Interesting proposition on the intentional walks. A couple thoughts: One, Bonds is a left-handed hitter, and most/all catchers are right-handed, which means almost every pitch away from Bonds is toward a catcher's glove (left) hand. These "intentional" balls might be easy enough for a catcher, even when in his crouch, such that the practice of throwing away from Bonds would continue. Two, I like your proposal because it might give pitchers an incentive simply to hit Bonds on the first pitch, rather that to try to walk him. Not that I encourage violence, but a few fastballs aimed at Bonds' backside would not be such a bad thing. |
