And I agree with most of your awesome things list, with the caveat that the scary uber-massaging shower head I encountered in a motel in GA a few years ago that assaulted me and forced me to stand pressed against the far wall and bathe myself with a wet towel so I wouldn't be bruised was NOT awesome.

And to your entry...this all is closely related to the general positive/negative (depending on how you look at it) sexism that is still rampant in our society. We still hold our roots in gender roles from times before female rights. Currently, women are more prevalent in the workplace than ever and have nearly equal wages as men, it gets closer every year. Also, more women are in college. So...why is it still expected for men to typically approach women first and/or to offer a drink? Why is it still a man to typically do chivalrous things and buy little gifts of flowers or jewelry? I mean, just look at the Valentines ads and who they're directed to: many are men. Why is it called "a date" when he covers the check? Why does a woman get a nice big diamond ring (and expects it) and the guy is typically the one who is expected to pop the question (and to be extra classic, ask the family the soon to be fiance's hand in marriage beforehand )? The moment we have a society where women hold doors open for men as well as men should for them, both sexes can freely ask the other to marry, both get equal valued rings for engagement, both equally approach each other and offer a drink when at a bar, and when it's whoever offers to cover the bill is what constitutes "a date" or not, is when we'll be closer to equality. Right now, women are at a sort of best of both worlds when it comes to rights on paper and the gender bending that men still do from the classic days. Those women who long for this classic romantic life (even those who are realistic and realize that life's not a book, but still want a bit of that classic romanticism) and those men who are trying to fill that male role in the classic romantic life are prolonging and repeating this trend set a half century ago. People need to realize the so-called good love their grandparents had that some wish for came from a time when men had a certain controlling role and many women understood and accepted it, to the point of arguing and standing up against women who rejected it. Eventually, society and civil rights leaned in the favor of those who rejected resulting in female sovereignty. That classic romanticism needs to be an image likened to the horrible life in Orwell's 1984, and forgotten because it's over. It needs to be killed with a silver bullet, because now, women thankfully have rights and perpetuating this want is hurting us all...except for gays and lesbians, despite their hardships they have it a bit different and sometimes easier in comparison to this straight defined structure of gender roles. To your comment about women objectifying themselves. In a way, it's the same way they did years ago, except now it's more of their own doing and labeled under their own independent and individual empowerment, and therefore, deemed ok by themselves. I admit it's a bit sad.

But here is what I have to say, though I feel I have much more to complain about: roaring fires, snow angels, ice skating, huddling like penguins, scarves, snow to spin around in, no school (when the administration is nice), igloos, catching up on favorite shows and reading, bumming around clothes and not looking weird, no bugs, snowball fights, hobo gloves/mittens, and sledding (on trays!)! Do not give up hope, warm-blooded one. After all, there are still 6 more weeks of winter for you, while I have about 3 more months. <3
