I've just started getting back into shape and it is hard work but it feels great to just do it. I read a book called The Rice Diet report by Judy Moscovitz (it's probably out of print but I got it in the used section of Amazon. Anyway it was a great book because it told the story of a Binging overweight woman who got down to her optimal weight and kept it there. The best thing about it was the psychology behind it. She really gets into the mind of an overweight person. I've also enjoyed reading "The Fat burning Diet" By Jay Robb Reading these books has really helped motivate me to do something about my own fitness. Best wishes to you in your quest.

Merry Happy New Year and may 2006 bring you closer to your goals :)

Just wanted to say welcome back and good luck!
from summersands :
.. keep on, keepin' on my friend. sounds like you are focused. I'm still plugging away myself with my weight loss, its hard work I know but so worth it.

Hey there. I just checked my guestbook finally. I'm over on Blogger now, at starsworth dot blogspot dot com. I should have left a link on the last entry. Yeah, I got up to six miles, but moved back to the Bay Area and sort of backslid in the shuffle. The other day I did three miles in the park, but I've only been out there about once a week, and I'm really slow now. I need new running shoes. Upper body needs worked out too, but all in good time. I read your recent entry, and it sounds to me as though you're doing good. Keep it up.

Hey, just stopping by to say I love the new layout!
from undecidedme :
wow! i was psyched to find your diary. i'm a bit of a manic exerciser, because i'm a REALLY competitive person :-) and find my outlet in sports-- ski racing, mostly, but cross-country running and soccer too. i've learned some really fun workouts from training for skiing, or at least some fun workout moves, so drop me a note if you ever want some adivce. and trust me, it is ALL about physioballs, those oversized beach balls in a lot of gyms. you can do ANYthing with them! anyway, good luck!
from kenzie12 :
Good luck with getting fit!! Im giving up soda too, but because I have a disease where my bones are brittle and all this other crap I dont understand. But I have to not have any caffeine. I mean, people say that should be easy since Im 12, but my friend just got me hooked on french vanilla coffee, and I have like one cream soda a day. Im rooting for you! Keep posting! :)
from endthelies :
Hey, I'm pulling for you! And I wanted you to know that your latest entry was part of what inspired my closet/familyroom/garage purge. I've pulled out everything I can spare and I'm going to take it to a drop point for donations to hurricane victims tomorrow, because, in the event of a major disaster, it would be nice if someone did that for me. =)

Your banner doesn't suit you at all. It seems to serious. And you're so fun to read. I think you should get a more fun-loving banner.
from hsiutime :
Hi! I clicked on your banner ad. It's great that you're actually doing something productive about your body, and keeping a record. Good luck with the soda thing especially - my friend gave up all caffiene and says she feels worlds better. Also, I noticed that your "next" and "previous" links are broken. You might want to check the html coding.
from fancycashews :
go to the running room or some specialized store. yes they will cost more however the sales people actually know what they are talking about and will fit you with a great pair.
from starlight42 :
i can relate to the stamina! the basic pilates fat burning, which is 45 mins, that has me grasping for air by the end. some times i take a break in the middle. also, for me, it's hard to find the TIME for much longer than a half hour to work out. What I do some days is get up early and exercise for 25 mins, then after work bike for a half hour. :)
from normaltoilet :
go to the stores, peruse and find the ones you like, then go buy them on ebay and save yourself a bundle :) NT
from evildilara :
Running shoes all depend on your feet. Some people swear by New Balance but my feet are sort of wide and I have a narrow heel so NB doesn't fit me well. The best shoes I've found are Adidas with the Adiprene soul. They come in all price ranges (I've seen them on sale for as cheap as $30 to as expensive as $100+). My rule of thumb; I never buy white running shoes because when I run outside in the winter they get super shitty. I always try to get grey or blue or some other color besides white. Have fun shoe shopping!
from starlight42 :
as for working out and how many calories it burns, I just read somewhere that if you do the same work out you normally do in say 30 mins, but stretch it to 1 hour, you'll burn more than double the calories. For instance, if you bike for a half hour- doing 5 miles, and change it to 5 miles in 1 hour, you'll lose more. Not just because of the length, but once your heart rate gets up high so long, you start burning at a faster pace. The point of the article was to not feel like you *have* to do XX in 30 mins, go slower and stretch it out and it will be worth it. :)

Hi there, I've been looking at and thinking about buying a pair of nike shox. I haven't tried them before but i have a friend who loves them. Just thought I'd share :) NT
from sbsneech :
hello! I am a fellow Yourself!Fitness user, and I found your diary because I was leaving a note for a friend, and saw a banner that had Maya on it! I had to click out of curiousity. I say kudos to you for trying out something new, and you are deffinitely going on my buddy list so I can keep up and see how you are doing!
from theswordsman :
Thanks for adding me to your buddies. Godspeed. John
from sinsear777 :
Hey there, Thanks for the note :) Shoes are good, but if you want something to really help your workout, I highly recommend investing in a good heart rate monitor. I got mine from Polar USA and it's made a WORLD of difference. Not only does it keep me in my target zone for max results, but it calculates calories burned by amount of effort and body weight. For me, there's a good couple of hundred calories difference between that and calculating it just by type of excercise and time. Ok, now I sound like an advertisment, but it is true. Best of luck to you and keep at it!

Do you like lemon in your water? If you're trying for more vitamin C, they make a product called True Lemon that you can add to your water, and each little packet is 25% of the USRDA for Vitamin C. (at www.truelemon.com) I love the stuff.

fitness influences, yes, I need more :)
from life-my-way :
Best fitness shoes: New Balance 990's [or 991's if they've updated recently]. They are soft and cushy and forgiving and not at all pimped out. So if that's what you're looking for, the 990's are the ticket.
from wonderbunny :
I always use Nikes. I run about 2 miles a day 5 times a week, and I don't sprint. Different running shoes are meant for different types of runnning, but crosstrainers are good for most everything. Nike in particular has a big top to bottom price range, so you can get olympic quality shoes, or you can get affordable ones. The main thing to remember with sneakers is that all shoe brands (the good ones: nike, rebok, adidas...) have a basic construction and they are very different from one another. Switching between types can be very bad for the knees, espcially in women. So once you start getting excercise in one brand, you're going to want to stick with that brand basically... forever. That's the main reason I'd say stay with one of the big names- you can get them everywhere, so no matter where or when you have to replace your shows, you'll be able to do it easily.

I really appreciate your concern, and I hope your friend can find peace within herself as well. Eating disorders are a horrible thing to have... and I have been on both sides of that. One of my closest friends is on her death bed... because of Dia-bulimia. And then I am in recovery (7 months and counting!!!). Anyways I am thankful that there are people out there who care, and I wanted to return the gesture. Take care of yourself sweetie, and good luck!!!

god, I'm in the same boat. Have you tried working out with the exercize ball? Also, I use skinny cow and sugar free junk food to fill my sugar cravings. Good luck! -jes

.. good luck with your weight loss, I started back in October 2004 at 222 lbs, now I am 169 lbs, I never thought I'd get this far without quiting .. I just finally said enough is enough and made a promise to myself .. I needed to start living my life again ... as a healthy person .. the rewards are great once you start keeping your promises to yourself.
from illuminocity :
I can relate so well to you right now. I'm an inch taller than you and somewhere around the same weight and lord, is abandoning the chocolate hard! I hope you don't mind that I've added you to my favourites.
from rancidjunkie :
ahh, i know exactly how you feel. Dieting is harder than the excersize, i feel. But man, at least you are doing it, i have to keep posted. you are awesome!!
from freaknuraw :
I just wanted to let you know how happy it makes me to see that there are people trying the real way to get healthier. I am an on and off again bulimic... and it takes every ounce of me to say no to any foods... for they scare me. So I just wanted to let you know that you have inspired me to try and do this the right way. I wish you luck, and take care hun. Sincerely, Jori
