2010-11-22 - 12:55 a.m. DRESDEN DOLLS (11) St Louis @ Pageant w/Michelle & Elicia

Dresden Dolls!!!

Went with Michelle Campbell and two of her friends: Kristen and Monica. Michelle's girlfriend Sarah dropped her off here at 12:50 and the girls should have picked us up at 1:00. We left an hour and a half late. Later, Monica admitted that she didn't think I knew The Dresden Dolls and didn't get ready in time.

I wore my tiny hat from KissKurl with the veil and curled my hair. I wore my shiny black platform boots with my black vintage coctail skirt and my purple/black striped HeavyRed corset, with my bird skull necklaces and my RockLove steampunk clockhand earrings.

When we got to St Louis we checked into the hotel and the girls drank beers and showered. I was antsy to get to the venue as soon as possible.

When we finally got there I called Brian who was eating with his family at a restaurant down the street. So the girls and I went to a Thai restaurant for dinner. My dinner was way too hot to eat and I think it was the only time I refused to pay for my meal.

From the restaurant, both Kristen and Monica walked into the Halo Bar. Michelle wanted to put her leftovers in the car. I called Brian and he met us in the alley, coming from dinner. He was wearing a hat and a long wool coat and his leftovers. He set them down and gave me a big hug. I introduced Michelle, who reached out her hand to shake and he hugged her instead.

We sat on the bus with him for about a half hour chatting before the show.

They played Pirate Jenny!!! They also played Mandy Goes To Med School and the really long drum solo intro to Half Jack. They also did Two Headed Boy, and even though I don't like Neutral Milk Hotel, I did tear up a little. I miss seeing them! I miss how much fun they are! The show ended kind of early. I think they were done before midnight.

After the show Michelle and I went to the merch room. I bought a shirt. I called Brian and he said he'd be out in a minute and I should go stand by the bus. There was a crowd gathered there. Eventually Michelle, Kristen, Monica, and Elicia came and stood with me. There were at least ten people right there. He came from the opposite direction hoping to avoid the crowd but I though the security guard would yell at me if I crossed to him so I stood and waited. I had four girls with me and he told one of the roadies to let us wait on the bus for him. I bet he signed stuff and chatted for fifteen minutes.

Kristen took pictures all through the show and then a bunch on the bus. Monica was super excited, partly because I don't think she believed me. Partly because she was drunk. Elicia was drunk too. We met two very friendly roadies, one who was soft spoken and from Portland.

When Brian joined us he sat down right next to me, as close as he could get without sitting on me! We chatted for a little while and he had to leave and come back. I think he showered and changed before he joined us again. I told him how excited I was about seeing Pirate Jenny performed for the first time. He told me I looked beautiful and commented on my hair. He asked where the photo of us kissing was taken. I think I said "Which one?" I said Columbia and he asked where that is. We talked about Einsturzende Neubauten, Black Flag, Henry Rollins, and Dead Kennedys. I lamented not ever seeing him with World Inferno/Friendship Society.

His friends were all at Pin-Up Bowl, so we said we'd go. Brian put the hood up on his hoodie and we walked out. He put his arm around me and we walked that way to the bowling alley. I told him how exciting I thought the intro to Half Jack was. We talked about Skinny Puppy. He asked if I liked Rocky Horror. I said I haven't seen it in 10 years but I bet I still know all the words.

Monica bought me a gin and tonic at the bar and Brian joined his friends for a moment to smoke and get a beer. I got drunk fast since I hadn't eaten dinner. Brian was a good sport about being in a bowling alley and not wanted to bowl. We talked about shows and craftiness and whatnot. I vaguely remember saying something about how I used to smoke. The band's curfew was 2am because they were playing Chicago the next day. We took some pictures.

Brian asked me to walk him to the door and held my hand. We walked to the front and I think he said complimentary things. I was drunk, so I'm not sure. He kissed me goodbye and I bid him a good tour. I walked back to the table and said to Michelle "I think I love that man."

I'm surprised I didn't fall down drunk.

The next day we went to the art museum and Brian texted me: Hey Lotus, it was so great to see you last night. Sooo happy you could make it to the show, i feel like you're part of the band's history at this point! Xoxoxox keep in touch and good luck with everything! BRIAN
