future self

I'm someone who wants to change the world. First I need to get a grip on myself and figure things out, and this diary is my outlet and my guide.

My favorite diaries:

carrie688 profile - diary
comments: A dear friend I don't know nearly well enough yet
saara687 profile - diary
comments: Hippie, goddess, intellectual and artist. A best best friend.
nautious profile - diary
comments: Poet, friend, artist. I like her because she's not afraid of who she is and also because she takes great pictures.
unclebob profile - diary
comments: One of the originals that got me hooked. Haven't been reading lately.

My favorite music:

The Gathering
comments: "Great Ocean Road", "Morphia's Waltz".. this band is where I go to get away
Blind Melon
comments: I rediscovered these guys on my big road trip away from my past. Just what I needed. At one time, I had the tape "Blind Melon" in the tape player of my car for months on end.. it just started every time I started my car. "Change"...
System of a Down
comments: Haven't been listening to them as much lately, but I will again. They amaze me every time with their passion.
Alirio Diaz
comments: He plays spanish guitar style and is one of the best guitarists this century has seen. I aspire to play "Remembranza" as well as him, which means I'll need to keep playing every day for the rest of my life ;)
Bizet
comments: I fell in love with an instrumental version of "Carmen" when I was a teen and now realize it's because he presents so many cool melodies in such a short space of time. One of my favourites in the "classical" space :)

My favorite movies:

Microcosmos
comments: the real-life version of "A Bug's Life". I'll never see it enough times.
Requiem for a Dream
comments: Great acting with inspired cinematography... amazing. Also in this vein is Trainspotting.. not enough room in these sections...
Star Wars
comments: Episode IV I mean..a classic.. what can I say. I admire great art. Lord of the Rings and the Matrix go in this category too
Remains of the Day
comments: Anthony Hopkins was great in this.
True Lies
comments: Jamie Lee Curtis.. that scene where she is in the interrogation room.. deserves special mention. Plus I was a huge Schwartzenegger fan for a while

My favorite authors:

Too many...
comments: I go to the library and come home with a stack of 11 books precariously piled on each other, each of which I read in the coming weeks before they are due. Do I remember the authors? no..
Sci Fi:
comments: Greg Bear, Orson Scott Card, Larry Niven, Isaac Asimov ( :o) I read "A choice of catastrophes when I was 9.. loved it"), Robert Forward
Past:
comments: I used to read anything by Piers Anthony (Split Infinity), Steven King (Through the eyes of the Dragon), but grew out of them
Unexpected:
comments: Jane Austen, Emily Dickinson, Margaret Atwood, Ursula Leguin
Liked lately:
comments: Jean Auel, Sean McMullen, David Masiel

update April 6, 2020: Sorry, we just had 8+ hours downtime due to a server problem. Restoring from backups took soooo long, but everything is back and no data was lost. Ay yay yay! Anyhow, hope everyone is well with the virus stuff.
