I'm currently (terminally?) single, and recently hit the dreaded half-century mark. I generally tend to date younger women, and... Oh, wait, this isn't that kind of site. Let's just say that whatever I really want you to know will eventually show up in my blogs... if you're incredibly freakin' patient, that is.
My blogs will be, simply, "One Man'Z OpinionZ." Just a forum unless and until I ever get motivated enough to develop and launch my long-awaited (by me, anyway) websites!
My favorite diaries: |
My favorite music: |
The Doors |
comments: Maybe Jim Morrison was a tad pretentious at times, but the man was a poet in the 1960s, fer cryin' out loud! He was entitled, ya know? |
The Beatles |
comments: Actually, I prefer them during their earlier years, pre-"Sgt. Pepper." And nothing against John Lennon, but I miss George Harrison a lot more. |
Redd Kross |
comments: I hate the term "retro," but it certainly does help to define their sound, if you insist on labels. |
Roy Orbison |
comments: He really should have recorded the song "My Way," because that's certainly how he sang his own material. |
Lesley Gore |
comments: I have a fondness for her early Mercury years. She's also the reason that, roughly 40 years after my older sister went through her Lesley Gore phase, I still have a weakness for women with green eyes. |
My favorite movies: |
The Philadelphia Story |
comments: Great combination of classiness & comedy. |
Casablanca |
comments: All of the interesting characters in this film -- and there are too many to count -- are incredibly sleazy! |
Midnight Run |
comments: DeNiro's "two words for you..." line? Crude but clever. |
Ed Wood |
comments: A terrific film, if you ignore the historical inaccuracies. But why does Johnny Depp read all his lines like Jon Lovitz?!?! |
It's a Wonderful Life |
comments: I know, it's one of my favorites, and probably on almost everyone else's list, too, but it really IS an excellent little flick! |
My favorite authors: |
Jack Kerouac |
comments: To me, he's a lot more entertaining than many of his contemporaries. |
Harlan Ellison |
comments: Please don't make the mistake of labelling Ellison as a "science fiction writer." That's just one of the genres in which he operates. |
Damon Runyon |
comments: I "blame" people like him for the fact that sleazy people, thieves and scammers have such a positive image. Not that that's necessarily a bad thing, as long as one keeps it on a strictly literary footing... |
Mark Evanier |
comments: This guy has met, knows, or knew almost everybody in show business and in the field of comic books, it seems! Check out www.povonline.com for a pop culture feast, or even better, www.newsfromme.com for his frequent & entertaining weblogs. |
Stephen King |
comments: Even when he's being predictable -- Hell, even when he himself gives away upcoming plot elements -- his stuff is told so entertainingly that it keeps me reading. |
