Deli-icious.

I have an orientation today. Starting basically ASAP I will begin training as a "Deli Lead" at a statewide supermarket chain. (Clever search-engine-proof alias to follow.) I report to the Deli Manager, and whatever echelons are above him/her. So, it isn't a strictly lateral move. It will involve a pay cut. I've thought it through, though, and it should be OK.If I stayed at Fazuul, I'd be taking a voluntary demotion and pay cut, probably in January or February. The deli is starting me out at 50 cents more an hour than Fazuul's AM pay cap. So, when you factor in the money I'm saving on gas and dry cleaning, it will have been going to be a raise, of sorts. (Did you follow that?) So, OK. Let's pretend I was still working at Madison Fazuul, making the AM pay cap. I was doing (just barely) ok. Now, I have NO student loan, and the credit cards are significantly less terrifying than they were a year ago. And again, as a Delian, I'll be making a little bit more. Hooray. *** I've told Fazuul that my last day will be Dec 22nd. I've told The Deli I can start full time Dec 27. This means we actually get to spend more than 12 hours visiting Rijid's family for Christmas this year. I am smrt. *** I've never worked for such a large, ubiquitous chain before. I can think of five locations within 20 minutes of my home. I don't think that has any real relevance on anything. My personal allotment of minions (the deli dept. of one store) will be much smaller than at Fazuul. It's still strange to think about, though. *** Because I wanted to give Fazuul the month's notice, The Deli asked me to begin training at least one shift a week starting immediately. I may not get a day off for most of December. January is going to be so sweet, though. My store is 15 minutes away not 40. A standard day of eight hours, not nine. Time and a half for Sundays. I can't wait.
