Poohfanatic1's Journal

I'm a nearly 54 year old public school music teacher, somewhat conservative Democratwho relocated from the Dallas/Fort Worth area to the Seattle area 19 years ago. The most interesting fact about me is that for 28 years (until last spring) I was a lesbian and am now back on the other side of the fence! That was quite a journey!

I collect Fiestaware. That is the retro looking dishes with the concentric rings. I collect both antique and new Fiesta and my current favorite color is Peacock Blue. I also collect Winnie-the-Pooh stuff. You name it! He is my hero! So is Larryboy.

I like to windsurf, rockhound, read when I have a chance which is seldom, and I play in several community music groups. I have played French Horn, Euphonium, Trombone (tenor and bass), Alto (also called tenor) Horn and percussion around town. I am in one of those "complicated" relationships. No siblings. My past is my curse, and my future is my hope. Pet peeves: Bible beaters, closed minds, enabling parents, and intolerance. What I love: playing music, cuddling, tiffany lamps, mission style furniture, clean sheets, and romantic getaways.

My favorite diaries:

My favorite music:

Robbie Williams
comments: Can't figure this guy out! Does he take himself seriously? Escapeology is my fav CD, although the language is raunchy on a few tunes.
Peggy Stern
comments: My favorite jazz artist. A jazz pianist heavily influenced by classical training. Got to work with her one summer at the Bud Shank Jazz Workshop in the "ya'll come" jazz choir. She is a true New Yorker. What a great gal!
Indigo Girls
comments: Yeah, yeah - it's pretty cliche isn't it? Still the yin and yang of these two, the depth of the lyrics, and the catchiness of their tunes make them a perfect anytime listen. Got to see them live in Portland once, middle of the 3rd row.
Faith Hill
comments: I got into country music a few years back. I admire her and her life. I hope she doesn't fall off the pedestal.
Supertramp
comments: "Breakfast in America" - the best on the road CD. I'm solidily stuck in the '80's and proud of it!

My favorite movies:

Better Than Chocolate
comments: A romantic lesbian comedy that has gotten great cross-over into the straight world. It's silly, funny, all too real, and plain old cute!
Blade Runner
comments: It's easy to figure out why I could pick all my favorite movies from novellas written by SF writer Philip K. Dick. The darkness in his writing contains an emptiness that one seeks to fill with beauty - and hold a yearning for what is good.
Veggie Tales
comments: I'm a dyed in the wool Veggie Tales fan. Particularly "Silly Songs with Larry". My favorite song is probably the Hairbrush Song.
Monty Python & the Holy Grail
comments: Isn't this one on everybody's favorite movie list? Thank my Dad for introducing me to MP when it was first broadcast on PBS. Mom would mutter about that horrible "English Trash"
Flight Plan
comments: It's a shame this movie came out the same year as Brokeback Mountain and Truman...its the best movie I've seen in 10 years.

My favorite authors:

John Irving
comments: I don't like ANYTHING else written by Irving, but "A Prayer for Owen Meany" is my all time favorite book and one that EVERY SINGLE HUMAN BEING should read. "I believe in God because of Owen Meany" - the main
Robert A. Heinlein
comments: I think I have every book he has written or written about him, including a few rare copies. He was a man who yearned for total freedom for all, regardless of "whatever", but he was trapped in his own soul.
Neale Donald Walsch
comments: This is a way cool guy who has written five books that basically make God real, meaningful, and "right there" for you in a way that is so non-threatening. If you're seeking an absolutely real relationship with God, read these.
Rainer Maria Rilke
comments: His prose, poetry, and letters were like another world had opened up to me. A world I never knew existed. "Live your questions now." If I could have only one person to choose from for quotes the rest of my life, he's the guy.
Katherine Forrest
comments: My favorite lesbian novel is "Daughters of a Coral Dawn". She has written a lot of novels, and I attended a writers workshop in Dallas with her once. I'm still waiting for the sequel.

update April 6, 2020: Sorry, we just had 8+ hours downtime due to a server problem. Restoring from backups took soooo long, but everything is back and no data was lost. Ay yay yay! Anyhow, hope everyone is well with the virus stuff.
