I'm still here-- sending Letters From A Small Hedgehog since the summer of the Year Two. I'll be here 'til they turn the lights out. And, yes, there still is a community here-- which is a vur' good thing. Glad to have you back. |
from raven72d : |
Still out there? |
from raven72d : |
come back and post more.... |
from raven72d : |
Did you get your page fixed? |
from boyecho : |
as a matter of fact, I do! shoot an email: [email protected] and i’ll send my username. |
from raven72d : |
Good Paul Auster quote. I do have an Insta, but I never post. I use it to follow cool accounts, though. I've just never mastered the ability to take and upload photos. |
from raven72d : |
are you still there? |
from raven72d : |
Becky at ExileAndCunning--- she will be much-missed. I started reading her when she was here, back long, long ago. |
from raven72d : |
I print off and bind my entries periodically. Too much grad school. But right now there's a glitch about archiving entries...and it really does annoy me that there's no active captain on the ship. |
from raven72d : |
i read it fairly well--- i've lost a bit since my PhD research, but I can still read it. |
from raven72d : |
06. Juni 16 Come back and write! |
from raven72d : |
More German metaphysics. Yes. |
from raven72d : |
The Year Sixteen...come write again! |
from raven72d : |
And how is Spring of the Year Fifteen? |
from raven72d : |
Very true--- I'll be writing here always. This is my place to just write and think. Also to exchange notes--- always a valued thing. |
from raven72d : |
"Pripyat is where Soviet Futurism came to die..." I'll be whispering that to girls while we're kissing . |
from raven72d : |
Tell me stories of lost cities... |
from raven72d : |
...and whatever brought you to Lyon? |
from raven72d : |
I know. Everything since about 2001 is a blur--- before that, I can isolate key moments and story arcs. Afterwards--- it all just runs together. |
from raven72d : |
9. April 14--- great entry. What *was* the Year Nine like? |
from raven72d : |
Springtime in the Deepest South is always variable. This year--- a cold, wet spring so far. But I'll take that as a brief respite from summer heat. |
from raven72d : |
Springtime yet where you are? |
from raven72d : |
Very good Siri Hustvedt quote. I love her novels and essays. |
from raven72d : |
Travel more...and stay in touch more often. |
from raven72d : |
I do hope for being less impoverished...and the chance to travel. |
from raven72d : |
Tell me how things are going, and what your Year Fourteen will be like. |
from raven72d : |
I always fall for the idea of someone. It's all about ideas. Always. |
from raven72d : |
Yikes! Not my kind of guy, to put it charitably. I wish I could get to Europe again myself...though I have nothing marketable to offer anyone as an immigrant. |
from raven72d : |
Yes, what's the story on the Australian premier? And as for me...tired and overworked, but okay. |
from raven72d : |
How is September for you so far? |
from raven72d : |
I have to deal with 90+ degree weather with tropical humidity, and I'm an autumn/winter person by nature... How cold/bleak is the antipodean winter? |
from raven72d : |
Glad to hear it's going better. And do keep me posted on your travels! (I hope you'll comment at my entries, too...) |
from raven72d : |
Has the summer gotten better? |
from raven72d : |
I'll take a look at Toby Litt. Thanks! The Floorplan question was probably that--- if it did happen to be a secondary journal for you. |
from raven72d : |
Tell me more about Toby Litt...and about the Floorplan entries... |
from raven72d : |
It wasn't bad, but while some bits (especially the arc with Alec Baldwin and Ellen Page) were fun, a lot of it felt like Woody Allen was just phoning it in. He doesn't have the emotional connection to Rome that he does to either Paris or NYC. |
from raven72d : |
I'll let you know about both! |
from raven72d : |
I'll probably write about the Aixxx blog this weekend, so keep an eye out. I did subscribe to it, by the way. (Have you heard anything from the girl who writes at Delighted? I know she had health issues last year, and she hasn't posted in a while) |
from raven72d : |
I will go take a look at aixxx and see what it's like--- and keep you posted if I write about it. |
from raven72d : |
I like Floorplan, too. |
from raven72d : |
I have finished it--- I must write about it. It's one of those books where you want to yell at the author (and maybe the editor)--- good story, some excellent moments, but doesn't work at the ending and could've used a better organization and some editing. |
from raven72d : |
Hmmm... I should probably be very afraid, but--- what picture *do* you have of me? |
from raven72d : |
well, it's on its way from Amazon, and three other girls to whom I mentioned it (2 in the States, 1 in Germany) all laughed and told me that I'd love it...and asked if I'd somehow put the author up to it all...or ever had her as a student. i'm now intrigued. |
from raven72d : |
I think I'll look for "Monsieur", then--- recommendation appreciated. |
from stardumb : |
Hi, I'm sorry I haven't gotten back to you sooner. I've opened up again, I was writing somewhere else and this place just feels more right so i will be transferring that work here day by day. thanks so much for reading. glad to be back. Much Love ~star |
from raven72d : |
I totally must go to Death Valley and see the sailing stones! |
from raven72d : |
appreciated! |
from raven72d : |
Thinking out loud is good. And...sailing rocks? |
from raven72d : |
Parallel lines meet in the Land of Lost Content. |
from raven72d : |
Toby Litt... I'll have to look for his books. |
from raven72d : |
Loved the "Ghost Story" post. |
from raven72d : |
where in Europe would you go? |
from raven72d : |
Berlin sounds like an excellent idea. |
from raven72d : |
Spring so far has been rather nice. And how has yours been? Please do drop by and exchange notes --- I do appreciate them. |
from raven72d : |
thank you for quoting me. |
from raven72d : |
I spend too much time at FB myself. But keep posting here. I always enjoy your entries. |
from raven72d : |
do post again soon... |
from raven72d : |
Murakami-san is correct, as usual. |
from raven72d : |
I'm looking out at the summer rain... |
from raven72d : |
where are you these days? |
from raven72d : |
i'm always a major fan of autumn--- I love liminal seasons. |
from raven72d : |
it's autumn in the Antipodes, isn't it? |
from raven72d : |
at sunset...not so bad. and yours? |
from defaults : |
you are most welcome. |
from raven72d : |
The talk she gave in Dubai about languages! Yes! I'd read a piece on it! |
from defaults : |
he deserves more recognition than he gets. i must've listened to that one i posted in my diary over fifty times. sometimes these things just strike the perfect chord. also, i used to read you back up 'til august 2009 and then you stopped posting for ages. i had no idea that you were back. keep on posting. |
from stardumb : |
thank you. :) i've added you as a favs.. i think you're diary is interesting. |
from raven72d : |
i love the extract about DFW's writing. |
from raven72d : |
The before/after images from Sendai are terrifying. |
from raven72d : |
what has been happening? |
from raven72d : |
the highest point in this state is maybe 350 feet... so it's summer that I hate. i'm an autumn sort... |
from raven72d : |
how is late january there on your mountain? |
from raven72d : |
i'd like that very much. |
from raven72d : |
i discovered Tokyo Connection via your post. |
from raven72d : |
clouds and mist and snow: lovely. |
from raven72d : |
i love Tokyo Connection. |
from raven72d : |
that's why i write here rather than make Facebook aphorisms. |
from floorplan : |
thank you, seeing you quote that tragic piece of me really settled something. it's nice to not feel embarrassed of that, any more. xxo |

hello. ah yes--thank you? haha. i try to be honest now. which is funny. i don't feel like i always have been. i've never lied. but i did obscure.. and perhaps that is sometimes more honest. anyway. thank you.. |
from boyecho : |
i realized i probably said that before... which is probably why that entry felt so familiar.. |
from boyecho : |
one line in and i knew that was ginsberg... happy. |
from raven72d : |
glad to have you back... |
from raven72d : |
patience is never easy. |

from raven72d : |
Os? As in...Australia? |
from raven72d : |

from moodswing : |
♪♪ thanks for the thoughts.. i feel so tucked away in the corner sometimes that it surprises me when anybody notices i'm there. ;) |

hello? |
from veganfuckk : |
i know. now every time i leave the house, i find myself looking up treetops and into windows and staring deep into the faces of everyone i see, hoping for some sort of familiarity. i only have about 8 gigs worth of cds so i guess i need to join the twenty-first century and start downloading. it is definitely making life a little better. |
from veganfuckk : |
oh, my bad. it was empty. whoever it came from had erased it, and put it in its original packaging and everything. i just wish i knew who it was. |

i'm not really sure what you are talking about..skeletal lamping? i hope it has music i'll like. |

I like the idea that Foucault can make one thin. |
from raven72d : |
I'd love to try the Zarathustra in German... I need to get my German fully fluent again. I'm reading...hmmm...Huxley's "Crome Yellow" and re-reading Murakami's "Hard-Boiled Wonderland"... |
from raven72d : |
I like his "The Order of Things" and "Discipline & Punish" and the 3rd volume of the History of Sexuality... Tell me what you are reading these days. |
from raven72d : |
I used to find Foucault a charlatan, but the final volume of "History of Sexuality" changed my mind. |
from raven72d : |

from raven72d : |
I'll use girl up into early 30s... it's not about age so much as whether someone is a Grown Up. A "Woman" is like...your first-grade teacher or your mother's bridge club. "Girl" is someone who's still...adventurous, alluring, and panty-free. |

I like the alter ego diary. |
