While I'm not sure of where YOU are in NC, in the Raleigh area, there are a couple. Mine is held at the Cary "Borders" bookstore on Walnut on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month. We start socializing at 6:30 and begin readings at 7 pm. We usually meet either in the politics and social studies area or in the history area.

I had a hard time dealing with my situation too, until I got great advice from somebody telling me that it's o.k. to want to be loved, it doesn't matter how bad the timing is, if you love him, go for it! Ohhhh girl! My situation is A LOT like yours...just separated from my husband, two beautiful children and reunited with my best guy friend from school. We were two peas in a pod in highschool, but because he was two years younger then me I never looked at him more than just a friend, and was too busy w/other guys to even consider it. After a 10 year hiatus from him (which was COMPLETELEY my fault, because I was a snot) we were reunited. I realized he was the ONLY man that I've ever been true friends with and in a relationship, that's critical...to be FRIENDS with your lover. So, I guess what I'm saying is this...go for it! Don't be ashamed, or scared or afraid of rejection. If he is as good of friend as you say he is (and the non-judgemental types are a bonus), he'll do the right thing. Just let him know you're interested and tell him you'll give him time, but keep your friendship first, that should always come first. Good luck in what you do, and remember, love doesn't come knocking very often, don't run away because of the timing..if it's meant to be, it's mean to be. Hey, this is about the dream thing. I am 40 now and a children's illustrator. I used to draw all through high school, and then in art school. But I stopped drawing after I graduated at 23, and couldnt draw a damn thing... could hardly look at paper. I started cartooning cuz the comix i read in the paper weren't funny, and I didnt think of cartooning as real art just goofing off. I didnt draw or paint or sculpt for years... nearly 7 years i think. I actually started again after something traumatic in my life. But just to say, now i do it professionally, but i was totally blocked for ages 23-30. Don't worry about it. have fun. (gee, i sound like Anne Landers)...and scribble on post-it notes or somesuch you keep in your pockets at all times with a pen, so when inspiration does hit you can grab it. That's my 2 cents worth... tah!
