Here is a list of joleen's favourite diary entries by other members:
A New Analogy, Involving Camels This Time by joleen comment:   I love my camel analogy. What can I say? Sometimes I just really dig my own writing. Neck by manchmal comment:   "My neck is suported by a semi-frozen bag of brussles sprouts, which are starting to stink as they thaw. Rat bastad cock and balls." Need I say more? the cold cold universe by tealeaf5 comment:   Just another example of how well she is capable of writing. "He is laughing about games his father plays with him and treating Schwanzie like a superstar (waving his arms frantically and screaming like a teenage girl at a Beatles concert - behaviors which perplex and alarm Schwanzie, mostly) and looking at me from across the room as if I were the most important person of all time who had ever lived." Olaf, Glad and Big by manchmal comment:   In which we learn that Emily has acquired a new hound: "This isn't a sit still and chill out sort of a dog, which is probably what I should have gotten. He's constantly panting, and throwing himself at me, and kissing, and rolling and (yick) farting. He's like Leopold Bloom. He's a dog's dog." 1 Circus Street, Apt. 2, Twilight, USA by psst-tsismis comment:   "Upstairs, the couple fights and things are thrown and their cat Leo sits by the door and pushes his paws out for help." I love the way she writes, LOVE. A Little Like Winesberg, Ohio by psst-tsismis comment:   "I'd like a job like that old man, just sitting by a register and organizing books, or at the art theatre popping popcorn and drinking a flask on the sly and changing the letters on the marquee - something totally like being a bird on a branch - just chilling and watching people go by without much thought or responsibility. But I think those cool jobs are all taken." View From A Bubble by sixweasels comment:   "And it was all so normal and there was nothing really wrong. And I wonder if the moment Stacey went was when I was staring at those wiggling brows, or traipsing through those passageways like a fascinated kid on a secret adventure." - This entry is so beautiful. I wish we all could be graced with a protective bubble. you should do that, baby by omorfia comment:   Love the masturbation tales. Love. This one made me tingly. the cable man saga: part deux by psst-tsismis comment:   "why would anyone invent a drug for obsessive compulsive disorder? it's a wonderful thang. embrace that shit! there wouldn't be writers, nor scientists, nor painters, nor architects, nor just about any genius without OBSESSION! call it a disorder, i call it a godsend. it perpetuates the progress and evolution of society. i'm getting all ayn rand up in here!!!" Not my Kwan Yin by greytanit comment:   I just loved this 'incomplete character sketch'. "She wears linen shifts and khaki pants as a priest wears vestments and she drives barefooted and wears shoes indoors." Six Flags by joleen comment:   "Pain. I was grabbing them, "My breasts!", then holding my neck straight, "My neck!", then "My breasts! My neck! OwWWWWWWW!!!!", until we were braked quite suddenly near the end of the ride. More whiplash." But we had fun that day, overall. I Dabble in Profundity by joleen comment:   I know I'm supposed to be adding other people's entries here, but I like this one of mine, mostly because it's convoluted as hell, but I know exactly what happened that inspired me to write it. "When is there such a desire to write it all out, to stop right where one is, grab a pen, rush to a computer, an intense desire to chronicle it, even as it is happening?" first entry after atticus by bathsheba comment:   Because she sat and wrote it all down. "...I cry because I worry that Atticus will not love me, because my body hurts, because I am just now realizing I was in the hospital and nothing went according to plan, because I love him so much..." I rant. I rant. I'm probably wrong. by darrylzer0 comment:   Darryl says everything I wish I could say, and much better than I could say it. So read this. On the Journaler's Questions by joleen comment:   Yes, I'm adding another of my own entries. This one addresses some of my feelings of 'online journaling', after a fellow journaler questioned it all. "The past is for dark nights, late at night on dark nights, new moon nights, for nights with so much dreaming no rest is felt. For nights when no sleep comes. When we lie awake looking at ceilings, or out windows, trying to see the light." boy meets girl by perceptions comment:   "because when you first tell somebody you love them, there's always a chance they'll push you to the ground and kick you in the stomach." Bobby's in love!!! A Spontaneous Surge of Affection by joleen comment:   I know I wrote it, so what? It's good. If I do say so myself, and I do say so, and I know exactly what it means, so it means more to me than to you, but still, I think it's pretty good. weiner dog is unstoppable by partyjesus comment:   "This weiner dog in this wheelchair was barking at this other dog and pulling on his leash like he wanted to go over there and kick that other dog's ass. It was the most beautiful thing I've seen in weeks. I think I cried on the inside." Need I say more? both world trade centers have collapsed by perceptions comment:   I loved this entry then, I love it now. It's so innocent, such a real reaction to 9/11/01. wet dog by rainstripe comment:   I love Rainstripe's compassion, and her stories of Cousin Dog, the dog she inherited upon her cousin's passing. "Maybe my cousin dressed him in his rainbow striped sweater, or his merlot cable. She knitted both of them and I have them on my shelf. They smell like his mommy - like cigarette smoke and incense." like an angel slapping you in the face, like an angel slapping you in the face by central-red comment:   "i am making him a peepee badge and a monocle, and a wreath of peepee berry leaves and high hip boots for each of his peepee pawed little legs, and he will lead his pee pee army into the sunset, or i will sail him off the roof of my apt building to splat on the concrete below..." do not rely on february unless your cat has had a kitten by central-red comment:   Because she is just so damned good. Why can't I write as well? She amazes me. you really like her fabric softener by perceptions comment:   This one is really good, but then they all are. Bobby, if I were younger, and if I could appeal to you at all....I'd try. "curious tongue lightly roams over her underwear she lets out a gasp" Preachy by brentdix comment:   This entry has suspense, gore, intrigue, sexy atmosphere, alcohol and drugs! What more could you want??!!! Almost forgot food: "Tons of attractive Women, and a Huge Sushi setup with cheese and fruit, plus some really weird little tid bits; stuff cherry tomates pecans sandwiched with some cream chesse schmutze." Dreaming of Newport by wantcarvel comment:   I like the imagery in this entry (and the actual image as well!): "The house was built sometime in the 1800s and the original hardwood floor in this room had warped so drastically that it curled up at one end of the room like a wave on the ocean." I'm scared out of my mind. by byfirstlight comment:   Candace is telling it like it is, and I love that about her! "I want army-sarge boobs. The ones that can look pain in the eye and laugh it away." overalls by chanter comment:   I saw this listed on Omorfia's favourite list and I can see why!! Holy Moly! "when the hot peach taste of her".... Back As Usual by jimmyusual comment:   I like the stuff Jimmy wrote about his father: "He keeps a loaded shotgun on the couch under the pillows. The couch where we sat down. "Is the safety on?" my sister wanted to know. "No. I keep the safety off so I can get to it and shoot it right quick when I need it." i'm bored i'm bored i'm bored by perceptions comment:   Bobby's brilliant. Period. "i'm intelligent enough, healthy enough and capable enough to become a friday-praising, monday-dreading, weekend-worshipping 9-to-5 damn-this-rush-hour citizen, spending paychecks on a place to sleep and a way to get to work, again." My overworked subconscious, and a cockroach by joleen comment:   Okay, this one's mine, I just found it looking to see what I wrote one year ago today, so this is it, what I wrote: "Usually Gladys makes it easy, disables them before I get to them, tears off a leg or two, or three, quite by accident too, but they have a hard time moving around once their legs are gone." who sold the by central-red comment:   So many of her entries have blown me away, but this one was really good. Re: eyeglasses, "the frames have legs, thrown akimbo like the legs of someone fallen from a very tall building." Beautiful... fiction friction by central-red comment:   This is the one that made me think of Edward Gorey, not to put his drawings on my diary, but yeah. Jessica doesn't just write, she bobs and weaves, she spins and jibes. She's poetry. Am I bored or what? by aimee218 comment:   Masturbating at work? "The thought of quietly shuddering my way through a public orgasm in the midst of my unsuspecting coworkers is quite arousing!" Indeed. don't look at me by molu4 comment:   I love her intensity here, her confusion, her desire for everything at once. "Even in the moment of happiness, I am nostalgic for happiness." chemistry and war by my-sunday comment:   Eric's writing is beautifully descriptive. "like some wounded animal that doesn't know enough to hold still so you can help it." happy by bfee comment:   I love "Trouble"'s little slice of Manhattan life: "It's good, almost meditative, feeling the breeze on my face in the darkened kitchen, smoking a cigarette and watching all the life, in miniature, below me. "
