I fucking said "good LOOK" -- so good LUCK baby!
from manukenkun :
heh! I have top secret news for you for which I need an email address. Or you could just go to crunchcandy and try figure out your password for yourself...
from desertwitch :
Dang! Wrote again on your gbook about how your comment also reminded me of the mess in Venezuela and how maybe I SHOULD have voted for Ralph Nader. But anyhow, don't you smell the CIA and multinational interests at work to depose Chavez in Venezuela? No matter his personality, the poor voted him in and want to keep him in office -- has been described even on CNN as "still massively popular" among the poor, who make up a minimum of 80% of the Venezuelan population. Now there was even a "demonstration" in front of the New York consulate for Venezuela from a bunch of very well-heeled, college-yuppie-ish Venezuelan expatriates holding up signs claiming Chavez supported Al Quaeda. This seems to me like a replay of Chile during Allende's shortlived rule.
from desertwitch :
Yay! Am in good g-book company (Navidian) -- and see -- I sometimes am not TOO lazy to extra-click into the notes section! ; )
from biggestlie :
I think you should post your novel in the diary.
from desertwitch :
Oh -- and want to tell you that since my accident a few years ago, which led to an ongoing phobia of traffic, a similar realization has grown in me about the cars and the huge toll in resources and in emotional and financial energy they take -- especially in California. Since I stopped driving, have felt that maybe it was a move for the better, and a way to keep myself out of the financial devils triangle that is car ownership. OK, I'll stop hogging your notes now! ; )
from desertwitch :
Hi Magus! Hi Pookie! Thanks for the note! And have to agree with you that the Reps and Dems are practically the same -- EXCEPT that one party lives and breathes through racists, mysoginists, and homophobes. THAT is what keeps me passionate about helping the Dems, who as corrupt as they too may be, are the biggest political machine that can be used to battle the corporate/religious machine that is the GOP. I may end up being a fool for this after all, but I have to do at least a little or I'll just stew in my angry juices. And will keep up the fight, just wish there were a better way. Bye, loves!
from desertwitch :
ug. sorry about the cussing -- am still fuming over the lazy dems who could have gotten off their butts and stopped the evil that is the GOP.
from desertwitch :
ugg. you probably already heard. a certain bigoted corporate cocksucking political party in the states took a slim majority by the skin of their backwoods constituency's pants. fuggem. will only make me work harder to bring about their demise!!!
from desertwitch :
Again, laughed and thought. Good pairing, and took me out of my little world of worries for a minute. Thanks!
from penmaster :
so you have a banner circulating now. excellent. the scandal continues...
from winehunter :
The guestbook isn't working at the moment. Anyway, you're not serious about wondering if there is a disorder for repetitive motion, are you? It's called carpel tunnel.
from penmaster :
scandalous baby ;D
from manukenkun :
The thing we have in common is alcohol, never forget it boy!
from manukenkun :
Hah! I shall leave you notes now as well as guestbook entries. Which day is your birthday? And how old will Magus be? I think I might know of a book that will be useful for you but I have to check it's name, I may be some time...
